Windows XP mode alert message...

I'm using an Acer laptop, windows 7 barely one year old; just upgaraded for windows 7 Professional; downloaded and installed windows xp mode and virtual pc mode... I have a lot of games for windows xp; followed all instructions step by step on installing xp games, only install one so far, installation says 'successful' but came into xp mode to play the game and an alert box came up saying "could not create the display device. DirectX is not available {1002}' I clicked on Yes during the installation of the game and even went and downloaded from the web site itself, but I get the same megs.

Here are my system specs.   Acer Aspire 7736Z, 64-bit, Pentium (r) dual-core, 2.20 GHz, 3.00 GB...

Can someone help me and tell me what is happening here and how to fix it?   Of course, I'd be happy of it... miss my games... :-) Thanks in advance.

Windows XP mode (Virtual PC) is not designed for players. "Windows XP Mode is best suited for older applications business such as accounting, inventory and similar applications. Windows XP Mode is not intended for consumers because much of consumer applications requires a use extensive physical interfaces, such as 3D graphics, audio and TV tuners, which don't work well under virtualization today. "(http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/support/faq.aspx)

You should play games XP in your environment from Windows 7, if necessary, install and play with these two compatibility settings (right click on Configuration and resp. game.exe > properties): 'For Windows XP SP3 Compatibility Mode' and 'run as administrator '. Some games need special corrections or methods to make them run, though, as too much has changed since their original release. Other games work without all these questions.

Survey questions and responses posted in this forum led me down to the BIOS from my card mother Gigabyte GA-P55-UD4 and bore down the menu MB Intelligent Tweaker (M.I.T.) to M.I.T. current status, CPU Core Features Advanced submenu submenu level, I find that the entrance of virtualization technology is not there (according to the explanation given in the user manual this "enables or disables the Intel virtualization technology. Virtualization, improved by Intel virtualization technology will allow a platform run several operating systems and applications into independent segments. With virtualization, a computer system can fundtionas multiple vitual systems. ([Default: enabled]).  My processor is an Intel i5 750 2.66 Ghz, and according to the website of Intel it has this feature.

As XP Mode worked successffully for 3/4 days there are 3 possibilities of my judgment (according to my interpretation of the information provided by the various parties concerned, namely, Microsoft, Intel and Gigabyte):

    1. an other update of Windows 7 OS has created the problem (cannot discount anything at this point, even if it seems unlikely to me that an operating system update could interefer with the BIOS).

    2. the Intel CPU sends is no longer the right information to the BIOS (everything is possible with a new processor, because it has failed in some way).

    3. something went wrong with the BIOS, and he is grateful is more characteristic of virtualization technology thus paralyzing XP Mode (I've not updated the BIOS and the date is July 2009 memory).

I have an urgent job to spend and will now attempt to go back to Windows XP on a new generation of PC, so I can with my work.  Keep the OS Win 7 on a separate hard drive and check later if something changes in order to restore an XP Mode as and when I have the time.  Could be February until I get time to restart Windows 7, perform the necessary updates and check the status of the XP Mode, maybe earlier if I continue to get up ridiculous o'clock in the morning to work on this PC.

I'm not impressed with the stability of Windows 7 at the moment, I did a total rebuild of the OS 3 times so far to get a 'stable' operating system and slowly introduce new programs/essential devices in order to ensure that the operating system is stable before presenting the next program/essential device. With almost every day (sometimes several times per day) updates for Win 7 it may take 2/3 days to ensure if the current operating system stability is maintained and restore back to a point before the last update the operating system to test if the update has destabilized the system (if the automatic updates are on) This is a follow-up question to know if an update has been reinstalled after you perform a restore as well and one nevers knows if the last update may fix a current problem).

For the more sophisticated technically than I (have analyzed hundreds of entries in this forum, and it is obvious that some people respond to many Questions that are asked here), thanks for your time and effort to do this, it has been a great help to read some of your answers.

On a note of material, I had to learn the hard way on a new PC or another without an operating system loaded, it is essential that the keyboard must be plugged into the PS/2 on the motherbaord port if you want to tell the machine to perform certain tasks for example load on the CD/DVD, as well as on this motherboard BIOS only recognizes the keyboard into the PS/2 port until the operating system it says that it is plugged into the USB Port.  Spending a day talking about 'experts' (a definition of self derogoratory, I used to use when I worked in a technologically oriented environment and was regarded as an expert in my field, is "an expert is a drip under pressure'.) No insult intended for those who don't use their time and expertise to help people like me in this forum).

