WINDOWS MESSAGE "UNABLE TO INSTALL MICROSOFT UPDATES"
I received a window of MICROSOFT to install UPDATES, in doing so, after clicking on 'Install' message says "UNABLE to INSTALL UPDATES"
You receive errors related to updates?
1. open Windows Update by clicking the Start button, all programs and then click Windows Update.
2. in the left pane, click view update history.
3. find an update for Windows that has failed to install, and then double-click the update to view more information.
Updates that have failed to install will display failed under status, next to the name of update.
4. in the Windows Update dialog box, next to the details of the error, review the error code for the update has failed.
5. click on the links in the dialog box Windows Update under more information or help and Support to try to solve the problem, then try to reinstall updates by using Windows Update in Control Panel or by mail with the error code and maybe someone may be able to help others.

- Stop the Background Intelligent Transfer Service and the automatic updates service. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click run, type cmd, and then click OK.
- At the command prompt, type the following commands and press ENTER after each command:net stop wuauserv
net stop bits

- Rename the Catroot2 folder.
Note Do not follow this step if you are using Microsoft Windows 2000.
To rename the Catroot2 folder, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click run, type cmd, and then click OK.
- At the command prompt, type the following commands and press ENTER after each command:
net stop cryptsvc
Ren %systemroot%\System32\Catroot2 oldcatroot2

Important Do not rename the folder C:\windows\system32\catroot. The Catroot2 folder is automatically recreated by Windows, but the C:\windows\system32\catroot folder is not recreated if is renamed the folder C:\windows\system32\catroot.

- Click Start, click run, type %any, and then click OK.
- Right-click the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder, and then click Rename.
- Type SoftwareDistribution.old, and then press ENTER to rename this folder.
- Save the files used by Windows Update and Microsoft Update. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click run, type cmd, and then click OK.

Error description: Microsoft Security Essentials was unable to install the updates of definition, because the proxy server or target server names is not resolved.
Here is an article that meets your specific error message regarding updates:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/900936. I am surprised that the error occurs with all the updates, but there may be a difference between them that causes the problem for definitions, but not for others. Clean boot
If the problem does not persist in safe mode you can also perform the clean boot.
