Windows xp home edition I get SP2 if I access not updating windows? I just ran a recovery disk

I have just run a recovery disk and cant accesss windows upgate. Can I get SP2 for XP Home Edition so {can get SP3

Preliminary work:

Download the installation files from SP2, SP3, IE8 and Microsoft Security Essentials, which is an effective antivirus/antimalware program. I prefer to keep these (and other useful files) on a USB key, but this is optional. Here are the links to all the installation of four files:

http://www.Microsoft.com/en-US/Download/details.aspx?ID=28 (for SP2)

http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?ID=24 (for SP3)

(You can TOTALLY ignore the message "intended for it professionals"!)

http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&ID=43 (for IE8)

http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/products/security-essentials (for MMS)

1. physically disconnect from the Internet. Also unplug all unnecessary devices!

2. temporarily disable the automatic updates. To do this:

Start | Control Panel (switch to Classic view if not already selected). Automatic updates

Select "Turn off automatic updates" and click OK.

3. install SP2. Restart TWICE.

4. install the SP3. Restart TWICE.

5 move to IE8. Restart TWICE. (Note: it is important to let IE at the level before the upgrade to SP3 IE6.) After you are in SP3, then you can switch IE6 to IE8).

6. install MSE.

(What happens very often is that someone has their software antivirus running as they try to install SP3, which often translates into chaos! "This is why it must be done after installing SP3 and IE).

7. make sure that firewall Windows is activated (it should already be):

Start | Control Panel | Security Center

(Now you can physically reconnect to the Internet. Update Antivirus program.)

8 visit Windows Update to download and install only the critical security updates. Restart each time you are prompted.

9. reactivate the automatic updates.

ADDENDUM:

If you currently have a trial version of Norton or McAfee, hold off on the updates for now and let me know which you have!

I tried recovery disc to order from my laptop from the hp Web site but can't find it. I'm in a fix what to do now. Please provide me with as soon as possible. Desperately waiting for your answer

    Hello

Here's another solution, that you could use.

Before you try the following, make sure that you can always read the character product activation key 25 on your label Windows COA (5 blocks of 5 alphanumeric games).

An example of a COA label can be seen here.

You can create a Windows 7 installation disc yourself using another PC - just download the good Disk Image ( it must be the same version that originally came with your laptop - IE Windows 7 Home Premium ) from the link below and use an app like ImgBurn to burn the ISO correctly on a blank DVD - a guide on the use of ImgBurn to write an ISO on a disc is here.  These Images are clean and a well respected source, however there are only limited versions available.

    Images of Windows 7.

Use the disk to perform the installation, enter the activation key of Windows on the label of the COA at the request and once the installation is complete, use ' 'phone Method' described in detail in the link below to activate the operating system -this made method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who want to just have a new installation of Windows 7 without additional software load normally comes with OEM installations.

    http://www.kodyaz.com/articles/how-to-activate-Windows-7-by-phone.aspx

All pilots additional and the software, you may need can be found here.

    Hello

Contact the computer manufacturer and ask them to send you to vista recovery disks to reinstall the operating system back as it was when you bought it

they do it for a nominal cost of $

    http://eSupport.Sony.com/

also ask them if you have a recovery partition on your hard drive to get back to the way you bought

you would normally press F8, F9, F10 or F11 or Alt + F10 or 0 to start to start the recovery process according to the manufacturer

Ask them of the exact key sequence

or borrow a vista microsoft dvd; not a HP, Acer recovery disk etc

Make sure that you borrow the correct 32-bit or 64-bit microsoft dvd to your computer

they contain all versions of vista

This is the product key that determines which version of vista is installed

  • New Windows 7 booted from the recovery disk appears not all hard disks?

So basically, I used my recovery disk. re installed windows very well. But my second hard drive is not displayed. Also, I think that one of the drives are slower, then the other. So which driver should I use as primary and who should I use for backup? Here it shows that 2 drives are not recognized. Ask any more questions if necessary.

    Thanks for the help.

You have one disk (disk 0) with three primary partitions. The 1st is the partition that Windows installed on it. The second partition seems to be empty (open Windows Explorer to check for this, do not forget to set options for the Explorer to view the hidden files and folders) and the third is the "system" Partition which should not be assigned a drive letter.

Not sure why your recovery disk created as 186GB 2nd partition but if its empty that could be deleted and the Windows partition extended in "Unallocated" space formerly occupied by the second partition.

Note: I would call the manufacturer of your PC support team to find out the answer as to why you have this second partition (that you have assigned the drive letter E: to) before doing anything to this partition.

  • Windows 7 installed on my recovery disk - can I remove it?

HI - Windows 7 settled on my recovery disc and left intact the Windows Vista. There is not enough space on the recovery disk to install the updates. So... is it safe to delete all my recovery disc and start? I don't want to do is to find I deleted versions, of course. (I assume that Vista is on my C drive, but how can I be sure?)

    Hello

Assuming that the C:\ drive still has Windows Vista installed. You can start on Windows Vista and format the drive D:\, who has installed Windows 7. Then, you can start a new installation of Windows 7. In this case, if you try to install Windows 7 without formatting the drive D:\, will give you an option to select the operating system you want to start with, because there will be multiple operating systems installed on two discs.

During the installation of Windows 7, make sure that you select the right drive on which you want to install the operating system.

Installation and reinstallation of Windows 7

Let us know if that helps.

  • I forgot the admin password Windows 8 may not have passed the login screen no recovery disk

Start the computer to the admin login screen.  You have forgotten this password and do not have a recovery disk.

While your application may very well be authentic, it could also be interpreted as a surreptitious attempt to bypass Windows security.

The only recommended method to retrieve an administrative password is to login as another administrator account and reset the password to a known unknown. If the administrative passwords could be easily overcome, there would not be much point in them.

It is in the terms of use and the Code of conduct of the responses of these forums to request or provide assistance to the cracking a password. Do not forget that you agreed to these and review if necessary.

You can view the policy of Microsoft about lost or forgotten passwords (KB189126) for more information on what resources are available to you.

The only advice I can offer you is either log - on another user with administrator privileges and reset your password to a new, use the password reset disk that you created when you set up your account, start guessing what the password could possibly be or reinstall Windows by default.

  • installation of Windows XP Home Edition, 32-bit SP2, cd purchased from retail store

Last week I didn't buy a desktop pc on eBay and I just discovered that there is NO operating system. Four years ago, that I bought a cd to upgrade in a retail store at the level of Windows ME to Windows XP, because Windows Me support was over. I went and bought a box of upgrade (with cd, directions, product key, etc.) in a local store. I installed it, and after completing my computer memory was much too little, then, I went and bought a pc brand new with Vista already intalled by the manufacturer of the computer. Back to my question...

Can I now use this cd to install an operating system on my computer, I bought the week last in eBay? The pc on which I have installed initially that XP has been scrapped and lifting off of me more than 4 years ago. And also, if I can use it, immediately install SP3 from Microsoft? The computer) that will be installed (which used computer eBay I bought last week) will be used as a 'save', because in a few days, ironically, I get a pc brand new.

I would appreciate any input from anyone. Thank you!!

    neabsco3268

Unless you have a CD to install Windows 98 or Windows ME authentic to insert in the drive when asked to do so during the installation of Windows XP, then you won't be able to use the Windows XP upgrade disk since you won't be able to prove that you have a Windows license qualification to be upgraded. • Reinstalling Windows XP Home edition, cannot get into the BIOS (Satellite A60)

I would like to install wxp pro, but I can't in the BIOS, so it will boot from the cd. Is there any way how to?

    Thank you very much.

    Hello sepilo

As Daniel said already, you can enter the BIOS settings using the ESC key at the beginning upward. You can also start the recovery procedure using key C. place the recovery CD in the DVD device, press the power button / stop and hold C button. After a few seconds, the recovery procedure will start automatically.

  • How to format c drive Windows XP Pro? I'm trying to downgrade to Windows XP Home Edition OEM CD. Request CD will not allow.

    Hello

I have a PC with XP Pro, which I think is not a legitimate copy of the operating system.  So, I am trying to install an original OEM OS from Windows XP Home ed. Paraphasing error message: "Cannot go back," I want to start by reformatting the c drive.  However, I don't know how to do so on Windows and in the 'Run' dialog screen.  I tried to start the configuration of the screen (F8 on reboot) but the CD player says "disabled", and I can't seem to activate.  Any help that works will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.
PS: this is my first time using this forum, so I hope I can find the answer if someone answers

I think xp reformatted drive what ever you choose to install on. A good work-around: do you do a fdisk. Set your bios to boot from floppy. Go to the directory and use the format command. That it will scan.

  • Windows 7 Home Edition, taking a lot of time to install updates

I shut down my computer last night and Windows said it would install 47 updates. When I got up at 7:00, it's always the update number 8. Is this normal?

Some updates are small, but some are large.  If one of these updates was to SP1, we can take an hour or two.   But assuming that it was more than 6 hours between the time that you have already told him to stop and 07:00, which seems like a very long time. What is your C: partition and how much space does?   What CPU you have (for example, Pentium dual core Intel I3, I5, AMD A4, E7400, etc.)?
