  • Updates for Windows 7 take hours even to collect the list of updates to install.

I have a new install of Windows 7. It takes several hours just to collect the list of installed updates and many more hours to download and install those I select Install. What's wrong? It's as if there is only 1 server to support Windows 7 on Earth. So if I have a problem with the installation and have to reinstall Windows 7, I have to start this process long download. I have a fast computer.

    Help, please

    Thank you, Brad

  • Is it because of this value 'DontOfferThroughWUAU' manual Windows update taking hours? (Urgent)

    In my previous question http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-update/how-not-to-install-kb890830-windows-update-as-it/48836332-b1c0-4b97-922e-60f463041336

to solve the problem, I created a 'DontOfferThroughWUAU' registry value and thought that he'd stop only auto update of KB890830.

In any case, after obtaining US-CERT Microsoft Releases Security Update I checked update Windows in the bar of tasks, but it was not all then I have checked manually. Now an hour has lapsed and Windows update is to be confirmed. It happens because of the registry value that I created or 11 update from Microsoft could be taken in time.

Or do I have to remove the SOOPER DontOfferThrough?

    Please advice.

    Thank you

You can return to your previous setting, once the manual installation was a success.

  • How long should windows updates take after 5 months of Vista?

I have Windows Vista on a Toshiba laptop. A few days ago, I noticed that the last successful update was on 11/06/12. Then I ran windows update manually, but was getting an error that says "Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running." You may have to restart your computer. "So I restarted my computer and went and it was OK, the service was not working. So I started manually. This allowed me to get updates. I clicked on install, and it said installation of updates. Its been almost 3 hours. In the Task Manager it shows the window updates running and in services, it shows the service running windows update. I'm just curious to know how long to him given has not updated for 5 months? Assistance or direction would be useful and appreciated. Thank you.  Herb

    Hello

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Community.

It's really weird that Windows has not been updated for 5 months. The time depends on the updates required for Windows, drivers as well as other Microsoft software, apart from the speed of internet connection. This is why the time cannot be guessed.

Kindly updated Windows from time to time for peaceful work of the PC.

  • Windows Update does not end: "check updates".

Today & yesterday I tried to run Windows Update on my 2 computers Win7 (64 bit), a desktop computer (as a HTPC) one and the other a laptop ASUS.

Other software (Adobe, Skype, etc.) on these 2 p. Update OK.

These 2 PC updated successfully at the beginning of the month, 7 & 8 April 2016.
For operational reasons, both of these pieces are set to be updated MANUALLY (not automatically).

    The laptop is used rarely.

My main pc (Pro Win10, i7, 64-bit Office) is updating OK. Update runs automatically.
In other words, my internet connection is fine.

I tried MS Fixit (two options) but NOT the aggressive option.
I also run the Update Agent - the file wuaeng.dll version 7.6.7601.19161 poster.

I have not yet run the system update readiness tool, but may do so after I have let the laptop mode 'Check updates' for a few hours.

    With our thanks, Ron

  • Windows Update crashes trying to check the computer

Windows XP Professional x 86 with all important updates

    Running as an administrator

When I try to go to Windows Update, I get a message saying that an ActiveX control must be installed to save your computer.  (The machine worked for awhile and used Windows Update.)  I click OK and then get a popup error message:

    ---------------------------
    IEXPLORE. EXE - Application error
    ---------------------------
The instruction at "0x04fe0068" referenced memory at "0x04fe0068". The memory could not be "written".

Click OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program
    ---------------------------
    OK Cancel
    ---------------------------

I tried several times and has continued to get the same sequence, so I said finally allow to do anything be installed from Microsoft.  Now if I try to go to Windows Update I got the same message appears on the installation of an ActiveX control, but do not receive the request to install it and IE 8 seems to hang or stand the memory error message.

    How to do this?

Method 1 - has not found anything to fix

    Method 2 - stage 1 - did not help

Method 2 - step 2 - could not find the validation ActiveX control

Method 3 - does not - problem was with validation

I also tried Mode safe mode with networking.  The control seems to settle and the website says: I have been validated.  However, if I tried to do anything whatsoever (Express, Custom, updates of the list, etc.) he says that the web page has encountered an error.

I rebooted and tried again.  Yet once, I invited myself to install the ActiveX control.  I left the guest sitting there and a little while IE later throw the same memory access error.  It was not the installation of the control which was not - it is an asynchronous with process.

Then I disabled all add-ins closed IE and has been able to use Windows Update.

    Add-ins that I disabled were:

    Name search
    Publisher Microsoft Corporation
    Status disabled
    File date Thursday, April 19, 2007, 14:10
    Version 11.0.8164.0

    Discuss name
    Editor not available
    Status disabled
    Version 6.0.2900.5921

It is a relatively clean system because it's just to run legacy applications.  I don't remember installing add-ins that do not specify an editor.

In any case by disabling all the cured the problem.

    Edit:

I've activated all EHF supplements I had disabled and closed IE.  I was always able to access Windows Update.

I have a new laptop with windows 7, it began to be updated on its own with 35 updates and its been over 3 hours and said not to shut down the computer, also says its configuration. I stopped it and when I turned it back on the same screen

The update process will take as long as it takes unfortunately. A major upgrade starts when you have sufficient time to undertake the task.

Is there a way to limit the maximum bandwidth that windows can do to its updates?

    Hello

It cannot be done by the operating system . There is a 3rd party software that can help control the use of bandwidth, but I don't know if it can control traffic updates (http://www.netlimiter.com/betas.ph p).

Otherwise 'play' with the time of the update.
