     Click the Start button, click the arrow next to the button lock and then click on restart.

  3. Choose your language settings, and then click Next.

  4. Click on repair your computer.

  5. Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.

  If your computer has preinstalled recovery options:

  1. Remove all floppy disks, CDs and DVDs from your computer and restart your computer.

     • If your computer has a single operating system installed, press and hold the F8 key as your computer restarts. You need to press F8 before the Windows logo appears. If the Windows logo appears, you need to try again.

     • If your computer has more than one operating system, use the arrow keys to select the operating system you want to repair, and then press and hold F8.

  3. In the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to highlight repair your computer and press ENTER.

  4. Select a keyboard layout, and then click Next.

  5. Select a user name and password, and then click OK.

  6. In the System Recovery Options menu, click Startup Repair.

  Are there problems Startup Repair cannot fix?

  Startup Repair cannot fix hardware failures or certain types of virus attacks. It is not a backup tool, so it cannot help you recover personal files, such as photos or documents. To help protect your computer, back up your system and your files regularly. For more information, search for "backup" in Help and Support.

  What happens if startup repair is unable to solve my problem?

  To use a custom sound when mail is delivered with Microsoft Outlook, Windows Live Mail, Windows Mail and Outlook Express:

  a. Select Control Panel from the Start menu.

  b. make sure you are in Classic view.

  c. double-click on sounds and Audio devices.

  d. go to the sounds tab.

  e. highlight the New mail Notification in the program events list.

  f. Select a sound in the sounds list, or use the Browse button to find a sound not in the list.

  g. click apply and OK.

• Windows Vista updates suddenly stopped working and the message appears to me to be the victim of pirated software - error: 0x80070426

  Message came that said my copy of Vista can be victim of piracy and go online to validate that, I did it because I have been using this OS for more than 3 years on a Toshiba laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit p2000 series. a few hours later my computer said it needed to restart and once it restarted it has a black screen with a message that he was trying to repair. It could not be repaired so he asked if ok to go to a restore point and clicked on Yes. I get the message that my copy is not genuine and my computer wants to restart once again, but I'm the delay of four hours.   2. on the Install Windows page, click install now.

  3. on the get updates for installation page, we recommend getting the latest updates to help ensure a successful installation and to help protect your computer against security threats. You will need an Internet connection to get the installation updates.

  4. on the Type your product key for activation , we strongly recommend that you type your 25-character product key in order to avoid problems during activation.

  I'm having a problem running Halo: Combat Evolved on Windows Vista. I can insert the disc and install the game without problem. The problem is that when I try to launch the game, I get error message saying "" unload the debugger, and then try again." I tried to install some of Halo patches to see if that would fix the error (for example, 1.6 and 1.7), but when I try and open the patch .exe file I get an error message telling me to go to a microsoft Web site or try to update the game manually. In addition, I tried to contact Gearbox Software to see if they could help me, all they said was to contact Microsoft.

  I suggest you follow these steps:

  Method 1: See if you can view another Web page

  To do this, follow these steps:

  Start Internet Explorer.

  In the top of the browser address bar, enter one of the following addresses:

  http://support.Microsoft.com

  If you do not receive a similar error message after entering one of these addresses in the address bar, contact the owner of the Web site where you see the problem. The website is maybe temporarily unavailable or other problems.
   
  If you receive the same error message, go to the next method.

  Method 2: Run the Network Diagnostics tool in Internet Explorer

  To do this, follow these steps:

  Start Internet Explorer, and then try to access the Web page that displays the error message.

  On the page that displays an Internet Explorer error message, click diagnose connection problems . The Network Diagnostics tool will run. When the tool has finished, it will notify if you one of the following results:

  He was unable to find a problem.

  If this resolves the problem, follow these steps to isolate the browser add-on that is causing the problem:

  Click Tools and then click Internet Options .

  Click on the programs tab, and then click Manage Add-ons .

  Click an add-on in the name list, and then click disable .

  Repeat step 3 until you identify the add-on that is causing the problem.
