  • Window update problem (error Code: 80246008)

I recently tried to run Windows Update only for it to face an unknown error only by giving the error code 80246008. This also seems to affect windows defender which would not be up-to-date and Games for Windows Live that would not download (error code: 80080005).

After a lot of Googling the error code apprently (BITS) Background Intelligent Transfer Service does not work properly. When I try to manually start service (all under administrator privileges), he stops and begins to give this message:

"The service Service on Local computer Background Intelligent Transfer began and stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs. »

Then I downloaded the repair tool BITS (Windows6 0-KB940520 - x 86 - ENU) and ran to try to repair but it states:
"Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) repair is unnecessary at present."

I then tried to run Microsoft Fix It, in normal and aggressive mode, and it gets stuck and gives this error message:
"Service"Background Intelligent Transfer Service"(BITS) was able to start. Check that you have sufficient privileges to start system services. »

After looking at at least 20 different threads through the internet about this problem, my problem showed no evidence of a malware issue fixable (something to do with the malware by changing a registry key for % SystemRoot % and % fystemroot %), or due to other corrections mentioned work. Previously, McAfee SecurityCenter has been installed on my pc, but it has been replaced by McAfee Total Protectiononce the subscription has expired. [It isunderlining] I remember getting a Norton trial software installed at a given moment, but this has been removed to make room for software McAfee, to ensure that there is no conflict between the programs.

You should have installed McAfee Total Protection before as your McAfee Security Center subscription expires. If you're lucky, the following may solve your problem:

    1. download the Norton Removal Tool, save it to your desktop: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

1B. download the tool McAfee Consumer Product Removal, save it to your desktop:http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe

    2. close all open applications (that is, anything with an icon on the taskbar).

    3. right click on the file that you saved in # 1 above and select run as administrator to run the utility. DO TAP not your keyboard until the race ends, then restart.

    4. now run this triple McAfee fix: http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=TS100507

[Note that you you already downloaded the removal tool in my # 1 step b above.] You will restart three times: after uninstalling McAfee Total Protection; After you run the removal tool; and then the reinstallation of McAfee Total Protection.]

    5. after reinstalling McAfee Total Protection, manually & repeatedly update the app until you get a prompt "no update more".

    6. for good measure an another Windows update reset (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058), restart once again & test.

For two days I tried to get downloaded SP3. I did a clean install then and tried a second time, no chance even result. I did one installs own before without any problem of MS.

I went through hoops to Microsoft a number of times, Windows Update, the 'Fixit' without success and tried SP3 downoads, one of 300 + MB, another 500 + and another of I believe was around 7 800 MB, not to mention the various links, but just seem to go along in a circle without solution. I tried to install SP3 several times, but after a while, the computer stops the download and I have to start over with the same results.

I have read many of the [error number: 0x8024400A] comments on here but none of the suggestions seem to work for me so far. I don't know, it's maybe just me in my frustration after so many hours trying to get this "thing" to work and just to be led by steps or by hand at this stage... Just do a climb the walls!

A few months ago, my 7 years old Windows 7 update screen is changed while I was watching.  The new screen said he had never had updates and had never checked the updates.  News for me!  I tried: auditor of the system files, the tool update system, KB3172605, KB3020369, 70057, Agent update, stand-alone install all to nothing does not.  System diagnostic tests I run Windows Update show 70490 error, a mistake of service record and SURLog.cab problems and RC data store.  The report shows that they are not fixed by the test on the first screen, but are fixed on the second screen, but still Windows Update won't never checked and never had updates.  I had no updates since July 18. • Windows update fails and shows code error 80070490

Hello, I have Windows Vista Home Premium, 32-bit operating system and installed Service Pack 2.

I set Windows to update automatically, but I noticed today that this wasn't working properly, so I clicked on "check for updates" and she came back with the following message:
"Windows could not search for new updates, error found: Code 80070490 Windows update encountered an unknown error.

Under the error message, it lists that the ' most recent Check for Updates "was on 11/25/2009 and"updates have been installed"on 11/25/2009.
But when I checked "View update history" to see updates did not, all the updates that are listed have actually managed, no updates have been identified as having failed. The last update was actually - definition update for Windows Defender on 12/29/2009 - and the previous update - update for the Microsoft XML Core Service Pack 2 (KB973688) 25 / 11 / 2009.

I had this same problem earlier this year with the code 80070490 error come when I tried to update Windows and after trying all the solutions suggest online (including the assisted Microsoft Online Support), I had to contact the Support of Tecnical Microsoft on the phone and he needed someone to help me create a completely new Windows which meant that I lost everything in my old windows.

I don't want to go through this again, can anyone help?

    Ebony

I'll give you three options then I'm outta here for the new year.

    1.

Visit the Microsoft Solution Center and antivirus security for resources and tools to keep your PC safe and healthy. If you have problems with the installation of the update itself, visit the Microsoft Update Support for resources and tools to keep your PC updated with the latest updates.

2 uninstall SP2, and then recover (AKA repair installation) by http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958044.

    3. backup of personal data (which none should be considered 100% reliable at this point) then do a format and clean install of Windows.

HOW to do a clean install of Vista: section "If you want to reinstall Windows Vista by running a new installation...". "of http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Installing-and-reinstalling-Windows-Vista#section_3

Once installed the clean, you will have the equivalent of a "new computer" in order to take care of everything on the next page before connecting the machine to the internet or a network otherwise and before using a USB key that is not brand new, or has not been freshly formatted:

5 steps to help protect your new computer before going online
         http://www.Microsoft.com/protect/computer/advanced/XPPC.mspx

NB: No matter what Norton or McAfee free trial which is preinstalled on the computer when you bought will be reinstalled (but invalid) when Windows is reinstalled. You MUST uninstall the trial for free and download/run the deletion appropriate before installing any Windows Service Packs or IE updates and before installing your new anti-virus application.
