  I have a Gateway laptop running 32-bit Vista SP2 I can't connect to wireless networks. One day, I had no problems and the next, I am unable to find all the networks.  When I try to connect to a network, I get a message that Windows cannot find any network.  When diagnosing why link is clicked I get an error dialog box "Windows Wireless Service is not running on this computer.   1 have you checked the State of the wireless autoconfiguration WLAN service in the services window?
  2. do you have any security software installed on the computer?
  3. have you made changes on the computer recently?
   
  We will first try to manually start the wireless service, i.e. the WLAN AutoConfig service. To do this, connect to the computer as an administrator.
  1. Click Start, type services.msc and press to enter.
  2. Locate the autoconfiguration WLAN service, double-click to open its properties window.
  3. on the general tab, change the startup type to automatic and click on the Start button.
  4. click on apply, then ok.
   
  Try to connect to the wireless connection and check the result.
   
  If the service still does not start, run the System File Checker tool to scan the computer for the corrupt system files and automatically correct. To run a sfc scan, try the steps mentioned in this link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833

  First, check with the WLAN service is started and set to automatic, if the WLAN service is stopped, I suggest you to start the service and put it on automatic.
  
  Method 1: Follow the steps to start the WLAN service.

  (a) click Start, type services.msc
  (b) select autoconfiguration WLAN service in the list, right-click on properties
  (c) change the startup type to automatic
  (d) click the Start button
  (e), click on apply, Ok.
  (f) restart the computer and check if it works.

  The majority of connection in Windows vista problems have been resolved by installing the latest version of the driver for the NIC obtained from the manufacturer.

  Method 2: Try to update the Wireless driver and check to see if the same problem happens.

  I have a Dell Studio XPS until yesterday worked fine. I plug in a memory (USB) card and that's when the problem occurred.

  Today when I started, it connect to internet via WiFi. The map shows in Device Manager and are passed through controls to enable the automatic. Wired connection is not a problem that's just a very long Ethernet run and WiFi was better. I have other computers on the network, there is a problem with what I think is that the registry is corrupted.   Please perform a clean boot mode, press Windows key + R on your keyboard and type services.msc. Access to services that are defined as disabled and edit them in the manual.

  Restart your computer (stay in a clean boot) and return to services.msc. Do not open any other application or browser. Any device that is set to automatic, but it is not started, change its startup type to manual. Any application that is manual, but is started, the change automatically.

  I also recommend that run you check disk, to check for any errors/bad hard disk sectors.

  Thanks for posting your concern. Let's see if there are programs or applications that blocks the internet connection by performing a clean boot. Please see the instructions under "Windows 7 and Windows Vista" in this link: How to perform a boot in Windows.

  We can also check if there are some files corrupt or broken update installed that is blocking the connection by running the file system (CFS) auditor. Please follow the steps below:

  1. press on the Windows key on your keyboard.
  2 type cmd, then right click on the result, then choose Run as Administrator.
  3. enter sfc/scannow.
  4. hit enter.

  I tried to install version 4.5, but was unsuccessful (it looks like I got lucky there).
  May be related or yet another problem, whenever I have Windows Live Mail, a ope 'preparation for the installation of window lights up for about 15 seconds before disappearing and then my mail opens.
  I don't have a Vista CD.  My HP provides on a partitioned drive recovery files.  There seems to be no usable on my computer restore points.

  What happened when you tried to install Windows install version 4.5? You get an error?

  Follow these methods and check if it solves the problem:

  Method 1:
  Auditor of files (SFC) system scan on your computer. SFCscanwill make Windows replace corrupted or missing system files on your computer.

  Scan sfc enforcement procedure:
  1. click on start, click principally made programs, accessories, right-click on command prompt and select run as administrator.
  2. click on continue or provide administrator credentials if prompted.
  3. in the command prompt window, type the following text, and then press ENTER:
  sfc/scannow
