  • Error in Windows Media Player, Windows Media Player is not installed correctly and must be reinstalled. You want to install the Player from the Microsoft Website

I don't know how or why it happened, but one day to another, WMP won't open. I tried to open an MP3 file, and he says that WMP has not been correctly configured "Windows Media Player is not installed correctly and must be reinstalled. Do you want to install the player from the Microsoft Website? ».

I assumed that since I had to make some updates yesterday, that he was at fault, it had installed an update/new version of WMP and it was either buggy or doesn't work do not, so I went to the Windows updates, but no recent updates on the list had a remote connection with Windows Media Player.

So, I accept the first proposal of the error message, and I'm headed to the Windows Media Player download page on the Microsoft Website. However, the version I should install (which was the one I already had) has Windows Media Player 12 for Windows 7. But this option is locked for me, and as I tried to install it, it says it is not compatible with my system. Not to mention, it's a whole package and not just the WMP installation.

I tried everything and nothing seems to work. It won't even let me uninstall WMP because it won't let me open.

My OS is Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. And the error messages that I get to try to launch any WMP feature (the tool, the installation program, no matter what), opens an error window stating that "there is a more recent version of Windows Media (12.0.7601.18150) player already installed on your computer. It is not possible to use and more old (12.0.7601.17514) installation package to install files or repair your current version of the reader. »

Please, I ask for any intervention in this case.

This arises from time to time, but I don't think that there is a difficulty of 100%.

You can try (in no particular order)

    1. uninstall, reboot, reinstall WMP- http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/26107/how-to-reinstall-windows-media-player-in-windows-7-to-solve-problems/ if that doesn't help, try a SFC/scannow check - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833
    2. There is this diagnostic tool - http://support2.microsoft.com/mats/windows_media_player_diagnostic/ that can help (from http://support2.microsoft.com/fixit/en-us?wa=wsignin1.0 )
    3. You could try a system restore to a date before the problem occurred to see if that helps - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/system-restore-faq#1TC=windows-7 and see if it gets a WMP work back
    4. Last resort, a repair install - http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html
    5. Or just simply forget about WMP and try another party 3rd multimedia player that you can install and uninstall at will, as free VLC - http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

But it may be worth waiting a while to see if someone else has a better solution.

I am running Windows XP Media Center Edition and Windows Media Center gives me an error that reads "Windows Media Center is not installed correctly and must be reinstalled." When I try to install Windows Media Player from the Microsoft website I gives me an error saying I need to download "Update cumulative 2 for Windows XP Media Center Edition". Once I have download, I get a different error message indicating that I have to download '.NET Framework 1.1 and .NET Framework 1.2 SP1' before I can continue with the update for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. • Media Player not installed correctly

Downloaded two WMA audiobooks and not able to listen to them via WMP nor able to transfer them to the iPOD.  Tells me that I need to update WMP security.  As he tried to update WMP security via the Overdrive Media Console software, I thought WMP not installed correctly.  Using XP and WMP 11.  Saved on WMP 11 from WMP 9 and reinstalled twice.  No luck.  Tried to rename the DRM folder and then trying to new security update.  No luck.

Thank you for your quick response.

Before receiving your response, I was able to solve the problem.  Here's what I did:

    (1) I deleted the two audiobook downloads from Overdrive Media Console software.

    (2) in the Panel, I removed WMP 11 and also removed Windows Media Format 11 Runtime (I did not remove this second program in my first two attempts to re - install WMP 11).

    (3) I have reinstalled WMP 11 on the microsoft.com Web site.

    (4) I launched the Overdrive Media Console software and selected > tools > Windows Media Player Security Upgrade.  This time, it worked as expected.

    (5) I have re-uploaded my two books.

I'm now able to listen to the audio books on WMP 11 and transferred successfully to my iPOD.

    Original title: MP3 Association.

    Hello

    Hello

I have 64 Ultimate, I had a problem with the version number of WMPLOC. DLL, see the attachment. I run Kaspersky AV completely up to date.
There is a lot of info on the net and none have worked in this newsgroup on how to fix this error however.

I tried to change the version of the file with resource hacker and I tried all the dos commands to save the version of the file, but it worked only partially.

I to WMP do not have access to the list of start/programs, don't y at - it programs in one and the list of features "Turn Windows features on or off", my desktop shortcut has been for version 32 bit and who made the error, as did double click an MP3 file.

I have 32 and 64 bit versions of WMP on my PC, I created a shortcut on the desktop for the 64 bit version and it works however I can't associate MP3s with the 64-bit version, dialogue 'Open with' reverts to the 32-bit version (and I get the error) even if I chose the wmplayer.exe in 64-bit file , I tried to rename the folder WMP 32 bit for windows does not find the exe file in this folder and it uses just Quicktime for the association.

Y at - it a fix for this problem of association?

    Thank you

    Daniel

I guess you need go to the 64-bit version of Internet Explorer as well for this. There should be a shortcut to this version in the Menu start - all programs. Tim Baets

advice of pl me to open WMP 11 thanks

    Hi rajendrankarunakaran,

This problem occurs if the version of wmp.dll is at odds with what is defined in the Windows registry.

Try the steps listed in the following article to resolve this problem:
  • Restart of Windows 7 do not install correctly and repeated

First off am I be forced to install windows 10?

I used windows 7 for years, never had any problem and the update of windows 10 being available for me at home I have had repeated errors.

First, I installed 10 windows on my laptop and who died with a kind of disk error. So that put me off adding w10 to my office.

The update became available on my desk and I refused to update and continue with w7. After a few weeks, I started to find that my office was going randomly through the shutdown process.

After some checks and ensure that it was not an overheating problem.

    -reinstalled windows 7

1 week later the reset has started to happen again...

-installed windows 10 (he hated and reversed the update)

I looked online to find that a file to update windows ending 583 is part of the w10 pre install and probably was causing reset.

    -removed this update

    -turned off automatically updates

1 week later the reboots are again...

later watched it online and seemed that I should check Event Viewer. A few errors here related to the windows sideshow and my Logitech Keyboard app couldn't find a way to get rid of sideshow windows (which seemed to be the recent update) and then deleted.

-reinstalled windows 7 using a different cd key has no where to subscribe to upgrade to w10 (3rd time now with the same problems listed below)

Windows updates are blocked, office turning off randomly, the Event Viewer appears to have several warnings and errors. Only worth my eth motherboard drivers installed.

I refuse to believe that it is bad luck to fuse or my Pc not it stays on in safe mode.
