Windows remains in the update from start menu

My laptop for some reason any will not properly start to Windows Vista.  What happening every time that you start the computer, it goes through the regular boot screens, not the symbol microsoft windows and then goes into screen Vista starts once you have installed the updates and it says exactly this: Configure updates: stage 3 of 3.  In a first time, it is said that it is at 0% and then it rises to 87% and then says "Shutting Down... "restarts the computer and it all over again.  He has not started windows and probably did more than 10 times.  I have a recovery disc I made (this computer is HP and it gives you the opportunity to make a recovery disc) and I put the first and it only slows down the time it takes to restart the "Configuring updates" screen  If someone could please help me and tell me something to do would really be appreciated.

P.S. I'm not computer illiterate and know more than the normal person on the computers.  The boot order is with the CD first and then the hard drive and it still goes the same screen.  I tried safe mode, and it only makes the larger screen.  Also I don't know if that makes a difference, but the computer could install or download updates when he was arrested.

  • Vista will not start after update 12/9 - a patch prevents the system from starting.

My computer has downloaded an automatic update on 09/12/09.  It restarted while I was at work, and when I got home he had just ran a startup repair function which could not solve the problem.  I tried to run the rapair again and it failed.  I tried to do a system restore on the eve of the update, but the operating system could not start again, and I was sent automatically the Startup Repair tool.

When I look at the diagnostics, the message says "a patch prevents the system from starting.  I have no idea how to solve this problem.  Can someone please?

You try to use the package manager I link a few post above?  Otherwise, demarrer start from your DVD, type command prompt, and then follow the steps in method 2.  http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/940410
If this does not fix it you can rename the pending.xml file and restart.  To do this, boot from the DVD and enter the command line.  Then type:
CD windows\winsxs - press on enter
    Ren pending.xml pending.old - press on enter

    Then restart the system.

You said "when I try to do a system restore, it is said that there is no previous restore point" and I was wondering if you have tried a "Startup Repair" not a system restore.  Mike - Engineer Support Microsoft Answers

Thanks again for your response. Since your last I discovered through my system status (Control Panel), I wrote that my product ID and the Windows 7 activation status not available. However, I was given the opportunity to phone, but received no phone #. I bought the DVD of Windows 7 and installed on the PC that was custom built for me.  On the site Web microsoft help and support, I was asked for the product ID, which according to them is a # 20 numbers.  Not the only one, I have is the product key which is one 25-alpha-numeric.  I tried to enter only and does not pass.  This is why I say that I can pay for help since I did not ' have the product ID.  Maybe it isn't your area of expertise, Irfan, but I was hoping... Hello

    1. what changes have been made to your computer before the problem?

Follow these steps and check if they help.

    Step 1:

I would say you rebuild the icon cache and check if the problem persists.

    a. press the keyboard Windows logo key combination + R to bring up the Run dialog box.
    b. type cmd and press ENTER to open the command prompt window.
    c. in the command prompt window, type the following commands pressing ENTER after each line:
    Taskkill /f /im explorer.exe
    attrib-h "%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\IconCache.db.
    del "%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\IconCache.db.
    Explorer.exe

    d. this restart Windows Explorer and rebuild the cache icons as needed.

    Step 2:

Test the issue in a new user account.

After you have cleaned the malware I notice my windows Defender, windows update didn't work more and my printer software has been removed.

If anyone can give some suggestions I would greatly appreciate the help and advice.

    Thank you

    Hi Byron,

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I do not understand that you are unable to connect to Windows to receive the updates and run Windows Defender and I'll be happy to answer your query.

This could be due to any dispute of third party software or system files missing or corrupt. We will try the following methods and check.

Method 1: Put the computer in a clean boot state and check.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Place your system in the clean boot state helps determine if third-party applications or startup items are causing the problem. You must follow the steps in the article mentioned below to perform a clean boot.

How to perform a clean boot in Windows

Note: see 'How do I reset the computer to start normally after a boot minimum troubleshooting' to reset the computer starts normally after troubleshooting.

Method 2: Run the System File Checker tool

System File Checker is a Windows utility that allows users to find corruptions in Windows system files and restore the damaged files.

Press the Windows key + X , and then click prompt (Admin)

Type the following command and press enter

    sfc/scannow

Note: Do not close the command prompt window until the audit is completed 100%. The results of the analysis will be posted when this process is complete.

From now on, try the methods above and let us know the result.

Hope this information is useful. Please feel free to answer in the case where you are facing in the future other problems with Windows.

  • Windows cannot check the updates - C800044E error code

    Hello

Since yesterday, I get a notification icon in the taskbar indicating that windows cannot check the updates. If I click on the icon and then click on the button "check for updates" in the new window, the search end reports that an error has occurred and the error code is C800044E. This happens every time after the computer starts and when I try to manually check for updates.

The operating system is Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit with OEM license.

I already googled for this error code, but none of the suggestions found during the search worked. Mode by default with no results, I installed the MicrosoftFixit50202 (have not tried yet aggressive mode). I ran the malware Microsoft Windows (without threats found) removal tool. I downloaded and installed manually the KB947821 update for vista, also without results.

The last successful update is dated more than a month previously, and I assume that at the same time, some important updates may appear. Can someone help me with this problem?

I've already solved the problem by using the system restore (I used a restore enjoyed a week point).

I'll answer your questions anyway, in which case this may help solve one similar problem to others:

    1 Vista SP2 (all updates important/critical installed as of October 1, 2010)

    2. Eset NOD32 antivirus/antispyware with current subscription. No third-party firewall (just the windows firewall).

3-4. I have never installed a Norton or McAfee application on this computer, but I'm not sure if a trial version of Norton AV is pre-installed with this computer (if it did, I removed it when I originally set up the computer - almost 3 years ago).

    * original title - Windows cannot verify the updates - error msg. Have Vista - thinking about installing Windows 7 to fix this and other miners some

If Vista is having a problem with updates there is a very small chance that the upgrade to Windows 7 will not solve the problem. A shop to factory settings which will certainly solve. However if you plan to keep all data and applications a restore to factory settings or Windsows 7 "Custom / Clean ' install means that you must first backup all your data to external media files, then after cleaning install you will need to reinstall all your applications.
