Windows Server 2008 on DELL 2950 PE

Hi guys,.

As you can see I am new to this forum :)

I started this thread because someone asked me to install W2K8 on a PE 2950. I prepared my Setup CD so and the question is now... Should I still RAID for this OS driver? Usually, I know that when you install Win Server on a station, you also the RAID controller driver separatelly. Usually, I do download from the manufacturer's website and put it on a floppy disk that can be connected via a USB cable and I have no problem. This time, I tried the RAID for PE 2950 driver and I found some drivers but for Windows Server 2003 and not for 2008.

So, do I need a separate installing W2K8 RAID driver or this one is smart enough and installs the driver itself?

And if I need, I can here a link please? I searched a lot and found nothing.

Are there other things I should prepare before installing W2K8 on this machine?

Thank you very much!

June2nd,

The reason why you can't find the drivers for 2008 is because they are integrated into the operating system. All what you need to do is boot the 2950 with the drivers and the media of 2008 should load automatically.

Let me know how it goes.

  • Drivers for Windows Server 2008 R2

    PE1950, 2950 and MD3000i MPIO on Windows Server 2008 R2

We're trying to nail a few dates to migrate our W2K8 R2 platform and plan the project.  We have most of our technical plans in place, and we have the code.  We have no Dell drivers however and there are several suspicious communications from Dell on this topic...

    Case #1: http://en.community.dell.com/blogs/insideit/archive/2009/08/10/ready-for-the-transition-dell-provides-support-for-windows-server-2008-r2.aspx

    Note:

    • Our engineers have missed on countless piano recitals, songs and episodes of American Idol while spending thousands of hours of testing and validation to make sure that dy products Dell running Windows Server 2008 R2 are the business-rea.
    • We have pilot complete support for Windows Server 2008 R2 for Dell hardware so you can deploy, run and manage easily. You can go here to download the drivers.

If you view the service labels in our support of similar product groups, you will find an R2 option for servers... but the only public services on the PowerVault MD3000i you don't find any reference to R2 at all.

    Case #2: http://www.delltechcenter.com/page/Supportted+Dell+PowerEdge+Systems+for+Microsoft+Windows+Server+2008+R2+Beta

This is a list of Beta for PE obviously compatible servers, however it would make sense If Microsoft has included natively the right drivers for the Dell hardware in the distribution of Microsoft R2 RTM so, just can't find any supporting documentation and do not know if the network drivers are compatible with MD3000i.

#3: There are a few hacks to get drivers Windows 2008 MPIO inherited working with the RC R2 & MD3000i on this forum, but no reference to R2 in the MD3000i matrix and nothing on the site... it's why, we have wondering again where are the good drivers for R2 RTM?

Can you be it someone from Dell and or this forum please send information on these issues?

#1: driver compatibility of matrix for Windows Server 2008 R2 running on PE1950 and connected to an MD3000i PE2950 is a supported configuration?  (Code R2 RTM was released to Microsoft volume license customers)

#2: the network drivers for the host machines included in the support of Windows Server 2008 R2 RTM?  If this is true, are the drivers MPIO for MD3000i and iSCSI Dell other platforms included in the support of Windows Server 2008 R2 RTM as well then?

#3: If all the answers are not questions #1 and #2... could someone PLEASE contact people of pilot certification on Dell to see if they are same in QA at this point, if they plan to update and display an estimated date of implementation?  We have contacted tech support, but received very vague answers on anything with R2 at this stage.  There is a business directory and a path to escelation for support tickets, but the midrange as this makes it much easier to share information for the masses, we just have not yet found.

Thanks for your information, comments and your support!

I was finally sent to someone who could give me some information on this within Dell, here's what they said:

    PE 1950/2950 drivers:

The pilot should be included natively in Windows Server 2008 R2 media, and if so, would these drivers would be supported by Dell in a production scenario.

    MD3000i:

I know that we will not issue a new MDSM which will fund 2008 R2 until sometimes in October. The MD3000i requires MPIO to the MD3000i and Dell drivers driver installation to work properly. I'll see if there is other information that I can find. I understand your frustration and engineer told me that this has been corrected in the next MDSM and MD3000i firmware version in October.

So, it looks like October before MD3000i will be supported.

  • Windows server 2008 r2 outgoing smtp

    Hello

I have a dell t300 running windows server 2008 R2. It is running Hyper-v, also manage a virtual machine running windows server 2008 r2 with exchange 2010 sp1.

