I have windows xp. I need to password protect my computer so no one cannot use it but me how I do this?

First of all, make sure that your only administrative account is password protected. Go to Control Panel-users for this. While you are there make sure that there are no other defined accounts, delete them if there are (if they have given you can back this up first). Finally you need to password protect the administrator account. This will normally not visible in the Panel.

If you are using XP Home Edition, the built-in Administrator account probably doesn't have a defined password. You can start in safe mode, where this account will be selectable when connecting.

To start in safe mode, keep hitting F8 twice a second after turning on the PC until you get the start menu where safe mode is selectable by the up/down arrow keys, and then press ENTER.

If you are using XP Professional, you need not to do it in safe mode (although you can if you wish). If your normal login screen is a display of the user symbol and hit ctrl-alt-del twice to get to login to text entry. Type administrator as the user name and try a blank password.

Once you are connected under the administrator, you can set its password. Do not forget this password and keep in mind that passwords are case-sensitive. If you have forgotten this password, this forum can not help you with cracking (or any other password) in the future.

You could also set a BIOS password, otherwise your PC can not even attempt to start Windows, and even less to connect to it. Look for the BIOS prompt entry at boot time.

    This is not a mechanism supported by Apple to change the size of the Windows partition. Apple supports the remove/reinstall only.

    I've been using Windows on my iMac (late 2012, Yosemite 10.10.5) without problem but today after I started MacOS Yosemite (to control simple file), cannot start again to return to Windows. Had no problem Bootcamp before... have not used to any advantage either 3rd disk utility. The only thing I have recently increased the Windows size 200 GB partition by decreasing the MacOS partition through disk utility (a month ago, no problem since then until today)

    1. Windows has disappeared from the startup disk

    2. disk utility shows disk0s4 gray and cannot be mounted. In addition, the correct partition size was 700 but here its listed as 500 GB GB (which was the old size before you increase it)

    3 when I try to restart with pressed ALT, Windows, but cannot restart, with a black screen showing "a disk error occurred.

    I'm not very familiar with techniques more. Only, I tried to install "Find" but cannot achieve anything with it.

    If you install Windows using Boot Camp Windows wizard will use all your computer RAM, 8 GB, when you start in Windows. It's more than enough RAM for Windows and a spin the requirements that you have posted.

    If you boot into OS x, OSX will use all 8 GB of RAM.

    Tried to install 7 or 8, since the installation of sierra what it messed my partitions where bootcamp windows 10, but now had to work I have to use an old Olympus Studio tool for project work/uni which works only on windows 7.

    It seems that apple has control over what you do on a machine and the system I have invested important sums of money in. Very close to sale until the installation of all mac and return to windows. El Capitan was buggy on my machine before and cling endlessly.

    You can connect an external drive of ExFat formatted. The OSX and Windows can read/write on a disk formatted ExFat.

    A virtual machine has its advantages, as does a Boot Camp facility. A virtual machine allows the simultaneous OS, any necessary initialization to change operating systems. Data can be shared between operating systems more easily. Computer such as memory resources are shared in a VM for applications environment to run slower.

    Installation of Boot Camp allows Windows to run in native mode by using all of the system resources, so apps will go faster. But to change operating systems, a reboot is required. It is more difficult to share data.

    Also, when installing windows 10, I pressed accidentally the "option" key after the installation finishes (it goes then to the start menu) and then I select the windows partition to boot windows. I don't know if that will cause a problem like that or not.

    I just tried to do my small MAC drive through disk utility, I shrunk the size of the disk of my mac partition.

    I still see "BOOTCAMP Windows" in Preferences > floppy boot, but when I restart in Windows I get a can not find disc blackscreen/error and it tells me to insert my Windows disk which I did not.

    When I restart the 'option' key now just the MAC HD.

    Can I save my Windows partition or do I have to start all over again?
