Windows Movie Maker-impossible to capture videos

Movie Maker has been so easy...

I almost gave up.  It was so easy with Movie Maker XP to create quality DVD videos.  Less than 7, I can't capture anything.  I had to buy a new webcam.  My old HD quality video camera is not recognized.  Previously, I spent about 3 hours to create a pleasant 10-minute video edited with pieces imported to import to a well know video sharing site.  With Windows 7, I've probably spent 40 hours and I can't say that I have 1 second of captured video yet.  Unfortunately, my next purchase can come from a competator...

Unless I can get Windows 7 to recognize my camera, I'm going to have capture my video using a XP machine and then save on a USB stick and transfer it to my Windows 7 computer.  Once this is done, I can import into WMM 2.0 or 2.6 (I have two now).

I wonder if I could pass in "XP" Mode and get the machine to recognize my camera... I might have to experience this. Not the best solution, but perhaps viable work around...

=======================================
If you happen to be running Windows 7 Professional, ultimate edition
company or... XP mode may be useful to experiment with. :

Using the Director to download my video noise is get recorded. Black screen is displayed on the video section. Any ideas on what I am doing wrong? I checked the help on the program and measures diplay window all correctly until I try to capture the segment, then no video.

Whenever you get a black screen for video and audio played correctly, this means that you do not have the right video codec installed on your computer. To solve this problem, the simplest method is to install an application called MediaInfo on your computer, so that you can analyze the video file and see which codec you need to install. This tutorial on sound with no picture in Windows Media Player mentions the problem, that is the question even if it occurs in Windows Movie Maker or Windows Media Player.

What is the format of the music files? Could be interesting

Just because a file is played in Windows Media Player

Several formats are apparently compatible with
Movie Maker, but the most reliable choices are:

Video - wmv or dv - avi
    Music - wma, wav, wmv

  • My saved Windows Movie Maker Project open with video clips in the Audio editing panel and vice versa (NOT as it was created). Can I move them back where they belong?

After days of the creation of a filmmaker 'project' I 'saved project' one last time, then reopen and publish a movie.  All my video Clips (phtotos) now appear in the Audio editing / music along the bottom with only a video clip standing in line of the video of this 'slide show' of 90 minutes.  Is it possible to move these clips to which they belong without having to recreate the whole project?

What happens if you try to read the project in Movie Maker?

Looks like your project .mswmm file is corrupt (starting
Perhaps more than the best approach). The project can be as far
too big and too complex to publish (save) with success as a
    video file.

I suggest that you create several small projects
and publish (save), each of them in the. WMV video format
and then re-import the collection. To combine WMV files
    in a single movie.

You can also import collection. Clips WMV to DVD
Manufacturer and each clip, would have become a scene (chapter)
    on the DVD.

  • Sync audio/video Windows Movie Maker problem

When you use Windows Movie Maker 5.1 to capture video from my Panasonic PV-GS39 DV camera, audio is 15 seconds ahead of the video.  Anyone know what is the cause or how to fix it?  No other programs are running at the time of the capture.

    Windows Movie Maker 5.1
    Windows XP Service Pack 3

It is difficult to say why Windows Movie Maker would be to have this problem, but my recommendation would be to eliminate it from the video capture process. There is an excellent free program called WinDV you can use to capture video on your computer, then you can change using Windows Movie Maker, once the capture is complete. Video capture questions can be exasperating. Along with other instructions of troubleshooting, I explain why you might want to use WinDV in a tutorial on video troubleshooting.

  • When I import a video file into Windows Movie Maker it plays Audio and video

When I import a video file into Windows Movie Maker, it plays the video and no Audio how to import the video file so that it contains the audio when the time to line up? Help?

Watch the video file. The last 3 letters represent the file format.

Windows Movie maker only supports the following video file formats:

Video files: .asf, .avi, .dvr-ms, .m1v, .mp2, .mp2v, .mpe, .mpeg, .mpg, .mpv2, .wm, and .wmv

If yours is not on the above list, Movie Maker will have probel play.

In this case, you will have to google for a free video converter and change the format of your video file to WMV. WMV format is the most reliable format for Windows. For the benefits of others looking for answers, please mark as answer suggestion if it solves your problem.

  • Using Windows Movie Maker - background noise

I am downloading some videos of Window Movie Maker. All the videos have very strong background noise. But when I play videos in real player, the videos play fine without background noise. My husband has used iMovie to edit these videos and has either no problem of background noise.

  • Film shot in Windows Movie Maker crashes after 6 seconds during playback in Windows Media Player

I have a film created (1 minute, 20 seconds) in Windows Movie Maker of two short videos to YouTube.  The original files were .mp4 files and I converted the .wmv files.  I cut 7 seconds since the start of the first video and just linked the two original videos into one.  No special effects.  Plays well in Windows Movie Maker.  Save the file as an .mswmm file (required by Movie Maker) and then published as a .wmv.  When I play it in Windows Media Player, he plays for 6 seconds, then freezes, but the bottom bar is moving, as if he is playing.  I tried to do the same thing without clipping 7 seconds from the beginning - same result.  I used WINFF (free Converter).  Any ideas?  Thanks for your help.

    Hello RachelPierce,

    1. what happens when you try to play the files with Windows Movie Maker?

This problem can be caused by codecs supporting not the file that you created. If you use a converter, I suggest that you convert the files to MPEG format and verify if you are able to play the files.

    Thank you
