Windows XP default icons 3d 2d icons changed

Hello world

as the title says, I have a very weird problem. As you can see from the attached images, my folder and drive icons have changed since the default icons in Windows XP 3d to 2d icons old rustic. However, some of the files are very well, while most are not.

I tried to change the default one below, but nothing folder icon display does not. Some other icons in there are very good, while some also produce the 2d problem.

I tried searching the Internet for this but it is futile.

Thank you all for helping me!

Hello

I saw that he pointed out that you could solve the problem simply by starting in safe mode, opening session to the affected user, wait a few minutes and then restart in normal mode. I have not tested it myself but it seems easier to try than the following suggestions, then you might want to try first. To start in safe mode, press F8 twice a second immediately after the ignition until you get a menu b & w, select Safe Mode from this menu with up/hit and seized arrow keys. Don't worry strange messages or the appearance of the screen when he finally gets to the opening scene of session.

If the above fails, take a look at this thread...

If this fails as I have a look at these KB articles...

You can disable hibernation if it is enabled and you do not...

When you Hibernate your computer, Windows saves the contents of the system memory in the hiberfil.sys file. As a result, the size of the hiberfil.sys file will always be equal to the amount of physical memory in your system. If you don't use the Hibernate feature and want to reclaim the space used by Windows for the hiberfil.sys file, perform the following steps:

-Start the Control Panel Power Options applet (go to start, settings, Control Panel, and then click Power Options).
-Select the Hibernate tab, uncheck "Activate the hibernation", and then click OK. Although you might think otherwise, selecting never under "Hibernate" option on the power management tab does not delete the hiberfil.sys file.
-Windows remove the "Hibernate" option on the power management tab and delete the hiberfil.sys file.

You can control the amount of space your system restore can use...

    1. Click Start, right click my computer and then click Properties.
    2. click on the System Restore tab.
    3. highlight one of your readers (or C: If you only) and click on the button "settings".
4 change the percentage of disk space you want to allow... I suggest moving the slider until you have about 1 GB (1024 MB or close to that...)

Empty the temporary Internet files and reduce the size, that it stores a size between 64 MB and 128 MB...

-Open a copy of Microsoft Internet Explorer.
    -Select TOOLS - Internet Options.
-On the general tab in the section 'Temporary Internet files', follow these steps:
-Click on 'Delete the Cookies' (click OK)
-Click on "Settings" and change the "amount of disk space to use: ' something between 64 MB and 128 MB. (There may be many more now.)
    -Click OK.
-Click on 'Delete files', then select "Delete all offline content" (the box), and then click OK. (If you had a LOT, it can take 2 to 10 minutes or more).
-Once it's done, click OK, close Internet Explorer, open Internet Explorer.

  • Windows XP: desktop icons changed to the same names, but retained their original functions

    Hello

I know that put at the point before, but the problem was never properly solved. I have Windows XP. While I was changing the name of one of my Office Word Document files yesterday, all of a sudden all my desktop icons changed under the same name. I can't tell you how it happened. 'My computer', 'My Documents', 'Trash' 'Internet Explorer', 'Adobe Reader', 'Corel Photo House', "MS Paint", "HP Solution Center" and eight other program launch icons, as well as 12 document records and 25 files of Word document on my desk, all had the same name change that I'd just been undertaken with one Word on my desktop files. Each icon has yet launched the successful operation or properly open to its original content.

I called my friends in the Geek Squad to two different Best Buys and they had never heard of him. I called Microsoft Corp. in Washington State and spoke to someone there. He had never heard of this before but found a couple of reports, one in 2006 and one in 2009. He said that he asked around the House Microsoft and if he could find an answer, post it on the forum.

No one was able to tell me how it could happen and no one could tell me how to fix it.

I then, on my own, done a restore of the system in two days. He restored the original names on all the items that I have listed above and it restored the original names on all 12 desktop file folders. But it does not restore the names under the 25 Word document files. Those that I had to open individually to see what they were and then rename them manually the original name. Would enjoy to hear your opinion on this.

    Pete Speth

    Hi Pete,.

I tried what you wrote... Select all the files, rename one file and all the files are renamed automatically - as I thought - but for a change of my computer, my network places and My Document obtained renamed the sting that it represents in the registry! I tried CTRL + Z file names seem to be restored, but not for the default icons!... Seems interesting...

  • Windows 7 all icons changed to Word icons

Hello, yesterday I connected to my computer, then I started firefox and Word popped up, when I tried going on other things, the word pops up again. All my games on my desktop and icons is now Word icons.

    Regrad thomas.

Looks like you may have a virus or other malware. Get your updated antivirus program and boot into Safe Mode. Note that some viruses can hide from your normal antivirus program, so you really need to scan in Safe Mode. To enter in Safe Mode when you turn on first, press F8 on every seconds until you get the menu, and then select Safe Mode. Then run a complete system scan.

If that suits him fine. If this is not the case, use system restore to go back to an earlier date at the beginning of the problem. To run system restore, click Start-> programs-> Accessories-> System Tools-> system restore. Click on the box that says show more restore points.

    -

You can check the corrupted system files. Open an administrator command prompt and run SFC if the above does not help. Click START, and then type CMD in the search box, right-click on CMD. EXE and click run as administrator. Then, from the command prompt type sfc/scannow.

    -

Finally if all else fails, you can look at the rather cryptic system event log. To do that click on start-> Control Panel-> administration-> event viewer tools. Once in Event Viewer system log-click and scroll entries looking for these "error" with indicator see if you can find guidance on where the problem may be.

When you get your system in good working condition, I invite you to back up your system up to an external hard drive and make it regular periodic updates.

    Hello Farell,

Thanks for posting your question on the Microsoft community.

Thank you for details on the issue.

I suggest you try to restore a previous version of the file and check if that helps.

Previous versions are copies of files and folders created by Windows backup or copies of files and folders that Windows automatically saves as part of a restore point. You can use previous versions to restore files and folders that you accidentally modified or deleted, or which have been damaged. Please follow these steps:

    a. right click on the file and then click on "restore previous versions."

You will see a list of the available versions of previous of the file or folder. The list will include files saved on a backup (if you use the Windows backup utility to back up your files) as well as restore points.

    b. before you restore a previous version of a file or a folder, select the previous version and then click on 'Open' to make sure it's the version you want to view.

    c. to restore a previous version, select the previous version and then click on "restore".

    d. click apply and ok.

    I hope this information helps.

Windows Vista system icons are stored in 'C:\Windows\system32\imageres.dll '. HOWEVER, because these are stored in a .dll file you can access them except through the programs, they have been made. (in other words, you cannot copy them)

  • Why the Word icon changed on just this computer - new Word icon with an area gray at the bottom left with a diagonal bar or a pencil?

Last week, one of our machines (34 bit) Vista has begun to view Word files by an icon which ranges from normal Word icon.  This strange Word icon has the normal Word icon with a gray area at the bottom left.  In the grey area is a diagonal bar or a pencil.  (Too small to see clearly).

It seems to behave like a normal Word document, but the icon is different.  When double click on the file, it opens Word application normally.  It prints as expected.  If I find a Word file on the server, the icon of the file word seems normal.  Once I move the computer, afterwards, the change icon.  For some, it changes shortly after I saved the document on the new computer.  Sometimes, the icon does not immediately change, and sometimes it does.  Sometimes, the icon changes after the updating of the computer.

I was told what happened after an update of Microsoft, but I can't check.  This computer has a Word 2007 (which has been updated to Word 2003 several months ago) and is running on the Vista operating system.

We tried to restore the computer to last week, but he did not.  Message:
