WindowsXP - Re-partationing C:\

Hello
I use Windows XP Professional ver: 2002, Service pack 3. I intend to increase the space by Re-partitioning using PartedMagic C:\ / other software. I used the Windows backup utility and took the full backup (as well as the State of the system). In which case I destroy my C:\ partition in the process, I'll be able to restore my C:\ using the back-up that I took? What else do I need to take care of? Is there a better way to increase the C:\ without disturbing the existing installation?

Thank you
Shiv

Hello sandrine,.

Thanks for posting your query in the Microsoft community!

I understand that you want to know if you can increase the existing partition. I will try to help you with this question.

Microsoft recommends not shrink or expand the root directory because this could result in no boot.

You can perform partitioning using the software of the 3 part.

WARNING: Using third-party software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the use of third-party software can be solved. Software using third party is at your own risk.

-You can restore the data that you backed up in the case if something goes wrong.

Please mail us if you have any other questions, and we will be happy to help you.

It will show you how to boot from the recovery media 1 disc and the process began.

It's a lengthy process, do not touch the keyboard or interfere with it, unless specifically requested on the screen, it will reboot several times on its own, when it's done to recover it will ask you to set up the pc as it did when new.

  • 15-G019wm H.P.: disk Partation hard deleted by the Service Center

I have a question I sent my HP laptop off to Wal-Mart after big missed RESTful because my hard drive was not, I just will again and now my hard drive recovery partation disappeared. I guess they put in a new drive but they removed my hard drive partation is there a way to do it because if I want to recover my laptop then I can't do it because the partation disappeared.   I tried to do a restore with the C drive, which is where he says recovery not found. What can I do to get back my recovery partation or put on a record.

That you should consider, instead of a recovery partition, use a third-party imaging/restoration as Macrium Reflect.  Macrium reflect (MR) provides a FREE version that can be used to image and restore partitions or drives together.

What I recommend is the following:
    (1) download and install Macrium reflect (MR)
    (2) run M. and choose the option: "Create an image of the partition (s) required to backup and restore Windows" to write a full backup to an external drive or USB key
    (3) use the option to create a CD or a USB startup key

NOW, you have the means to restore a full system that works for the external hard drive or USB key in a few minutes.

My HP Pavilion zv5240 running WindowsXP SP3, its power off suddenly by itself after running for 20-30 min. eventhough works on economy mode. What is going on?

This could be an overheating problem.  If your CPU overheats, then the power will suddenly cut to your computer.  Boot safe mode starts with less processeses and running tasks and so your computer can run more fees.  Since you get 20 to 30 minutes, the way to check this is to download and run freeware 'CoreTemp '.

It displays the temperature of your CPU and show you if it is not too hot before you stop.

The two main causes of overheating are fans of CPU does not and a build-up of dust in your computer that acts as a blanket and causes overheating.   If overheating is your problem, open the case, check the appropriate fan and buy a can of compressed air to blow the dust bunnies.

Another possible cause is bad RAM (memory) memory modules.  Try to remove and re - insert your RAM modules.  There are also tests of RAM, you can run - although they tend to be CPU, so you won't know if you have a RAM problem or a problem of temperature.

  • WindowsXP Professional SP1___version 2002__

I have Windows XP Professional version 2002 SP1

    Download Windows XP Professional SP1a?

    My product key will work?

I do not understand your question. Ask yourself if you can download another slightly more recent copy of XP for reinstallation? If I interpreted your question correctly, the answer is 'no '. There is nowhere you can legally download XP unless you have a MSDN or TechNet subscription (expensive). However, your computer is badly out of date. XP is up to Service Pack 3 and there have been many updates of Windows passed. If the computer works fine, then you need to catch up with current levels of patched XP. If the computer does not work well, you need to give a description of it and its problems to get door help.

  • partation local and global index

    Hello

I want partation tables in my database.
Can someone tell me what exactly the difference between the local index & glabal.
is there any link which can give me more informetion about the same.

    Thank you

Local index is the index that is created on the partition key column name.

    Hi Anand

Just to be clear, that a local index must not necessarily be created on partitioned key column, it is simply automatically partitioned in the same way as the underscore.

If it contains effectively partitioned key columns is completely optional.

  • Conversion of WindowsXP on the BACK

I want to remove Windows XP from a Pentium computer works perfectly, reformat the hard drive and re - use the system as a system of DOS games.  So far, I have removed most of the data files and most of the Windows System.  I have a startup MS-DOS disk reformatting, but the c: drive containing XP operating system is not recognized.  How can I get BACK to see the c: drive so I can use the FDISK command to reformat?  The PartDisk commands do not work because XP is on the basic disk C:boot.  I wouldn't throw a perfectly functioning, but the useless machine after 8 Apr 14.  Thank you.

What type of hard drive you have, IDE (PATA) or SATA? If it is SATA, you may be out of luck, but if the BIOS is not set to IDE mode you can try to set than the first.

FDISK has an option of writing MBR...

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/69013

Something like DBAN or Killdisk can wipe all the partition information that should allow FDISK to exploit. I don't know if either as a diskette version, I've only seen versions of optical media, so unless you have another PC to burn on you might have to Google for an another floppy drive.

If the hotfix is not installed, how can I get it to install?

Your question is too vague.  Most of the life themes battery by Windows XP tasks occur only in some computers - and yours may or may not benefit from all the suggested fixes.  In addition, some of these plots have been released a long time ago and were likely incorporated into a later Service Pack.  You should have installed Service Pack 3 for Windows XP 5 years.

If you want to use your laptop as a portable device, I suggest you buy a battery - not the cheapest possible one - and use it for a while.  If you experience shorter than the normal battery life, you can ask for help then or read through the results of this research--> http://support.microsoft.com/search/default.aspx?query=battery+life+xp&x=4&y=8&mode=a&spid=global&catalog=LCID%3D1033&wa=wsignin1.0
