Windows Vista hangs after choosing the identity of the connection. works well in safe mode

I was able to start windows in safe mode, and then create a new connection profile.  However, Windows doesn't always starts normally.  Using the original profile causes the screen to go black after the "Welcome" screen  Using the new profile causes the screen to go to blue after the Welcome screen.  It's a laptop with nothing fixed.  everything seems to work fine in safe mode, so I think it's a matter of profile.  There is no restore points, so I can't use system restore.  Any thoughts?

Hello Ripplemaker1,

I have to agree. This sounds like it may be some kind of malware in game.

I recommend you create a new thread in the forum security, privacy, and user accounts for this piece of the puzzle.

  • 64-bit Windows vista hangs after you run the update

    Hello

Last night I ran the update of windows on my 64 bit vista laptop, he said there are 2 updates important (I don't remember what they were) and 1 optional (for security essentials).  I chose to install them all, let run updates, restarted the computer when he was asked and then pinned the problem.  Windows starts up nicely, all my startup apps pop up like normal (things like security basics, steam, etc.) and, if I don't touch it, it looks fine.  Sometimes I can get as opening firefox, sometimes just moving my mouse t - it, but the computer just hangs.  I can still move my mouse (sometimes it turns in a circle, as the computer working on something) but I can't click on anything whatsoever, cannot Ctrl + alt + delete... my only way of l ' down made a difficult start.

I tried to use the tool of the previous version to roll back to before the update, the Wizard works well and said completing, but I still have the same question.  If I'm in safe mode or safe mode with networking, it works fine. I even tried to delete pending.xml to see if it was an update stuck but who did not (cmd said that there was no pending.xml found to remove)

Anyone know what this might be or how to fix it?  I'm fresh out of ideas

    Hello

Given that everything works well in safe mode which makes them a third-party application causes the computer to freeze.

    4. click on the Services tab, select the hide all Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable all.
    5. click on OK.
    6. When you are prompted, click on restart.
    7. after the computer starts, check if the problem is resolved.

If the problem is resolved to check what is the cause of the problem, referring to the link given below:

    8. in addition, you will need to uninstall and reinstall the software problem on your computer.

  • Cannot delete mp4 in windows vista, even after changing the property.

    Hello

I tried all the methods in the solution given in windows vista to remove off the mp4 files from destop. but each time, he said the necessary authorization.

I had changed the security for the property for full control rights. but always impossible.

can you please advice me how to do?

    Hi oscarpooh,

This only happens with MP4 files?

The following could prevent you from deleting the file.

Ø if you do not have the adequate rights for a file or folder, you cannot remove it.

O if not create you the file, you may not be able to delete it, even if it appears in the Public folder. If this is the case, you must ask the owner of the file to delete.

O in addition, you cannot remove a file (or the folder that contains it) if the file is currently open in a program. Make sure that the file is not open in any program, and then try again to delete the file.

    Why can't I delete a file or a folder?

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/why-cant-I-delete-a-file-or-folder

I suggest you try the following steps:

Ensure that you do not play the file when you try to remove it.

Step 1: Start the computer in safe mode and then try to remove

Start the computer in safe mode, to do this, follow the steps below,

Access the menu advanced startup options by turning on your computer and pressing the button F8 before Windows starts. In the advanced startup options select safe mode

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/advanced-startup-options-including-safe-mode

Step 2: The corruption of the file system prevents access to the file

You will not be able to delete the file if the file system is damaged. To resolve this problem, run the Chkdsk utility on the disk volume to correct any errors.

Run the disk check to repair bad sectors on the hard disk.

    a. Click Start, in the start search bar type cmd, right-click on the command prompt icon in the box programs and then click Run as administrator.

    b. at the command prompt, type chkdsk /f and then press ENTER.

    Now, type chkdsk/r

Note: CHKDSK would attempt to recover bad sectors on the hard disk, in the course of this process there are chances of DATA loss from that particular area.

Let us know if it works

  • Windows XP hangs after installing the new drive hard & software

My 20 GB hard drive was almost full and the computer (Dell GX240) has been slow, I installed a new 160 GB drive. After loading Windows XP, Linksys, McAfee, MS Office and MS Windows updates would crash randomly. Restart the system would allow him to run for a few minutes and then hang again.
I reformatted the drive and partitioned to 80 GB and then reloaded all programs above with the same results.
I reformatted back to 20 GB, loaded XP and Linksys and the same problem occurred.
It seems that the internet has something to do with the problem.
    Any suggestions?

The drive of 20 GB that I removed to install the largest capacity disk has been reinstalled after the failure of a larger. I am currently running on the same pc and the old drive. I have another drive of 20 GB that had XP installed on it earlier. Thinking that I might try that one that I started to load some of my other programs operating and when I installed Office 2007 for household use and selected updates online blocked system shortly after. The problem is therefore not only on new facilities. The reader that I use currently a Office 2007 is installed and it works fine.

What is the largest disk that will handle XP? I heard it's 137 GB, is it true? If I can make it work how would you recommend I have partition the drive of 160 GB?

    Thank you

XP can handle drives of 1 TB to NTFS without problem - it's the motherboard on computers more elders who may have problems, that it is not compatible LBA.
There is really no need to partition the disk, but I would tend to opt for about 60 GB for the operating system and 100 GB of data and then move the folder My Documents (using the option in its properties) of the data partition. This allows to separate the data and programs and means a lot less work if a reinstall is needed.

