Windows Update keeps trying to install K2686828 and KB2656369.  Whenever I tells me the installation succeeds only to ask again to update.  I tried the fix - it solutions, and they have not corrected the problem.  Also, I did a virus scan and found nothing.  All my other updates were installed without problem.

This problem is related to the MSI registration information inconsistancies.  I was able to fix by using a cmd "msiexec /i {C09FB3CD-3D0C-3F2D-899A-6A1D67F2073F} ADDLOCAL = ALL/l * v % temp%\repairLog.txt.  At the end of this process, the two installed normally KB and I have now no critical updates in the meantime.  I noticed that article 917964 described a situation where IE would not work if the repairs were made the xp without removal of IE8 or IE 7 first.  My IE 8 works fine.  By 917964, "before you perform a repair of Windows XP installation, you must uninstall Windows Internet Explorer 7 or Windows Internet Explorer 8 of the Windows XP computer.". • Windows Update keeps wanting to install "Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 8 for Windows XP (KB2618444).

Windows Update keeps wanting to install "Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 8 for Windows XP (KB2618444)", even if it appears in the list of updates to inistalled in the control panel.  The installation fails.  When I use "Fix it", it indicates that default Windows update data locations have changed, but I can't 'Fix It' to do the repair.  In what could be a related issue, Windows Data Execution Prevention (part of IE 8?) detects a malfunctioning or malicious add-on, whenever I try to access a video on ESPN3 and closes the Web page.  However, 'Fix It' can not detect any problems with the modules.  I don't know what else to try to fix any of these problems.

  • Have no Microsoft Office installed, but Windows update keeps trying to install an "important security fix" for Office KB951944

I recently bought a Dell Inspiron 1545 with Windows Vista Edition Home Premium 64bits. A trial version of office 2007 has been pre-installed, but I removed it. Because something was wrong with deleting automatically I followed the instructions of a Microsoft Office site to manually remove. Although I followed all the steps, I still think that Windows Update sniffs a bit of the program, cause he mind keeps me with the security patch. Anyone an idea how to get rid of it?

    Thank you!

You can 'hide' any updates, but be aware that doing this cannot 'hide' all the new Office updates.

How to hide updates in Vista: click on view available updates (or Select the updates installed). Right-click on the update you want to hide. Click hide update | Confirm the UAC (User Account Control) prompt, as appropriate.

To restore/show updates for Vista: Start | Control Panel | System maintenance and (if you use Classic view, skip this step) | Windows Update | Restore hidden updates: Find and select the update you want to install | Restoration of. You can now select once again it and install through the normal process.

TIP: to avoid the downloading/installation, updates that you do not want to configure the automatic updates option second or third parameter in the Edit settings window. See picture here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/windowsupdate/learn/windowsvista.mspx

  • WINDOWS UPDATE KEEPS DO NOT...

(ERROR CODE 80072EE2) IT IS THE ERROR CODE I GET AFTER TRYING TO DO A WINDOWS UPDATE...

I got the error code above (80072EE2) and spent three days trying to solve. Troubleshooter wouldn't, wouldn't 'Fix' and I kept getting an error page after the other when I clicked on the links. The simple solution is to go to "Windows Live OneCare" (http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/whatsnew.htm) and start the download. It will download and then propose to do a scan of your system. Do this! I almost cancelled because I thought well I have anti virus, malware blockers and firewalls, etc. (more expensive also) and they amount to nothing. Clear batch OneCare and 'Update' has been reset and worked well subsequently. It took 12 hours while you wait, so your computer will be unavailable for a while. Do not work on your computer, while the scanners however running, he messes things.

Microsoft should have a big link to Windows Live OneCare on their page of Win7 problems because I am convinced that this would solve many problems of the update and perhaps many others.
