Windows Vista, suspended from the update

Hello. I installed the updates last night. Woke up this morning to configure updates. Past stage 0 in step 3, and then is returned from stage 0 to stage 3.  Has been suspended in 100% of phase 3 now for at least 45 minutes. (I took a walk during that time, so don't know if it may be passed through the loop once.) Is it safe to turn off the computer and attempt to restart? The update process takes about 2 hours until this morning, not to mention the update before I go to bed last night.

Sorry, I can't provide because I can't access my PC to check their.

Ok. A took a risk and restarted (via the power button / stop) in safe mode, and then rebooted normally and it worked.

    help please

    Hi emiquestion:

Long 'check for updates...' crashes and slow window updates are a currently a problem common to many users of Vista SP2 - please see the workaround suggested, I posted yesterday over BluesBlaster WINDOWS VISTA 32-BIT updates.

Note that it is a temporary workaround and updates slow Windows will probably return each Patch Tuesday (the second Tuesday of the month) after Microsoft also releases a new batch of updates to security for Vista SP2 and IE9.  Since September 2016 Patch Tuesday updates are published tomorrow (13-Sep-2016), it would be wise to wait a day or two to execute step-by-step instructions posted on June 16, 2016, in m #l's thread of updates does not, he has been looking for updates for hours and save yourself a bit of extra work this month.  Dalai normally updates its list of Windows kernel mode driver (Win32K.sys) implemented to date required the same evening that the Patch Tuesday, updates are published by Microsoftto the http://wu.krelay.de/en/ .

  • Windows Vista - configuration of the updates/restart loop

    Hello
I have a Satellite L300D (model number PLSC0E), which I believe is running on Windows Vista Home Premium SP1, which is stuck in a recurring loop I'm not on. Once the computer is turned on, it proceeds to the point where it would normally provide the user to type their password, but instead displays the following message:

    * Configuring updates: stage 3 of 3-0% complete *.
    * Do not turn off your computer *.

and after a few seconds, stops, only to repeat the process.

Occasionally, he offers the following options after that initial start-up of Toshiba screen appeared:

    Launch Startup Repair (recommended) *.
    * Start Windows normally *.

Results "Start Windows normally" in the same message - I also tried all the options available when you press F8 to initial start-up screen (for example "Safe Mode"), and that did not help either and simply translates the laptop closed.

When 'Launch Startup Repair' is selected, it loads the utility successfully, but is unable to find errors and is unable to perform a "System Restore" to any date.

I also tried to use "System Restore" using a "Vista system restore" disk, but this also translates into a failure to the "System Restore" caused by a "catastrophic failure".

I know it's a pretty common problem which is supposed to be caused by a corruption by a Windows Update, but most solutions simply say to try 'System restore', which is not really useful if it doesn't work - I don't want to really try to back up data by using the command prompt, but I will not lose the data either , so reinstalling Windows is not really an option.

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you.

    Hello

It is understandable that new operating system installation is not an option for you, but what other chance you have at the moment?
In my opinion, your priority should be access to your backed-up data and how to save them.
You can somehow enter SafeMode (F8 at startup)?

    Hi Electrocuteud,

You have access to a Windows Vista installation disc? If so, follow the steps in this document to perform an InPlace upgrade. This will reinstall Vista without making any changes to the files and programs on the computer. Even if your data and programs must be safe, it is always advisable to make sure that you have a recent backup before major changes on the computer.

  • Remove windows vista without starting the operating system

Hello! IAM using windows vista. Lately, I just figured that the computer has the virus iam so think upgrade to windows7 and I want to remove vista first. Is it possible to remove vista without starting? Sombody help please! Thank you!

    Hello

    1. you must have an operating system to be upgraded; in your case vista

    You cannot delete vista

    2. an upgrade is performed from an operating system of windows in your vista case, unless microsoft advises otherwise; does not apply in your case

solve your problem of malware or clean reinstall vista 1st - then upgrade

Download update and scan with the free version of malwarebytes anti-malware

    http://www.Malwarebytes.org/MBAM.php

You can also download and run rkill to stop the process of problem before you download and scan with malwarebytes

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/anti-virus/rkill

If it does not remove the problem and or work correctly in normal mode do work above in safe mode with networking

    Windows Vista

    Using the F8 method:

    1. Restart your computer.
    2. When the computer starts, you will see your computer hardware are listed. When you see this information begins to tap theF8 key repeatedly until you are presented with theBoot Options Advanced Windows Vista.
    3. Select the Safe Mode with networking with the arrow keys.
    4. Then press enter on your keyboard to start mode without failure of Vista.
    5. To start Windows, you'll be a typical logon screen. Connect to your computer and Vista goes into safe mode.
    6. Do whatever tasks you need and when you are done, reboot to return to normal mode.

Here are the different ways to reinstall Vista

Contact the manufacturer of the laptop computer and ask them to send you to vista recovery disks to reinstall the operating system back as it was when you bought it

they do it for a nominal cost of $

also ask them if you have a recovery partition on your hard drive to get back to the way you bought

you would normally press F8, F9, F10 or F11 or Alt + F10 or 0 to start to start the recovery process according to the manufacturer

Ask them of the exact key sequence

or borrow a vista microsoft dvd; not a HP, Acer recovery disk etc

Make sure that you borrow the correct 32-bit or 64-bit microsoft dvd to your computer

they contain all versions of vista

This is the product key that determines which version of vista is installed

    Hello

give him a little more time

If it continues like that and you must stop and restart problems, try the following steps to solve this:

1st thing to try would be a restoration of the system in safe mode

  • Windows Vista crashes when configuring updates

I am currently using a Toshiba Satellite a305-s6916 with Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit. I had some problems with the computer so I decided to reinstall my OS and have a fresh start. I made the discs by the creator of recovery on the computer disk.

I reinstalled my OS, got all my files and programs on the computer, then started updates. When I installed Windows Vista Service Pack 2, my computer rebooted, went to the "Configuring updates 2/3 0% ' screen and stayed there." The circle of "loading" froze, I let it sit for an hour and finally started strong. He went to the same screen and froze, I rebooted it in safe mode, it starts normall (not in safe mode), and then asked me to do more updates. I let it reboot and he did the same thing, I rebooted again and he went to the same page with horizontal lines on the screen. I picked up in safe mode, it went through updates and seemed fine. I was using the computer and about 30 minutes later, he froze and made the lines again.

I decided to reinstall the OS again in case I did something wrong or had a virus transferred in my files. I did reinstall fees disks on my computer of friends (same model bought the same day). This time, I didn't install programs or documents with the exception of my antivirus (eset). I immediately started this updates a little at a time. In a first time no problem, but he did 72 updates automatically, it froze on a similar screen, I rebooted and it worked fine (successful installation). I then continued to make updates. I got an error 80070570 for some and it is resolved by following the steps listed on http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/en-us/itprovistasp/thread/829de30b-0634-4186-9172-90cd5776b48c forum. (I have listed these steps below as well) I did not receive any other errors failed after that. When I did the update to IE 8 that it froze again, I rebooted and it has started well. I did several facilities and had problems with one more (I forgot to save that one).

I went until I didn't have Windows Vist SP2 on the list to download. I left this download and restart it, it froze again on 2 of 3 0% screen configuration updates, I restarted, same thing, then restarted in safe mode. He started up very well.

Although it seems to work once I started strong each time, I know I shouldn't have these freezing problems.

    Any help is appreciated.
