Windows Update (KB2541763) has screwed my computer and I can't uninstall it!

[1] it is a good copy of 64 bit Vista Home premium that was a clean may installation, the computer came originally preinstalled with Home Basic 32 bit.

[2] MSE has been installed on 21/05/2011.

[3] MSE is not automatically updated, I've always updated definitions through Windows updates when they become available as well as other updates.

[4] by using the tab to update fails to update the definitions manually.  "Security Essentials could not complete the virus and update the definitions of spyware on 07/02/2011, 08:06 following a problem of network connectivity or internet.

A1. You have activated the installation of 64-bit Vista yet?

A2. Assuming that you have also done the clean install may 21, how long was the computer connected to the internet or local networks (i.e. other computers) BEFORE you install MSE AND got the computer fully patched to Windows Update AND BEFORE you have installed other applications (other than MSE; for example, Office;) Windows Live Essentials)?

A3A. Is - this "I've always updated definitions through Windows updates" means that the Automatic Updates installs definitions MSE updates or have you perform a manual check for updates (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/How-can-I-tell-if-my-computer-is-up-to-date) in order to update the definitions of MSE? [1]

A3b. Open / click on MSE help | On Security Essentials via arrow: what is the Version of the engine & Antivirus/Antispyware definitions displayed here?

A4. It's not a good sign.

[1] updated definitions/Signatures MSE FAQ
http://answers.Microsoft.com/thread/74e507b8-f6da-4ECA-8CE7-d1aca7d3f1ba

A1. Yes, I have activated Windows.

A2. MSE has been the first app I installed so I wouldn't say it was long after the first commissioning (with in about 10 minutes), I could have Windows running the updates in the background before or during this time if it prompted me.

If I remember there was a lot of updates before SP2, so I'm sure that MSE has been installed prior to the installation of SP2.  Overall, it would have the majority of the evening before be updated through windows update.  I remember it being that quite a long process so lets say 4 or 5 hours.

A3A. Updates automatic warns me of new updates in the system tray and I have a quick check through them and more often that otherwise they are updates to the definitions of MSE and I always install as well as all other windows updates that may or may not be available.

It is quite common, so I start often manually updates windows to check to see if I am up to date.  I have in the past, but in general I will have already been updated.

A3b. Engine version: 1.1.7000.0

The antivirus definition: 1.107.690.0

AntiSpyware definition: 1.107.690.0

This is my story of most recent update, in the top of the page it is the failed attempts using the tab by MSE update after your request to try this: HISTORY of update

He also seems to be on the attempt of an update of definitions of the 30 that had to be through Windows updates, I just checked to see if MSE can always be updated using Windows updates and which also fails.

For Photoshop CS2 activation has been reprocessed, so your original drive and the serial number does not work.

As an owner of CS2, Adobe has a copy without activation and serial number, to which you are entitled.

The serial number is to the right of the download link for Windows. You'll need this one, not your old number.

Windows Update keeps trying to install K2686828 and KB2656369.  Whenever I tells me the installation succeeds only to ask again to update.  I tried the fix - it solutions, and they have not corrected the problem.  Also, I did a virus scan and found nothing.  All my other updates were installed without problem.

This problem is related to the MSI registration information inconsistancies.  I was able to fix by using a cmd "msiexec /i {C09FB3CD-3D0C-3F2D-899A-6A1D67F2073F} ADDLOCAL = ALL/l * v % temp%\repairLog.txt.  At the end of this process, the two installed normally KB and I have now no critical updates in the meantime.  I noticed that article 917964 described a situation where IE would not work if the repairs were made the xp without removal of IE8 or IE 7 first.  My IE 8 works fine.  By 917964, "before you perform a repair of Windows XP installation, you must uninstall Windows Internet Explorer 7 or Windows Internet Explorer 8 of the Windows XP computer.". If you perform a repair of Windows XP installation, when a later version of Internet Explorer is still installed, Internet Explorer does not once the repair is complete. »

    Tre,

A KB was created for the error code 0 x 80070424 that appears when you install Microsoft Windows Update/Microsoft Update. The KB includes an automated Microsoft Fix it 50686 that corrects the problem. Look at the following KB: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/968002>

Suggest you download and save the fix it.

Then close all open programs and browsers before running MS fix 50686.msi.

    (1) have your system scanned by the antivirus/security suite installed.
    (2) run this tool from Kaspersky: how to remove malware belonging to the family Rootkit.Win32.TDSS

    (3) download, install, update and run full scans with two of these tools free anti-malware:

    (4) run the Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 System File Checker (Sfc.exe) tool:

    `~`

If no malware has been detected, there's a Fixit on this page which will reset the Windows Update components:

Suggest you download and Save it. Then, close all the open programs and web browsers.
Run Microsoft Fixit 50202.msi and choose its default mode.
After that he finished the race, see if the return code is displayed again when looking for updates.

If not, then run the Fixit once more and choose his Aggressive mode.
Restart once it is finished and see if the return code always appears when the updates.

IF malware is detected, then please post if it has been removed and that the specific name of what has been detected.

  • When windows update is running on my machine (and updates), my screen goes down to 1024 x 768.

When windows update is running on my machine (and updates), my screen goes down to 1024 x 768.  I have a HD card of ATI all-in - Wonder and an Acer X203H LCD with DVI connection.  If I use system restore to go back, I can get higher resolutions, but Windows does its thing and I'm back at low resolution.  I can't change the settings manually as 1024 watch as the highest res available to the general public when this happens.  There must be some weird conflicts.  I tried to update the drivers, that made no difference.  Is there a setting Aero or the conflict at stake here?  In the past, I've had trouble with a display of balnk and I had to go back to the 2008 version of the driver to get things to work.  From there, whenever I update, I can keep high resolution, but after the last windows update (security of IE8 and much smaller pack that was released on March 28-30), it dates back to 1024 x 768 again.  Control Panel and catalyst control the two show that as more high resolution available for refresh rate. Suggestions?

Change your update settings to find the problem, we > then right-click on > hide.

And don't do hardware drivers through Windows updates.

Understanding Windows Update and Extras in Windows Vista

Download updates but let me choose whether to install them - if you select this option, Vista will download the updates on your computer, but not install them automatically. If you want to install updates, then you must install them manually. You should only select this option if you have a reason to not install updates automatically. Only advanced users should use this option.

Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them - if you select this option, you'll be alerted when there are new updates available for download and install. You can then choose to download and install the updates that you want. This option should really be reserved for people who know exactly which updates they need, or those who have little access to the Internet.

10.10 is no longer available unless you had previously downloaded. In this case, it would be in the purchase of the Mac App Store section. Its not available for direct plus download.

You can directly update 10.11 El Capitan.
