Windows updates not working not - code error 0xC800042D whenever I try

When I try to update I get error Code: 0xC800042D - I was able to do some updates, but now it gives me this error code every time.  I'm not a computer expert - I just want to update.  I use the feature Microsoft Fixit and he "fixed" the problem but still get the same error message.  What should I do to get the updates short of hiring a "programmer/geek-type of person" to reorganize my computer? I have no further details - simply put: How do the Windows updates to rework?

Hello

  1. What is the name of Microsoft Fixit are you referring to?
  2. Are you aware of any recent hardware or software on the computer changes before this problem?
  3. You are able to access the Internet?

Try the method provided in the article below and check after each method:

Temporary connection error may occur when you use Windows Update or Microsoft Update: http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/836941

Warning to disable the Antivirus: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Warning to disable Firewall: You should not turn off Windows Firewall unless you have another firewall is enabled. Turning off Windows Firewall may make your computer (and your network, if you have one) more vulnerable to damage caused by worms or hackers.

Note: once you have completed the steps, make sure that you turn on the firewall and reactivate the antivirus in order to avoid the risk of infection by the virus.

It will be useful.

Hello, I have Windows Vista Home Premium, 32-bit operating system and installed Service Pack 2.

I set Windows to update automatically, but I noticed today that this wasn't working properly, so I clicked on "check for updates" and she came back with the following message:
"Windows could not search for new updates, error found: Code 80070490 Windows update encountered an unknown error.

Under the error message, it lists that the ' most recent Check for Updates "was on 11/25/2009 and"updates have been installed"on 11/25/2009.
But when I checked "View update history" to see updates did not, all the updates that are listed have actually managed, no updates have been identified as having failed. The last update was actually - definition update for Windows Defender on 12/29/2009 - and the previous update - update for the Microsoft XML Core Service Pack 2 (KB973688) 25 / 11 / 2009.

I had this same problem earlier this year with the code 80070490 error come when I tried to update Windows and after trying all the solutions suggest online (including the assisted Microsoft Online Support), I had to contact the Support of Tecnical Microsoft on the phone and he needed someone to help me create a completely new Windows which meant that I lost everything in my old windows.

See the following instructions to Update libraries and solve this problem.

    1. in the file Explorer , select the folder parent of libraries in the left Navigation pane.

In the right pane click on the right button of the library of Documents, music, photosand videos by default, and select the Remove option. Click Yes to confirm the deletion.

(Note: this will not affect the folders or files in this library)

    2. in the Navigation to the left side pane, click on the libraries of parent folder and select restore default libraries option.

This will refresh the default libraries and should solve the problem.
