Windows Media Player 12 is no longer play or rip CDs.

Yesterday, he received some kind of update when I tried to use a digital copy of DVD (WB legitimate, nothing fishy) and the program said I needed to update WMP. That everything worked well. Now, the next day I want newly purchased rip CD, and it gets an error not described on each track, when I try to rip or play. A part of this update must be the culprit, but I do not know how to find what it was, or what the current problem.

Suggestions?

Hello

Thanks for posting this question in the Microsoft Community.

1. what security software is installed?

2 is the issue limited to Windows Media Player?

3. What is the accurate and complete error you get?

Ripping is the process of copying songs from an audio CD to your computer. During the ripping process, the Player compresses each song and stores it on your hard disk as a Windows Media Audio (WMA), WAV or MP3 file. After that, you can synchronize the files to a portable music player, burn the files to a CD, add files to playlist, or simply to read the files without having to find and insert the CD.

We can refer to the response to K Fahimulla of this thread and check if that helps.

  • Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file. Windows Media Player C00D11B1

I get this error when I try to play a file I've downloaded BBC iplayer. What is the solution?

My sound driver and the device is installed and running as I am able to listen to music on my laptop. He used to work until I upgraded to Windows 7. and since I have updated it did not work. Windows Media Player works on other video files

Please try the following steps: -.

    1. use Windows Update, or access the sound device manufacturer's Web site to see if an updated driver is available.

    2. use Device Manager to check the status of your audio device.

    a. click Start, right-click computerand then click Manage.

    (b) in the left pane, click Device Manager.

    c. in the pane, expand sound, video and game controllersand then look for the name of your audio device.

    d. do one of the following:

    3. If your audio device is listed, but the icon has a red 'X', the device has been disabled.          To activate the device, right-click the icon, and then click Activate.

    4. If your audio device is not listed in the right pane, expand other devices. If the Multimedia Audio Controller appears in the list, right-click on the icon and then click Update driver software. Follow the on-screen instructions to find and install the driver software.

    5. If you are not able to find and install the correct driver software, go to the Web site of your computer or the manufacturer of your sound device manufacturer for assistance.

    6. If you do not have a sound device installed on your computer, install an audio device and then try to play the file again. For more information, go to the Web site your manufacturer of the computer or the manufacturer of your audio device.

    7. If you try to play a file on the Internet, try again later. The server may be temporarily unavailable or there could be a network problem.

    8. If you try to play an MP3 file that contains compressed ID3 headers, make a copy of the file and then use an ID3 tag non - editing program Microsoft to remove or reset the file's ID3 headers.

The ID3 header is a part of the file that stores the album information of the song (for example, the song name, artist name, album name and kind). This information is sometimes called tag. After you remove the headers ID3, Windows Media Player should be able to play MP3 files.

    1. who is the operating system installed on the computer?

2 - is confined to a specific DVD problem?

To resolve this problem, you can try to install the video codec and check if the problem persists.

A codec is a software to compress or decompress a digital media file, such as a song or a video. Windows Media Player and other programs use codecs to play and create digital media files.

A codec can consist of two components: an encoder and a decoder. The encoder performs the compression function (coding) and the decoder performs the decompression function (decoding). Some codecs include both components and some codecs only one of them.

  • Windows Media Player 11 will not files play.wmv

I am running XP SP3, updated with all the current patches. Current AE 8.0.6. Just upgraded to WMP 11 from WMP 9 and now it won't play my .wmv old movie files. Instead, he plays them in something called "ActiveMovie window', as I understand is part of the application of IE now. I tried the "Apply media information changes" button in the menu TOOLS in WMP 11 without effect. WMP 11 is called upon to play .wmv files (Types of files are by default: select all). And in OPTIONS for FILES, TYPES OF files, the .wmv extension is set to open and play with Windows Media Player, not IE or any other program (e.i. QuickTime).

WMP 11 play .mpeg as usual files.

Can find little information about the ActiveMovie window, except that it is now an integral part of the IE. What happens here?

In WMP on your profile, go to Tools - Options- Performance (press Ctrl + M, if you don't see the Tools menu) and click on restore by default . Who help me? Tim Baets

  • Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file.

I've had this laptop for a decent amount of years, and for a while, the music player was working fine. Sometimes this message would jump to the top, and then others it would not. Until a few weeks ago, he never seemed to go away and work again. Now, I do everything I can to remedy this. But it doesn't seem to work. I need for this weekend, really bad. • Windows Media Player for Vista, does not play my avi files and says he has a codec error?

Came across this problem trying to put an AVI in powerpoint presentation for the school. I don't know how this happened or how to fix the error. The error indicates that windows media player is not the right codec to play the video. However, when I sent it myself and opend it upwards on another computer, which doesn't have powerpoint, it plays very well.

I did some research as to what a codec for windows media player, that's what code and decodes the video compression. However, when I tried to download the appropriate codec file, there is nothing. Not even useful workaround solutions.

In addition, went and downloaded quicktime and it could not read the video either.

Any help or ideas would be greatly apreciated. Thank you!

    Hi DaisyReaper,

Are you able to play .avi files?

You can use your favorite search engine to download and install the latest codec for Windows Media Player. Subsequently, check if you are able to read .avi files.