Would appreciate any guidance on this question of fixing and will frequently check on this issue and others before out in this forum, I added my comments to. Please note that updating the BIOS will be the last thing I try, could use giving the PC to the vendor of the components I built since then to determine if the CPU or BIOS is at fault When I have time after completing my urgent work (I hope I can resvert of code in Windows XP - no immediate concerns with the data that all data are stored on hard disks distinct and saved on an external hard drive every day to capture any input changes (réexécutera backup before trying to load Win XP to ensure the external backup is in progress)) (, moving usually data user stored with the OS on the 3rd hard drive to one of both data on the disks [sites Favorites folder user and IE etc.]).

REASON for the LENGTH of this ENTRY: provide all possible information, after reading many other issues where those trying to help had to ask for more information.

    Hello

Welcome to Microsoft Windows 7 answers Forum!

You can try the steps below and check if the problem is resolved.

Here you need to Boot in the BIOS on the host computer and confirm that hardware virtualization is always enabled. If it is checked, then you must disable and restart your computer.

After restarting again to boot into the Bios and this time you you need enable virtualization and check if the problem is resolved.

  • Display driver hangs on the computer and the error message "display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver Version 306.97 has stopped working and recovered."

Original title: NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver Version 306.97 display driver has stopped working and recovered.

    Hiya,

I have recently installed Windows 8 Pro, installed all of my usual applications etc..
    The problem I've encountered is maintaining display driver crashing. Or have waiting periods. The exact error message reads;
"Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver Version 306.97 has stopped working and recovered."
Until now it expires randomly even when the computer is idle, and more frequently when I watch videos online. Also, watch a clip full screen on some sites like YouTube is ok, but on others, it is very laggy (updated maybe once per second the image) and the sound is out of sync.
I can't find a way to properly uninstall the graphics driver.

At least yours is working semi... I have the GTS 450 (uses the same drivers) and the mine does not at all... Stuck with the regular game pilot integrated ATM and can not all games... Microsoft told me to wait a few weeks and for the reminder and Nvida said 10 ways to uninstall and reinstall the drivers for same. Hope someone with to get a fix for this soon.

    Hi guys,.
Looks like this isn't just me.
Just an update, that I can not confirm it as a solution, but I have not encountered any problem (a little screenlag aside) since the installation of the drivers beta. For me, the beta version of the driver is 310.33, R130. The only other change to my system updates Adobe Flash version packaged with Google Chrome to 11.4.31X to 11.4.402 to eliminate serious problems when you watch the video in full screen.

    New edition;

    If you still receive the error message, try the following steps;
Has. try to perform a clean installation of the driver.
Download the latest drivers for your graphics card. Run the downloaded file, and select "Custom Installation". In the next screen, you will see a checkbox or similar labeled "Clean Install".

You can do so by visiting nVidia Driver Downloads (www.nvidia.com/Drivers). Automatically detect the right driver or download using the form. The best way in my opinion is to use the GeForce experience, who will do anything for you in two clicks and a reboot.
    B. close all other programs
It is possible that the error was caused by too many programs that need to use the resources provided by the graphics card/chip. It is also possible that a certain program caused a conflict that pilots crashed.
You can try closing some currently open programs one by one and see if the error persists, or restart your system with disabled startup programs and allow them one by one to find the culprit. If the error is too persistent to do the above, it would be easier to start in safe mode option.

    Hello

I guess that this is caused by the graphics chip, it is possible that caused graphics card driver problems related to bad entries in the registry or in the worst case the graphics chip could badly run.

  • Screen of Microsoft Update crashes Windows XP mode

I have Windows Virtual PC in Windows 7 Pro, and I test it with Windows XP Mode before I use it for Ubuntu Linux.

In the test, I went through the normal routine with Windows XP Mode, installation of updates; but after the first activation of Windows Update, after which, I installed Microsoft Update, the update screen freezes for 9 to 10 minutes, the message «Check if your computer has the latest version of Windows Update software for use with the site...» " until he goes to the next screen, 'Welcome to Microsoft Update'.  I also noticed that, even though the download process seems normal, the installation process is exceptionally more time that I expect anywhere from 1 to 5 minutes for each of the bigger files.

Is it a file in XP Mode which could trample the day opening screen, or is it one of my programs in Win7 that could be the cause (though I doubt it)?  I miss an ActiveX program or any program, by the way?  Or do I have too many?  Or should I simply rub the file in XP Mode, I installed and install a new one in its place, since I'm in the early stages of Windows Update?

Someone directed me to KB2879017 Cumulative Update for Windows XP.  Once installed, it updates automatic galvanized WinXP.  Once I added KB898461, Internet Explorer 8, KB905474 and KB892130, I was able to get more updates via Windows/Microsoft Update.  The update process wouldn't properly unless I installed these files in the order that I posted here.  I had to load KB2879017 from a USB flash drive.  The rest came through automatic updates.

  • Error Windows XP Mode: "device failed to initialize for mode video full screen.»

When I try to run an old MS-DOS application in Windows XP Mode, I get the following error in the system under MS-DOS 16-bit: "the device video failed to initialize for mode full screen.» I use Windows 7 Ultimate x 64 edition.

The program starts in mode text very well, but when he tries to enter graphics mode, the error message described above results.

It would seem that the emulation of the video driver in Windows XP Mode isn't quite complete as far as emulation goes. The application is an old one that was written in Borland Pascal 7.0 and used the BGI graphics programming interface. There is no equivalent version of Windows, and I would like to be able to run under Windows 7. He ran under a native install of Windows XP Pro, switch mode full-screen graphic as needed without any problem.

Is there something that can be done to make it work under Windows XP Mode in Windows 7? The emulator of map graphics of virtual machines may be adjusted/changed somehow to run full-screen graphic mode?

I had the same problem too, so instead of using the windows mode I downloaded dosbox and the programmaX interface. It's great for running applications in DOS on windows (all versions as far as I know.)

    www.dosbox.com

its pretty easy to install just choose a directory to install to. Then to install the interface you simply point to the directory where you installed dosbox. When you start the interface (programmaX), there will be a button to the top of the upper part called Assistant. Just click on the wizard button and follow the pages. If you want to create an icon for it in windows just goto tools... create a shortcut, and then click ok when the box is in place. ;)

  • Make a network monitor is running "Windows XP mode".

Since the upgrade to Windows 7, I had trouble getting Bandwidth Monitor Pro to work on it. The program launches but does not recognize the network adapter. If I run it under Windows XP Mode which shows successfully traffic inside the VM on the graph, but no traffic to my host computer of windows7.

How can I fix it? I've heard of something called 'transition connections' or whatever. Which is relevant to my problem and how do I do it?

Please don't suggest other bandwidth monitoring software. I tried a bunch of them. None of them compares to BMP.

I can't help you make your old software works with a newer version of Windows.

I realize that in your original post, you said that you didn't want advice to use another program, but nevertheless you could take at least one free Microsoft Message Analyzer and its predecessor, the network monitor.  If you don't want to use one of those, you might take a look at the Message Analyzer Team Blog for ideas or ask in the Message Analyzer TechNet forum.  There is also a blog for network monitor and a TechNet forum for it.  Even if work on the monitor network seems to be stopped in 2010, there seems to be some recent posts on the NM forum.

These forums seem to be the best place to get help for a situation like that you are facing.

  • When you use the Windows XP Mode integration, it fails; maintains a new attempt and finally I have to cancel

When you use the Windows XP Mode integration, it fails; continues to try again and finally I cancel it. The same newspaper for Virtual PC on the host computer has the following error message: Windows XP Mode integration error 'failed to connect in place inside the "Windows XP Mode" VM on channel 0 on the... named pipe endpoint XP, TCP port 3389 with the 0x8007274c error mode. This error occurs every time, but I don't know why he is successful a few times and sometimes fails. This question was in another post and mentioned the removal and resettlement components of integration, which I've tried, but it did not help. I also checked that I have the latest version of the integration components (v. 14.1.7600.16403). I have a separate instance of Virtual PC that I brought over my old XP machine and it was never a problem with integration. The problem with the image in XP Mode occurs also, regardless of whether or not the other Virtual PC image runs. Only the image of the XP Mode has this problem. I suspect it's perhaps a conflict of TCP port in the named pipe, but if so, I don't know how to solve. Thanks in advance to anyone who might be able to offer advice.

Thanks for the reply. I tried to reinstall the integration features in the past, but the problem has come back at a later date. A few days after I posted this request for assistance, I needed to log out of Windows 7, so I hibernated the XP Mode image. Then, I opened a session in Windows 7 and thought I'd give it a try once again, and it worked this time! I did nothing special. So hopefully that will happen in the future, just as it went and on the past few months. Enjoyed your attempt to offer advice, however!
