  • All the data disappeared after the installation of updates! Help!

Hoping someone can help with this
Last night I installed updates KB961371, 973346 KB and KB 890830 for Vista Home Premium and they seemed to have been settled... my computer turns off fine. But when I started today and connected to my usual user, I got a pop-up message from the tool bar by saying "your user profile was not loaded correctly, you have been logged on with a temporary profile, cnanges do you will be lost when you log out." Check the log of the events for more information or contact your administrator." I then found that all my data was away from all my files (music, photos, Documents, analyses)... everything was gone. I then logged out of my user every day and in my admin to have a snoop around and all the data disappeared from there too. While in admin I also looked in the update section to see if the updates have not been installed correctly, but he said that they had been installed successfully.

I then rebooted, as I thought that it might help, but everything remained the same.

After the reboot, I clicked through 'my computer' and hard the news here on the disc wrote I have 89 GB of 147 GB free, which I think is consistent with the amount of data I have stored. This made me think that the data is always there somewhere, but I can't access it at all thanks to my user every day or my administrator.

As far as I can see, all the programs that I installed myself (such as Skype, open office software for my printer hp) are all present, but some of the shortcuts are out of the office. Also, when opening, they "behave" as newly installed programs. for example: Open Office writer guide me through a license agreement and registration rather than simply open a new document, and also firefox behaved in a way similar "new". Also, on commissioning today (after the installation of update yesterday), the window "welcome center" popped up, as did a window asking to save the "synaptics pointing device.

In short, the system "behaves like new", remembers none of my settings etc, but it is still a my programs installed and most of all, I can't access any of my data! I have a Toshiba Equium P200-178 (use vista Home premium service pack 1 32-bit), I use AVG anti virus (8.5) and Ad-aware software anti spyware. These are updated every day and I run scans on a regular basis (last analysis aware ad probably about a week ago) so I'm not sure it's associated virus.

Ask yourself what is this "temporary profile" and how to return to my old and my data! Help, please! Thanks :)

Difficulty of a corrupted user profile

After creating the profile, you can copy the files from the existing profile. You must have at least three user accounts on the computer to perform these operations, including the new account that you created.

    Good luck with it.

It seems that you do not have to back up your data regularly. A lot of people don't. By far the best incentive for them to change their habits is a disastrous loss of data. In this forum, we receive their calls for assistance with great regularity.

    To answer your question:

    • People do not back up their irreplaceable files regularly (e.g. weekly) will sooner or later lose them. It's only a matter of time.
    • People performing a major operation as an upgrade of the operating system considerably increases the risk of losing their data.
    • Those who backup their data without immediately pick up some examples of files on another PC often find that their untested backup is useless.

This current position illustrates the problem.

  • All the icons disappeared spontaneously (charging, home, folders, files exe in tabs, favicons)

I use the latest version of Firefox (as of 3 October 2014 impossible to verify what version because I don't know which button to press - see question) on Windows 8.1. I did not close the browser, but all of a sudden all THE icons disappeared. If I click on the blank spaces, functions will continue to operate (for example I can always close a tab), but I don't see what follows: Reload, Home, buttons etc. Bookmark folder icons; No icons on the settings tab; Exe in the upper right corner of the tabs; Favicons.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/tools > Modules > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is the cause of the problem.

  • Using the CD to restore Vista A300 without all the data be deleted

Hi there guys! After my drama wireless... I decided to go back to Vista a few months with XP... The thing is, I put my a300 vista recovery CD, and apparently the Toshiba Recovery CD erases all THE DATA on my hard drive...!

Since I'm on XP, now I can't use the second option IE. system recovery so I have to use recovery "out-of-box", which seems to erase all my data.

My hard drive has 3 partitions, C being the system partition. I want only to clear C and leave the other two safe for the sake of my data... but I chose the option that goes like "delete only the first partition" and the proceedings ended because of an error.

Is there a another way to install Vista using the recovery CD without formatting of my partitions D and E?

Thank you for your help in advance

Before you reinstall Windows, you should back up your dates on external media, such as a DVD or external HARD disk.

Then you can erase all data on the HARD drive and maybe you will get no error.

