Windows is not booting - recent hardware change

Hi guys,.

I have an imac 21.5 2011 mid running el capitan (10.11.6)

In this imac, I have a bootcamp partition (windows 7) that used to work fine until I tried to resize the partition.
To resize, I used the Mac os disk utility to free up the space in the osx partition and used minitool partition Wizard on the side windows 7 back this free size.

Therefore, seems to be bcd windows was broken and I can't start windows more.

I tried:

I saved the bootcamp partition (copy of files and also do a dump of R/W dmg from it)

What can I do now?
I can't use windows recovery options that I had set on pc because it does not start on the key.

Could you help her?

Thank you very much.

You need a W7 DVD to boot from and repair Windows. For the record, terminal of OSX, please after the release of

diskutil list

Cs diskutil list

sudo TPG - vv - r see the/dev/disk0

sudo fdisk/dev/disk0

Orders 'sudo' will ask for your password.

Recently, I have reactivated my antivirus norton on my netbook. He told me that I needed to restart, when I went to shut down my computer, it says that there are 45 updates as necessary to update and do not turn off the computer, because after the updates, it turns off automatically, he did through the first 40 of 45 in about an hour and I finally had to go to the bed woke up he said 40 of the 45 updated installation... then my computer is dead. When I went to turn it on I got the black screen that says: cannot start Windows and a recent hardware or software change might have caused this, and it gives all the boot options. ... safe mode safe mode with network etc. I tried to start windows with all the options. It goes to the windows start page and then click on return to the failure to open the page. What should I do?

    Hello littlal

If Windows does not start even in Safe Mode you will need an XP installation CD for this problem.  Borrow one if necessary to run this fix

    Then

Configure your PC to boot from the CD if it is not already configured in this way. You may need to enter the BIOS to configure the PC to boot from the CD.

    Set the boot order of

    floppy (if present)

    CD/DVD-ROM

    Hard drive

    RECORDING and EXIT

Start your PC with the XP installation CD in the drive. When you see the prompt «Press any key to boot from CD...» ", do and start the process to boot on CD.

When the Recovery Console option is available (press R to start the Recovery Console), do it. You may be asked to what Windows installation to enter, what kind of cases the number of the Windows installation you want to work (usually 1).

When you are prompted, enter the password for the Windows installation. If you have not set up a password just press ENTER

    At the command prompt, type

    Bootcfg /Rebuild

    Come in

The exact wording depends on your configuration, but after a few moments, you will see a prompt that displays something like:

    Total identified Windows installs: 1
    [1] C:\Windows
Add Installation to begin the list?

Assuming that the information see you is correct, enter

    THERE

Bootcfg will start the process of reconstruction of the startup list to include the specified Windows installation

After a while, you will be asked to "Enter load identifier".

Is the name of the operating system that will appear in the start menus.

    Type

    Microsoft Windows XP Professional

    or

    Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition

    Come in

Then you will be asked to "Enter OS Load Options."

    For normal installations, enter

    / Fastdetect

    Come in

    Type

    Output

to exit the Recovery Console and restart the PC

  • Pavilion x 2: Windows product key Validation after hardware change (new SSD)

I have a Pavilion laptop x 2 with a 64 GB SSD.  It came with Windows 8.1 but he now works Windows 10 - of course.  I decided to upgrade the 256 GB SSD.  I bought the appropriate module (a Sandisk).  I recently contacted Windows support to inquire about the procedure to validate the OS once I did the material exchange.  I wasn't sure how it would work since my x 2 Pavilion has incorporated into BIOS product key.  Microsoft told me that because I was going to do a hardware change I would need a new product key (in other words my laptop current product key would be 'blocked').  I was able to recover the product key of my Pavilion x 2 (OEM and installed keys - what is the difference?).

Does anyone have experience in this field?  Once I have replace the SSD and perform a clean install Windows 10, will be the key to product embedded BIOS validate operating system or it will reject?  Since I'm NOT buying a HP SSD (with preloaded operating system) and that my x 2 Pavilion is now long out of warranty?  I really have to pay over a hundred dollars for a new Windows operating system license?

Thanks in advance for any advice/help.

    Francis

Parameters indicate that I have a digital right so with a bit of luck when I change the SSD and install Windows 10, the machine must validate without a qualm.  I tried to see if I could link my Validation of my Microsoft account but I did not have this option on my settings (although in the past when I re-install Windows 10, link validation of my Microsoft account operating system so I guess it works.)  Also, I guess I have the anniversary edition from my machine updated automatically.

If all else fails, I'll see how it goes after the SSD upgrade and if I have to deal with Microsoft.  I also agree with you that change the SSD (essentially the ' drive') is NOT a significant change in equipment and shall not impose a new product key, but then, nothing surprises me more.

Your tips were helpful and I thank you.

  • Windows 8 - not able to access 'Change PC settings'; Unable to create a user profile. Store/Start menu does not work.

    Hello

Recently, I'm stuck with these issues:

    1. not able to access 'Change PC settings' - when I click on it nothing happens.

