Windows Media Player (v.11) will not play my avi files!

This just started recently... today I imported my son videos on my computer and they are simple AVI files that I don't know if easily and easily play on WMP without problem, and they always until I just tried... I try to open the video and at the bottom, he says its "acquired codeq', but then the error message:"a codec is needed to play this file. To determine if this codec is available to download, click on help on the Web"... then I do. Then he said something like "module10: Opera" or something... I guess that means Opera, the browser, that I downloaded in desperation, since longer works also none of my browsers except IE 64-bit... (any other problem in itself!) but I've removed opera once I realized that it was just like the other browsers: non-working on my computer! So I don't know what's happening on here all of a sudden but its boring and I don't know how to fix it. I tried Quicktime and it opens very well but it is a black screen-no sound or picture. What is going on?! I used DriverCure reallocate what types of files are partners/open with this program, but that did not help. What can I do to view today's simple avi files? :(

Try google for a FREE video converter.
Use it to convert the format of your video to WMV format.
Now try to play in WMP. For the benefits of others looking for answers, please mark as answer suggestion if it solves your problem.

  • Windows Media Player for Vista, does not play my avi files and says he has a codec error?

Came across this problem trying to put an AVI in powerpoint presentation for the school. I don't know how this happened or how to fix the error. The error indicates that windows media player is not the right codec to play the video. However, when I sent it myself and opend it upwards on another computer, which doesn't have powerpoint, it plays very well.

I did some research as to what a codec for windows media player, that's what code and decodes the video compression. However, when I tried to download the appropriate codec file, there is nothing. Not even useful workaround solutions.

In addition, went and downloaded quicktime and it could not read the video either.

Any help or ideas would be greatly apreciated. Thank you!

    Hi DaisyReaper,

Are you able to play .avi files?

You can use your favorite search engine to download and install the latest codec for Windows Media Player. Subsequently, check if you are able to read .avi files.

    Try the following...

In the list... Select... Windows Media Player / OK / apply / OK...

  • Windows Media Player in vista has stopped playing my video files (.) MOD extensions)

My Windows media player recently stopped playing my video files that have a. Extension of MOD, although the audio is not yet once the video is crushed. When the video freezes a computer bubble lets me know that the driver igfx has stopped working and then recovered.

I spent many hours trying to solve this problem. My graphics card is an Intell chipset and it is up to date with his driver (I checked), the motherboard is an ASUS and this is far too - I checked. I ran an auto fix and that disabled four codecs, but the problem persists. I have run the sfc / scan now processes at the prompt as an administrator and it came clear.

The problem is driving me crazy! can anyone help? When I play the video on another computer that works under XP, I have no problem.

    Thank you

    Hello

    1. don't you also get an error with the message code?
2 have you installed third-party readers part?
    3. What is the format of the files you are trying to play?

Follow these steps and check if they help.

    Step 1:

I would have you readers of third party temporarily Uninstall and check if persists it to the question.

    Step 2:

Most likely you need codecs to play these files with Windows Media Player. I suggest looking up codec in the Internet that supports the file format, download and install them.

    Method 2:
This problem may be due to database corruption. You can delete the Windows Media Player database and check if the problem persists.

Steps to clear the database of windows media player:

    a. exit Windows Media Player.
    b. Click Start, run, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Media Player and then click OK.
    c. Select all files in the folder and then click on Delete on the file menu.

Note you don't have to remove the folders that are in this folder.

    d. restart Windows Media Player.

Note Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.

If this does not resolve the problem, disable the Windows Media Player database cache files. To do this, follow these steps:

    a. exit Windows Media Player.
    b. Click Start, click Run, type % LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft and then click OK.

    c. Select the Media Player folder, and then click on Delete on the file menu.
    d. restart Windows Media Player.
