  • Windows Vista won't allow me to open my files in its own window

I can't get Windows Vista change to allow me to open my files in their own windows. I was not able to do this since I bought this computer a few months ago. I thought I did something wrong, but I follow the directions to the T and it continues to open only the folders in the same window.  Y at - it something I'm doing wrong? I follow the directions for help and check open in its own window and yet it acts as if I do not change it... I apply and ok and press to apply to all the files and still nothing.

I don't know what are the instructions you followed, so here is a series of instructions on opening the windows, including how open each instance in its separate window: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/91587-open-folder-same-separate-new-window.html.  Read full article and follow ALL these instructions (there are parts you include in your post that are important to make it work - but then again you probably do not understand everything).

In the meantime, to open a specific folder in a new window, you can right click on the file and click on open rather than explore.  This will open the folder in a new window.  It's an extra step, but it is a workaround until you find the answer (if the above did not answer it).

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

  • Windows Vista won't allow Windows XP games to install on my computer

Why can't I install Windows XP Windows Vista Games? These systems are not retro-compatible? Please HELP Thank YOU

    Hello Randy Dickson,

Another option is to try to install the game incompatibility mode. To achieve this, you can right-click on the Setup file and choose Properties. Click on the Compatibility tab and select Windows XP Service Pack 2 to see if the game will then install with these settings.

Let us know if this problem is solved by any of the information in this thread.

  • Windows Vista won't update, never

We bought our computer to Fry and the Vista operating system has been installed in the framework of the purchase, but not guaranteed.  We have never been able to get windows update feature to work.  Unable to install the service packs or other updates.

Description of the update of the system for Windows Vista tool
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/947821

Microsoft has released the analysis tool system update to resolve certain conditions that could cause the installation of updates and other software not only not for work. You don't have to manually run this tool. This tool is offered automatically through Windows Update on computers that have a condition that the tool could solve.

If the tool does not help, then note: -.

    Logging

The system update tool creates a log file that captures any issues that the tool found or fixed. The log file is located in the following location:

    • %SystemRoot%\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
    • %SystemRoot%\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

These newspapers will be verified for more information and possibly post back with the content of newspapers.

  • Windows Vista won't start after installation of microsoft updates

I just install microsoft updates, then the computer is turned off and it does not load windows.  A box appears that says
Microsoft Visual C ++ Runtime Library.
This application has requested the execution to terminate in an unusual way.  For more information, contact the application support team.

The options are to click OK or close the box.  I tried both and it just keeps popping up the same box as above.

    Hi Mas_007,

Welcome to Microsoft Vista answers Forum!

I have a few here that might solve the problem.

A.) Firstly, I suggest that you start the computer in safe mode and check if you are able to boot without any problems, safe mode starts Windows with a limited set of files and drivers. Startup programs do not run in safe mode, and only the basic drivers needed to start Windows are installed that, follow these steps to start the computer in safe mode with networking:

To restart the computer using safe mode, restart the computer and press the F8 key for about four to five times. Appears in safe mode listed in the advanced options of Windows. Select Safe Mode, and then press ENTER.

    (B) I suggest that you perform a clean boot on your computer, to help troubleshoot error messages and other issues; You can start Windows Vista by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

The following link has steps showing how to perform the clean boot: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

    (1) perform the clean boot (check the link to perform the clean boot)

    (2) enable half the services

    (3) determine whether the problem returns

    (4) enable half of the startup items

    (5) determine if the problem returns

    (6) repeat the steps above until you find out which program or service is causing the issue

After you determine the startup item or the service that is causing the problem, contact the manufacturer of the program to determine if the problem can be solved. Or, run the System Configuration utility, and then click to clear the check box of the element of the problem.

Note: Please make sure that the computer is configured to start as usual by following step 7 of article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135.

(C.) I suggest that you perform a scan of the file system [SFC] checker on the computer, the scan replaces the failed system of files with the original files from version of Windows on the computer system, follow the steps below to perform a scan:

I suggest to empty the temp folder and later, follow these steps:

    i. Click Start > type % temp % in the start search box > press on enter > delete everything present in the temp folder.

    1. Click Start and type cmd in the box start the search.

    2. right click on cmd in the list programs and then click Run as administrator.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click on continue

    3. at the command calls, the following line and press ENTER: sfc/scannow

When the analysis is complete, test to see if the problem you are experiencing is resolved.

    Hope this information is useful.
Let me know if it worked.

  • Windows Vista won't Hibernate.

    Hi all

I'm on Windows Vista Home Premium and I have a problem with getting to stay in sleep mode extended computer.

I used to have Windows XP, and it was really easy. I had set it up as follows: display off after 15 minutes, standby mode after 30 minutes and hibernate after 45 minutes. I could manually put it in hibernation in the start menu.

I tried to get the same set up on Windows Vista, but I found it returns from hibernation in itself. If I select "Hibernate" in the start menu and then it will go into hibernation, but when I get back to the machine it will be still operational with the login screen again.

Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?

  • web pages of Windows vista won't load using multiple browsers.

    Windows Vista, 32-bit.
Card mother with an AMD processor - built Gigabyte in 2009.

Computer has worked for a few years, however, now, he can not complete the loading of most web pages.

Using multiple browsers (IE, Firefox and Chrome), we see the same behavior - web pages do not just end.
Sometimes update gets more of a page - but for videos (youtube and other sites) - it is almost impossible to load a full clip of more than 2 minutes.

    Ping/tracert works very well.
If passing through the VPN + desktop remotely, things work very well (this confirms that he is not the access provider when you use remote desktop, we are no longer local + all device drivers which could be the problem).
Windows Update, seems to work very well.

Download files from a web page, does not work.

The computer is currently connected via Ethernet (not wireless).
We have tried this on two different networks, so it is not associated with ISP.

We tried to connect a USB network adapter - thinking it was hardware related, but that has not changed anything.

We have tried to start in safe mode with networking - and it still does not work (so probably not the program antivirus - mcafee).

I was able to get a live LInux OS running on the pc, and he had no problem loading the pages/videos, ect - what is not strictly material.

I tried using some of the Netsh command to reset tcp/ip stack - but they don't solve the problem.

I do not think that it will fix a Vista startup repair, but I advise him to try to do.

I'm looking for any other suggestions in addition to switch to Linux full time.

    Thank you!

  • The installer of Windows Vista is not allowing to install or uninstall programs and my laptop came not with a CD/DVD installation, what to do?

A few days ago I had some problems playing Halo 2. The program itself has suggested that I have reinstall. So, I uninstalled Halo 2 without incident. However, during my attempt to reinstall Halo 2, I received the following Message: redists\vcredist, msi: the Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if Windows Installer is not correctly. Contact your support team. Click Retry to try to complete the step failed, or click Cancel to cancel the installation.

An error occurred when copying files in the background. An unexpected error has occurred while the application was copy files to your computer. Please try to reinstall the game, or contact customer support if that does not solve the problem.
After contact with the teams of tech games Halo wasn't any help, solution phone a 1-888-xxx-xxxx, a refund of my game. I am bypassing the conversation that happened because the individual basically blew me off the coast. Run the verification tool file system, basically said that I had a corrupted file, and you run the recovery tool. I did this, but without success. I tried to research on issues such as the best of what I know how, only to discover that I need to use the Setup Windows Vista Home Premium CD/DVD. This is another problem. When my wife bought this laptop, she received only a couple of recovery disks. So with my limited resources, I'm in this river with pots of Earth on one side and on the other hippos and and a thumb in a plum for a paddle.
I am in great need of a useful solution.