Everything was fine, then all of a sudden, over the weekend, outgoing calls to port 25 have stopped working on the virtual machine.  I can use Explorer (port 80) ok but nothing to the port 25 stops - it's as if the firewall blocks but I don't see where.  I try to call port 25 on various other hosts using telnet and it does NOT work

The physical host works very well to port 25, as do all systems on my network, so the problem lies in the implementation of windows server 2008 r2 in the virtual machine somehow.  I have another virtual machine running windows XP on the same host and that is called fine ut using telnet to the virtual network bridge is not the problem either. I'm guessing that the firewall or a corruption of the tcp stack sort

I ' LD be grateful for clues about where to look because email system has continued to send him and it's a major pain.

    Thank you

Hi, Ive answered my own post!  turns out the problem be mcafee that is running on the server. It was blocking the outgoing mail that he had detected an apparent threat. Unfortunately, it didn't say clearly that he had done this.

In any case, the deactivation of this area of mcafee has solved the problem. all I have to do now is to discover the threat!

  • Error 0xc00000e9 on Windows Server 2008 std

I have a Dell Poweredge R410 which works well for over 3 years now and has Windows Server 2008 std 64 bit.

At Christmas, let him download and install updates.

But going back, I found it displayed error '0xc00000e9' and ' boot manager is missing or damaged.

I tried to repair by original DVD disc but I can't find the installation of windows 'fix' and on that list, empty it.

If I try to boot with the disc of Windows 7 Pro, I can see the existing installation of windows.

How can I fix this server?

I can not format because of the payload inside.

I was not able to find any forum messages from anyone who has this exact problem.  The server is plugged into an APC Smart UPS RT and has a charge about 50%, so a conditioned power is not a problem.  I looked at Dell Server Administrator and there is not on the server or reading errors that are inconsistent.

  • T330 incompatibility of Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 install USB 3.0

The T330 has no native support for USB 2.0.  Installation of Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 media has no native support of USB 3.0. Installation of the OS then the mouse and keyboard do not work.   I tried to inject the drivers USB 3.0 into Server 2008 Windows ISO (see: https://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/04/SLN300618/en ).   Injection in ISO works fine and it solved the problem of no keyboard or mouse to begin the installation of the OS

BUT once the base OS is installed and you come to the first post install screen (when it is now booting from the hard drive) to change the password and proceed with the installation, the keyboard and the mouse are again in opening.    My best guess is that the USB 3.0 drivers do not get installed on the hard disk.  I tried to start again and reinstall the operating system but same result.  The creation of the ISO by KB post above was clean and efficient.  No errors.

"I saw a different Dell ' Faq ' recommend to disable USB 3.0 is the BIOS OF THE system.  On this current - nine T330 - model, BIOS update, there is no BIOS setting/option.

Looking for a solution.   Had an old PCI USB 2.0 card, but the machine has no PCI ports.  Consider trying a USB 2.0 PCIE card.

What is amazing, is that Dell sells the T330 No. USB 2.0 compatible - installation of SP1 W2008R2 difficult and perhaps impossible.  NOTE: this OS is a Dell supported OS for the T330 I would not have bought if it wasn't supposed to be supported (I am restoring a DC with this OS due to a mother failed on a server of EP).

Solved: Bought a PCIE USB 2.0 card. This works.  Model is Sonnet Allegro USB PCIe (2.0).

If I had known, I would have just bought the thing and ignored the whole pilot injection exercise.

  • Hard drives not found when you try to install Windows Server 2008

    Hey guys and girls,

I've spent the last 20 hours, trying to solve the problem of not being able to install windows server 2008 r2 on a new Dell server.

    My configuration is:

    Dell PowerEdge R310

    4 x 1 TB 7.2 K SATA HDD

    Controller Raid PERC H700

I can't even install the drivers that I downloaded from the Dell support site because Windows Server 2008 Setup will not recognize them.  These factors include the Raid Controller, chipsets Intel, SATA etc.

I used the settings default, all changed the Auto Off Ports and vica versa, I put the server in Raid and ATA mode with all the possibilities, but it will be will not detect any HD!

Please help, as it is essential for my health, employment and mental health.

    Best regards

    Sami L.

What OS?  What RAID controller?  How many discs?  The size?  RAID level?

I can't assume that everything is the same, especially when you have a different system altogether which does not support the H700 (so the files would have been meaningless even if Dell had not broken links). :)
