  I have a DC5100SFF that I bought refurbished last year, and it came not with all drives. It comes with windows XP pro and has the CoA sticker with the activation code.  It also has "HP" written on it.

  I thought to wipe the hard drive and reinstall XP Pro in the near future.  I have an an OEM Windows XP Pro disc, but it is not specific to HP. The CoA sticker has been removed from the new drive (and the package is not open), but there is nothing on the packaging to indicate what OEM brand (its likely it was another popular provider).

  My question is, if I install XP from this disc, he on my machine can use the number on the certificate of authenticity to activate it, or do I need to use a specific disc HP XP Pro?

  David is correct. You don't have the product key if you use recovery discs.

  However, I believe that you can still get the recovery disc for your Business from HP desktop PC.

  Just dial 1-800-334-5144 and inform the representative of customer services that you need a set of quick restore CD.

  I just wanted to ask I have a laptop Toshiba Satellite L350-170 and the sticker on the underside that CoA is all gone and cannot see all numbers or anything about it either and now today have noticed the band interleaved the vista COA silver strip comes out is the certificate of authenticity.

  Not my broof I own a legal copy of windows vista. Is there anywhere online I can order a new COA I could asell remove it as looks a right mess is easy to remove or he will leave a clue sticky nast and should never, I sell the laptop it will be always legal with no sticker on.

  First of all, make sure you have Windows Installer installed:

  1. right click on an empty area of the taskbar, and select Task Manager.

  This looks like an application custom HP who keeps trying to install it, but never finished, so he keeps trying every time you start.  It could have bad install due to your security software or settings, or the installation file could be corrupted.  You can try to understand why it is not install and help to complete the installation, or you can just stop it trying to install.

  To start the configuration system (msconfig) utility:
  Click Start and type msconfig in the box start the search.
  In the section programs, click Msconfig.exe.
  On the Startup tab, you will find the application that keeps trying to start and uncheck the box next to it.  It comes out the startup so it will run each time Windows starts.