For more assistance, you must send an error exactly.

Have a frustrating problem.  Help is greatly appreciated.  Learned the hard way and lost a dwg important issue which was unrecoverable.  Bought a new drive external hard seagate.  Could not back up the entire system with software pre-installed.  Download acronis true image home 2011.  Tried to backup system.  Receive error when trying to backup messages; 'Delay to failure of Scripture; Reading of the sector; Windows was unable to save all the data for the file $Mft. The data has been lost.  Have tried many fixes.  Unable to disable write caching method (grayed out / unclickable).  Played regedit 'EnableOplocks' is not listed to select.  Attempted to run microsoft 'fix it' and got the blue screen of death.  Short hair out of my head.  Suggestions appreciated.

I don't know where Microsoft 'Technical support engineers' get their information.

Write caching without a doubt "does apply to external hard drives", but it is usually disabled to prevent to sort the problem you are experiencing.

I've seen several positions reporting to the same question that you do.  All of these positions were with SATA drives.  Is your Seagate eSATA drive?

The disc is recognized as an external drive in Device Manager?  In Device Manager, go to the drive properties dialog box and click the policies tab.  An external drive should have two options: "Optimize for quick removal" and "Optimize for performance".  An internal hard drive shows the options as gray (with 'performance' selected), but there should also be a checkbox "Enable disk write cache" under the second option.

What shows in your policies tab?

If I understand correctly, "writeback" or "write behind" is implemented by disc material or its pilot.  If the option is not available on the drive properties > policies tab, I would suggest to contact Seagate support.

If you use Start - type in search-> Sidebar box should still be crash - there may be a Gadget that causes

  • The windows 10 ISO file will still work to upgrade my computer to Windows 7 after the date limit to install the free version?

    Original title: upgrade Windows 10

I made an iso file for windows 10. I am waiting to upgrade until all the bugs are being developed. My question is: will the iso file of windows 10 still work to upgrade my computer to windows 7 after the date limit to install the free version?

The ISO will work after the date limit, but you can buy Windows 10 after the date limit, if you don't improve and activate it before that date.

Windows 10 is delivered as a service:

    Windows July 10 release - build 10240

    Windows Update 10 November - build 10586 (with many updates depuis.13,.29,. 36)

If you want to take advantage of the free offer, you must do so before July 29, 2016.

If you the newer versions are released before then, you can always download and install when it becomes available.

You could also install it now then download updates via Windows Update as soon as they are available.

    Task of pre-required

When you make significant changes to your computer for example updated operating system, you must always back up. See the links to resources on the backup by clicking the link for each version of Windows you are using: Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1

    then

    then

    • Turn off (preferably uninstall) your Antivirus utility before you perform the upgrade.
    • Reboot several times, and then try again.
    • Disable the general USB peripherals (for example - smart card reader).
    • If you are using a SCSI drive, make sure you have the drivers available for your storage on a thumdrive device and it is connected. During the installation of Windows 10, click on the advanced custom Option and use the command load driver to load the driver for the SCSI drive. If this does not work and the installer still fails, consider switching to an IDE based hard drive.
    • Perform a clean boot, restart, and then try again.
    • If you upgrade to the. ISO file, disconnect from the Internet during the installation, if you are connected in LAN (Ethernet) or wireless, disable both, then try to install.
    • If you are updated through Windows Update, when download reaches 100% disconnect from the LAN (Ethernet) Internet or Wi - Fi, then proceed with the installation.
    • If this does not work, try using the. ISO file to upgrade if possible.
    • If you are connected to a domain, go to a local account.
    • If you have an external equipment, attached to the machine, unplug them (example, game controllers, USB sticks, external hard drive, printers, peripherals not essential).
  • Move the user off the system disk folders? Envy of all the data on E, so need to move directories user E. not individually, but in the world. If all new users, I create will have their user and docs folder on E.

Got a new laptop with win 7 home premium pre-installed. Using the language of win 7... I have decreased the volume of HDD to 55 GB.  Made new simple volumes. PS Microsoft: This backup/do imaging software, why don't we name the image so many can all be stored on easily in one place without having to go and rename it or move them elsewhere?

