Windows XP Professional help... Cannot log on to windows.

Help!  Thanks for the reply... but it is all foreign to me... I bought the computer from a former place of work so did not any windows disk. I was unable to move forward on a blue screen that reads: a problem has been detected and windows has shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If it is the first time that you, ve seen this stop error screen restart your computer. If this screen appears again the following steps. Disable or uninstall the anti virus, the fragmentation of the disc or utility backup. Check your hard disk configuration and search for updated drivers. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

Technical information STOP: 0 x 00000024 0 X 00190203 0X82F42108 0XC0000102 0x00000000

Can't do everything above that cannot log on that I think I should do... but not sure that I am not IT savvy. I've tried rebooting and without success.

This basically means that I have to get the windows disc and reinstall? If so what do I lose all my docs photos etc... etc... th the computer?

Forward the response and thanks in advance.

Pete

When you start windows, before the XP loading screen is displayed, press F8, and then select Safe mode.  See if you start a computer desktop, if it isn't you can run chkdsk /f in command prompt.

If you cannot start in safe mode, you will need to reinstall (or try a repair installation) and Yes, you will lose this data, although there is a way to back it up.  You will need to download ubuntu and burn it on a cd and backup to external media.

  • Cannot log on to a computer in the domain when it is removed from the domain - Windows 7 Pro, just stopped working

We have a Dell laptop with the encryption used by the principal of our school at work and at home. At the office, it connects to the network via Ethernet. Yesterday, when he returned home, he received a message that it could not connect to a server approved.  His credentials have been cached in the past and still allowed him to open a session with the same user name and password.

Now, when the laptop is not connected to the network, I can't log on to the laptop computer as a domain administrator, it cannot open a session with his account and the local administrator account cannot log on (localadmin\laptopname).  When I tried to add a new local user by using user accounts in Control Panel, I get a message that the domain is not available.  This field is the name of the computer.  Manage user--> Add--> domain accounts--> go--> locations<-- the="" only="" option="" is="" entire="" directory="" (my="" domain). ="" actually,="" this="" is="" all="" i="" see="" on="" my="" work="" computer="" too. ="" when="" did="" this="" change? ="" i've="" added="" local="" users="" in="" the="">

The rest of Windows seems to work.

Biometrics does not for one of our accounts, but they have in the past.

I might add a local account for him to use only with the following command. At least this allows him to use the laptop at home, but it creates a new profile for him so he will not have access to the files saved under its domain account profile.

    net user USERNAME PASSWORD /add
    net localgroup administrators USERNAME /add

AFAIK what has changed is that he was just updates installation before returned home and when he arrived home, things no longer work.

    original title: log question.

When I try to connect my computer with XP operating system, I get this error message to: rund1132.exe and cannot log out.  How can I fix?

    Hi KERRYYX,

    1. Did you the latest changes on the computer?
    2. When was the last time it was working fine?
    3. You have security software installed on the computer?
    4. What is the full error message that you receive?
    5. Are you able to restart and shut down the computer?

It is possible that some third-party programs installed on the computer is causing the problem.

I suggest that you put the computer in a clean boot state and check if it helps.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows XP by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

See section to learn more about how to clean boot.

  • Cannot log on to windows Xp professional

My kid put a password on my computer and I forgot what it is.   We tried for months know that she used the computer.  We are unable to access anything on the computer because she forgot the password.   It's an old computer, but it has a lot of valuable information that I can't replace.

Don't be afraid, in the worst cases, that data will be accessible by inserting the disk in another PC. Certainly, if you cannot or feel not enough confidence to do it by yourself, you will need to provide a facility that can, ideally one that you can get a recommendation for.

In the meantime, the amount of advice that this forum can give is limited by our code of conduct...

If you are using XP Home Edition, the built-in Administrator account probably doesn't have a defined password. You can start in safe mode, where this account will be selectable when connecting. It allows to connect and change the password of your normal connection.

To start in safe mode, keep hitting F8 twice a second after turning on the PC until you get the start menu where safe mode is selectable by the up/down arrow keys, and then press ENTER.

If you are using XP Professional, try to connect using the built-in Administrator account. You don't need to do it in safe mode (although you can if you wish). If your normal login screen is a display of the user symbol and hit ctrl-alt-del twice to get to login to text entry. Type administrator as the user name and try a blank password.
