Windows search indexing, but number of indexed items changes do not

Hello

I'm using XPSP3 and Search 4.0.  Windows search indexing, but the number of indexed items changes do not.  It has been like that for several hours.  What is happening with this?  It slows down the performance, but I don't want to stop so he'll get.

Any ideas?

Indexing finally stopped, but it took days!

  • How to prevent her hogging the disk of Windows Search Indexer?

I am running Windows 8 Enterprise. From time to time, Windows Search Indexer starts hogging the drive - see the Task Manager as much as 10 MB/s of the indexer service alone.

It is quite common to be not only a nuisance, but a major problem - this kind of results of the use of the disc in constant applications freezing, same mouse stuttering. I did have this kind of problem on Windows 7.
I also suspect that Windows should be to avoid this kind of use of the disc by any application. I think that there is no limitation that happens and any application can monopolize the disc.

    Hello
Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

From your problem description, I understand that Windows Search Indexer shows 10 Mbps in the Task Manager.

  • Windows search indexing

    w

What is "windows search indexing" and what good, it is for me?  I have 336 files 'indexed '... I don't know where or what they are, or why they have been listed in the first place.

    Hi prattdl,

The "Windows Search Indexing" is used by Windows search function, the indexing service makes 'faster' research by creating an index (or list) of all the existing files on the computer to be able to run faster search file, however, in my opinion, the indexing service is not very useful or necessary if you aren't looking for Windows-dependent I suggest to disable if you do not use Windows search.

    See you soon ~!

Yes exactly... They cause more grief they give happiness.

Any procedure, be it manual or a click difficulty, which promises to speed up a computer will eventually weaken the system to the point where it becomes almost unusable.

The best way to a faster computer is to buy a faster computer.

  • Windows search index how to disable Internet Explorer history & MSOcache

    Win XP SP3

I would like to deselect Internet explore history & MSOcache in the search indexer in Control Panel > Indexing Options.

    http://answers.Microsoft.com/en-us/IE/Forum/IE8-windows_other/remove-Internet-Explorer-history-from-indexing/a3fa70e3-0f57-40E9-b1c7-84edcc87c3b4?page=1&TM=1323255495109#footer>

On the selection of control panel > Indexing Options the Indexing Options dialog shows Internet Explorer history as an included location but I can't find a way to deselect.

This place does not appear in the change in the locations dialog. I tried left and do a right click, push all the buttons and so on without result.

I also note that under C: MSOcache selected but grayed out there. If I try to disable the ToolTip message appears "can't deselect because you must first select the parameter" Index this folder for making faster "in the files properties Advanced attributes. For me this counter intuitive: surely the point should not even in the search indexer if this parameter is not defined, and it takes everything first to allow a quick search...? !

  • Microsoft Windows Search index

It uses a large amount of memory and want to know if I disable it, it will make my computer run slower? or faster printing, its not work constantly. Is it really necessary for nothing? Or I have nothing to fear if I do not disable it.

(Sorry if this isn't in the right topic)

It uses a large amount of memory and want to know if I disable it, it will make my computer run slower? or faster printing, its not work constantly. Is it really necessary for nothing? Or I have nothing to fear if I do not disable it.

(Sorry if this isn't in the right topic)

    Hello

The difference, if you disable the search indexer will be the speed of searches that you perform on the system. With the active search indexer, research will be instant, and with this option turned off, they will take a lot of time. It's the performance issue only if you turn off this feature.

If you have recently enabled the search indexer, it is normal for this component to use a lot of resources, but once the indexing is completed, the resources will be negligible.

The search indexer is also designed to perform indexing when your computer is idle. If you start to use the computer, the indexer will pause until it detects an idle state.