    Hello TomZork,

Thanks for posting on the Microsoft answers Forum.

In another forum, I found the instructions to move folders of users to another drive.
You can follow the post here. This is attributed to Jimmie R. Houts.

    Article:
You can move the entire folder C:\Users to another drive quite easily once windows is installed:

    1. Boot from the installation media and access the command prompt (I think you need to click on fix everything first)
    2. Use Robocopy to copy C:\Users to D:\Users: robocopy c:\Users d:\Users /mir /xj
      a. /mir says robocopy to mirror directories, this will copy all files and permissions
      b. /xj is very important, it means robocopy does not follow the points of junction. If you forget this, you will have a lot of trouble.
    3. Make sure that the files copied successfully
    4. Delete c:\Users
    5. Create the junction pointing d:\Users: mklink /d c:\Users d:\Users

That's all. I used this process for Vista RTM with no problems.

Here's an article that explains as well. Just use robocopy instead of xcopy as it does in the article in order to avoid possible ntfs permissions problems.

Update: because I discovered the hard way, I thought I would mention also that if you plan on switching "Program Data", or "Program Files" with this method, you will be disappointed to know that everything works as expected, but the windows updates will install is no longer. I don't know if this problem has been fixed in Win 7.

With the foregoing, it is not a Microsoft forum or Web site so you will have to use at your own risk. I also recommend to do a system restore point before making any changes in directories that you can then go back to a previous state.

Please reply back and let us know if these suggestions help you to solve your problem, then to benefit others.

    Sincerely,

  • After having saved HP, all the sounds disappeared

It asked me to update my Bios (?)  A few weeks ago. Yes, I did. Later, I noticed the laptop was strangely like the internet would be cut frequently. I went to save the laptop for a moment before the problem happened. Bandwidth works fine now, but all the sounds disappeared. I checked for problems using 'Help' suggestions, but he tells me that everything is fine. The sound is output from the headphones or the internal speakers.

Can I have supported it until before the Bios (?) has been updated.

The laptop is a HP Pavillion (about 2 years) using windows 7 and Norton 360 (which I ran scans to try to find a problem as well)
    Any suggestions?

Thanks much for the reply. The model would have helped! haha. (it's a HP Pavilion)

  • Is it possible to recover all the data after format win 7?

I think that I have to format my windows 7 because it might not work properly.

I can't access any data now.
    I have backups.
Can I got my data back after re installing windows 7?

Yes you can recover your data after formatting it, but ideally you should not do it this way because the process takes some time.

Download Ubuntu Live CD and you can boot Linux directly from the CD without losing all the data, then you can transfer your data on an external hard drive without losing anything.
The Live CD allows you to boot from the disk, and even if Windows does not work, your files are still there and are accessible using this method.
When you insert the Ubuntu disc, select "try Ubuntu without any change to computer"
Once you have made a backup of your files, you can reformat and reinstall Windows.
If you have already reformatted your drive, then download Recuva to recover your files.

  • Replacement of the main computer, don't want to lose all the data synchronized.

I use Firefox Sync with multiple devices at work and at home. My main computer, which is the original pc all data from first and I use to add new devices, is my work laptop. I'm being transferred across the country and no longer have this laptop.

I need somehow put up my home pc or my new laptop to work as the new main computer, but I don't want to lose all data. Should I export all the data from the laptop the existing work and import it on the new pc, then installed Sync all over again on my other devices (Mercury browser for iphone and ipad)? Or is there an easier way to do it?

    Thank you
    Jake

Hello, first of all please create a backup of your profile of your work pc folder, so that you have your data available in all cases: back up and restore the information contained in the profiles of Firefox

I do not think that there is something like a 'primary' feature in your accounts sync - all devices need to be at the height, you can simply delete your old laptop to sync & add the new laptop to the account:
Go to firefox > options > tab sync on your old laptop. Please make sure you as your user name, password of the account and the recovery key is known to you (you can access the recovery key under 'manage accounts' "-write it down if you haven't done so already '), then click on separate device in the Synchronize tab.

You can then add your new laptop to work on behalf of sync existing either by coupling a device while you're close to your pc at home or with your user account, password and recovery key.