2 start menu/Store does not work - I am using the profile of the user admin Start Menu is a blank blue screen with just the user name appears at the top right. Store is completely scratched too.

While the guest user has all the tiles in Start menu/store.

    3. cannot create a user profile - I wanted to try to create a new user profile and check if the store is working properly. When I click on 'Add a new user in the laptop settings' nothing happens.

I tried the system restore, but it does not solve all of the above. Is there any solution to these problems without having to reinstall Win 8? I don't have the installation discs.

    TIA!

You can use the restore or refresh options without going in the settings of the PC.  Read the instructions carefully, it says:

If you can't identify, or use laptop settings app, you can access these rather safe mode options. On the login screen, click on the power icon, and then hold down the SHIFT key on the keyboard while you click on restart. Now keep update until the next screen appears.

    Hi nicolefraley,

We recommend you to perform the Startup Repair and check the result. You can also try the following:
    a. access prompt command in the Windows recovery environment (WinRE). (See my previous post to learn how to access WinRE).
    b. type the following command and press ENTER.
    Bootrec /FixMbr
    Bootrec /RebuildBcd
    c. restart the computer and check the result.

  • I resized the Partition Mac to make more space for BootCamp and now Windows will not boot

On a collague MacBook Air running 10.11.4, we used disk utility to reduce the Mac Partition so that we could then use a Windows tool to extend the BootCamp partition. However, upon restart, we got a BACK screen with the error that Windows cannot start because it cannot find the boot device.

    Help, please?

This is not a mechanism supported by Apple to change the size of the Windows partition. Apple supports the remove/reinstall only.

We try to remedy. Please after the release of the following OSX Terminal commands.

    diskutil list

    Cs diskutil list

    sudo TPG - vv - r see the/dev/disk0

    sudo fdisk/dev/disk0

What is the model/year of the MBA? Please, do not post the serial number of your Mac. Orders 'sudo' will ask for your password.

  • Tried to increase the bootcamp partition and now Windows will not boot

    I've got Yosemite.
I wanted to increase the size of my bootcamp windows partition, so I searched for a way online, and I found this video:

    https://www.YouTube.com/watch?v=zhkdOLXT6Eg

I followed all the steps in the video, but after you have started and to complete the process of the Minitool partition Wizard I got this screen:

This is what looks like my disk utility:

    https://i.gyazo.com/ee9967fc7ac9a2d1ad9afc5cde2f3529.PNG

It seems that free space is always there

Is there a way to fix this?

MiniTool is not recommended because it causes problems and can lead to data loss.

OS X Terminal please after the release of the following OS X Terminal commands. Enter your password when you are prompted by the command 'sudo '.

    diskutil list

    Cs diskutil list

    sudo TPG - vv - r see the/dev/disk0

    sudo fdisk/dev/disk0

Do not change the partitioning information any more, otherwise, you will lose your Windows data permanently.

  • Windows does not allow me to change user

I created a new user on my pc at the recommendation of Apple Support - to solve a problem of synchronization between my ipod and iTunes. They suggested registration as a new user, synchronization of the ipod in this way, and c. I have followed the instructions, created a new user - but discovered that windows would allow me to return to the administrator, my default login information. Whenever I am trying to connect, there is only one icon to click - the new user - administrator icon is. Would appreciate your help - thanks!

The original administrator account was not intended to be used for the operation that day and, therefore, it will be hidden once the first user is added.  It's normal.  Impatient, you have a few options...

    (1) you can continue to log on as an administrator.  When the logon screen shows up (with only a single user), you can press Ctrl-Alt-Del twice.  This will bring up a classic logon window where you can enter the administrator user name and password manually.
    (2) you can create another user (profile) with administrator privileges if you wish and migrate your files from the hidden in this new user administrator account.  To do this, the fast is to pretend that your [invisible] Administrator profile is damaged and then follow the instructions in the following article:
"How to recover damaged Windows XP user profile"
When finished, it will show you two users to the login screen.

  • router fell, only mouse click, now Windows will not boot up

I have Vista, and I used my computer with wireless mouse, no problem.  Then my cat hit the small router computer and the speaker behind the counter.  No problem for a while.  Then my mouse has stopped working.  Changing the batteries, no difference. I tried to get to the Task Manager, but not the ability to click, just had to turn off the computer by the button.  When I again started computer, got to the point where I normally press F1 (arrived a few weeks, perhaps in connection with USB ports break?), nothing happened.  I tried hitting F2 and F12, nothing happened.  I turned off computer again one time and return, and everything that happens now is the screen that says: "Dell", dell.com, and has key F2 and F12 options.  When I press on them, nothing happens.  My husband got the router (and speaker), makes sure everything is connected (it was already) and I tried to re-synchronization of the router.  No light is on the router, don't know if it is or not.  Help! (I can not live without my computer!).  Thank you.

    Hello Trevor,

    Please provide the necessary details.

From the description, I see that the problem is specific to games that are downloaded from Steam. Adding weight to this statement, I noticed that you are able to play games without any problem. I suggest you contact the community Steam Support to improve assistance in this regard.