  • Windows Vista black after login screen and Explorer has stopped working error

    Hello world

I have a very big problem. Whenever I connect to my computer that is running Windows Vista Ultimate Edition all I get is a black screen and a mouse pointer. I can use Ctrl + Alt + Del or Alt + Ctr + Shift lift the the Task Manager, and from there I can run firefox. Once in Firefox I can use the option open the file to find programs, do a right-click and then run them. But I want my back office. When I try to run Explorer from the Task Manager and then I get an error message saying it stopped and must be closed. I also keep getting an error message for something like 'Windows Search Protocol Host' or somesuch. A large part of time that this will just about a five-minute cycle in a style of window minimized down thing then the error message poopping upwards. I am also quite unable to open Control Panel or MSCONFIG. Whenever I try that they freeze and I get an error message saying that they have a problem and need to close. Also I did not change my software recently. In fact it worked fine yesterday when I was with Photoshop Elements 7.0. Another thing that can help anyone trying to find an answer that is in most of the forums help I saw people talking about going into regedit (something I CAN open it) and put the shell on explorer.exe. Mine is already set to explorer.exe. It is also something else that many videos help and forums have said I should close explorer.exe in Task Manager process tab, then run it again. I don't have an explorer.exe in the processes tab and when I try to run it I just get "WIndows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close."

Please help people, I'm going nuts without a desk job.

After said that from the safe mode screen (not optimum mode recommended 1280 104 60 h)

    Help me solve this problem.

    Thank you

It is not a Windows problem.  It is a problem with your monitor.

Your screen has a maximum resolution... maybe note 1280 x 960 with a 60 Hz refresh.  When you start mode without fail, the resolution of the video card is forced into a mode that will support virtually any monitor (640 x 480)?.  This is done to allow recovery in case you accidentally set your screen resolution to something that is not supported and you end up with a white screen.  When your monitor detects this less-than-optimal resolution from your computer, he takes it upon himself to post a notice on the screen informing you that you will get a better screen if you adjust the display resolution on your computer to match your monitor.  Maybe it's not possible in Mode without failure, then look at your manual of the monitor and the settings to see if there is a way to disable the warning message.

  • laptop stops shortly after the start, but works well in safe mode / command after chkdk or ckdsk/r

Problem 1: There are months, my two year old Toshiba Satellite L655 s5096 started losing charge the battery even when it is plugged.
Sometimes, the problem was solved by using a different wall outlet. I replaced the battery, but eventually the problem comes back.

Problem 2: at the same time that the problems loading starts, Windows has stopped booting normally. Sometimes repair or restoration leads to a normal start, but sometimes I run Chkdsk/r (Chkdsk sometimes the only works [!]) Mode through safe mode w/Command Prompt.

Problem 3: There are two days of problems 1 and 2 reappeared, but a few minutes after that Windows starts, my machine stops, even if I am able to run Wndows in Mode safe mode w/network.

I am correct in surmising that this isn't a motherboard (hardware) problem? I don't really want to have to replace this machine if I don't have to. Is this a Windows problem? Upgrade to Windows 8 would solve the problem? Or is it the result of the virus that escaped my Avast scans?

I'll install Windows 8 when I checked my automatic online data storage works.

    Hi Denise,

Thanks for posting your question in the Microsoft Community forum.

I understand that the computer shuts down shortly after starting. I'll help you with this problem.

    1. what security software is installed?

    2. are you sure the workload problem is not limited to a faulty wall unit?

    3. have you checked with the manufacturer of the computer if it is not a battery problem?

To resolve this issue, let us try these methods:

    Method 1.

You can create a new power plan and check if that helps.

Power plans: frequently asked questions: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ca/windows7/power-plans-frequently-asked-questions

    Method 2.

    Keep the battery power: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ca/windows7/conserving-battery-power

    Method 3.

You can remove the battery and connect the power cable from the wall cabinet and check. If the computer does not stop after the restart, then it might be a problem with the battery.

  • Firefox starts slow, but works well in safe mode with all the running addons - why?

Then... all of a sudden my Firefox (v. 38.0.1) is really laggy, with slow-to-respond buttons, scrolling etc. So I manually disable all addons, but nothing helped. Then I try safe mode and it works very well. Large. So I turn on my addons again one by one, until they are all allowed and it still works fine. My conclusion: it isn't the addons. What is what is the cause? I have updated all my addons and just Silverlight, Flash, Google updater, Shockwave and some others.
One solution would be for this mode - Safe with addons running - being my default start mode, but I can't work out how to do it. Is no huge problem because I can make Firefox work perfectly, but it's a little bit of your time.
    Any ideas?

In Windows 7, I am connected to my wireless but no internet network. When I start it in safe mode with network problem is resolved. The best way to understand what is causing the connectivity in normal startup problem?

Thus, a service blocking your internet connection, in this case. It is usually a firewall. Check your internet security and your Windows Firewall settings. If this does not work, you will need to go through the process of elimination to find which blocks the internet:

    1. Click Start
    2. in the search bar, type "msconfig".
    3. in the general tab: move the bubble in 'selective startup '.
    4. "load system services" and "Load Startup items" must be verified at the moment
    5. switch to the services tab
    6. Click on the box at the bottom for "hide all microsoft services".
    7. Uncheck all options
    8. Restart
    9. see if the internet works
    10. If this is not the case, go back to the services tab and begin to get rid of microsoft services, until you find what blocks your internet connection

    Hello

    You can try the following.

Shut down the laptop.  Tap away at f8 that you start the laptop to enter the Windows Recovery Console.  Use the arrow keys to select Safe mode and press ENTER.  If windows will load in this mode, on the Start Menu, click principally made programs, click Accessories, click System Tools and run the system restore.  Choose a restore point at least 24 hours prior to the issue of logon and then proceed to the restoration.  When you are finished, Windows will restart as normal in order to check if you can now connect correctly.

Another option if the above does not help is as follows.

Shut down the laptop.  Tap away at f8 that you start the laptop to enter the Windows Recovery Console.  Use the arrow keys to select "Start using last good known Configuration" and press ENTER.
