Windows .zip files?
If someone could please send me an email with the subject help it would be great! I need to change my status 'open with' my compressed zip files. It is currently set to Windows Media Player and I need to return to the default Windows Explorer. How can I do this? Thank you, Eric
Hi Eric73,
Check out and follow the file association fixes for Windows Vista
For the .zip file association:
http://www.Winhelponline.com/fileasso/zipfix_vista.reg
Download the REG file to your desktop.
Right click on the REG file and choose Merge.
Note that you must be an administrator to apply this hotfix.

How can I reset the default zip files to open Windows Explorer, and how do I retrieve the extract function? The proposed solution on the forum for users of Vista is having this problem applies to WIndows 7? Thank you!

Problem in opening the .zip on Windows Vista files.
I have, at some point, installed WinZip to open a .zipx file. Unknown to me until now, he put his self as the default program. Now that the trial of WinZip is over, I can more open .zip files. I've removed WinZip, and now, by double clicking on a .zip file, it tells me that the application was not found. I tried to do a system restore, but do not have a restore point from before the point of installation of WinZip. I would like to know how to restore the program that opens files .zip for the factory program. Any help is GREATLY appreciated, as I use it quite often the .zip files. Thank you all in advance!

Password protect Zip files in Windows Vista 64-bit
Hello
Windows Vista Ultimate allows me to send files to a compressed folder. I read several answers elsewhere that you can then open the folder and select "File--> Add a password...". "to add a password. However, I can't find it.
Can anyone help?
Chris
Hello
The ability to natively password - protect a zipped file was removed from Vista and Windows 7.
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/can-I-protect-files-or-folders-with-a-password
If you want to protect a zipped file, you will need to get third-party compression software that supports this.
Note: Using third-party software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the use of third-party software can be solved. Software using third party is at your own risk.

They are .zip files. inside are the mp3 files that I need to listen to. can someone help me.
Hello
You need to open ZIP files, which are compressed to make it smaller, then use the content
in the application appropriate - so if the audio or video content can use WMP.Compress and uncompress files (zip files)
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/compress-and-uncompress-files-ZIP-filesAlthough Windows has integrated ZIP, you might be more comfortable using a program
with more features (and works with different types of compressed files).7ZIP - free

Windows Photo Gallery does not open the zipped files
Photo Gallery Windows does not open the photos that are in the zipped files received by Email. He said: Photo Gallery can't open this photo or video. This file format is not supported, or you do not have the latest updates to the photo gallery.
This is expected behavior...
Unzip the file and open the uncompressed version. Or just open
the zip files and do drag the photos on the zip file and
drop in a new folder.then you can open. -

How to send a large Windows Media file - the file is 93.5 MB size. Tried to use winzip but him zipped file size bed still 93.5 MB which is too large to send via my hotmail account.
The max on most email providers is 10 MB. The only way that you could share this file would find a download site that allows to host this file. You can do a search for hosting sites and find one that goes on your needs. Once you download the file to the single copy of the site the link and give the person who you want to initially by email.

Windows 7 - not "extract all" option to open zip files
I downloaded a zip file and I don't have the option 'extract all' to open it. Or do I have to use an archive. I noticed this problem has been reported with Vista and there is a solution, but I didn't know if they would be the same for Windows 7.

Windows 7 cannot open zip files
I'm almost certain that, in the past, my Dell Inspiron 580 with Windows 7 could open zip files.
Last month I had to replace my internal hard drive and reinstall Windows from the disks that I bought from Dell. Now when I try to open a zip file I downloaded, I have an alert that says that Windows Explorer is unable to open it.
I see a lot of different programs, you can buy or download free, claiming to allow you to decompress the files. Isn't Windows supposed to be able to open zip se files?
Is there any downloadable for free, zip file openers that work with Windows 7 64 bit?
Hello Jumprun,
Compress or decompress files isn't windows features. Software of third party such as WinZip, WinRAR, 7Zip are used to compress and decompress files. You can download them by clicking the program you want to download.
WinZip
WinRAR
7zip I hope this helps!
