With the help of semaphore with a Global Variable - correct use?

Hi all

I looked in the use of global variables and in my case, it seemed with the help of a semaphore is the appropriate solution.

In my case, I use a global variable to store the State of the system. Asynchronous two with screw environment (same VI) will follow two COM ports to see if they get a ' login:' command prompt. If the COM port is associated with Alpha, Charlie, or Echo, it increments by 1, and if it is associated with the Bravo, Delta, or Foxtrot, is incremented by 2 GV. If the GV is 3, the rest of the code will run. In this case, it must be a port COM A, C or E; the other should be B, D or F.

A VI parent is called inside a loop. He works for the first loop. He never adds up to 3 on the second loop, however. I can't understand why. Please let me know if my code is a poor use of semaphores, or if there is debugging I can try.

I'm still relatively new to LV, so I'm sorry if my screws are difficult to read. I created this in LV2011.

Thanks for any help!

The output of my time looping (wait GV = 3) goes to the structure of the case on the bottom right (clear SGS, PasswordEntry, etc.), so the GV get indeed consulted by the upper case structure right.

Your right upper case structure does not run until your time ends in a loop. The while loop does not stop until the total is equal to 3. Where can increment you the world besides structures case you cannot yet?

Have you tried in your point culminating execution of the VI in order to see how they are actually running?

Another problem that I see. Assuming that your first while the loop is going to end. In the structures of your case, you lock the semaphore. But you can never unlock the semaphore unless you have the right combination of conditions that allow you to get to the case that unlocks the semaphore. The conditions are based on data that are read before the start of the case of structure, which means that data will not be read and changed until it all ends. You have the timeout of your lock semaphore connected on one of the cases, but your semaphore lock can never timeout because you do not have a value on his entry time-out. I think you have a situation where you can lock a semaphore, then arrive at a situation where you can not unlock, then wind locking up of your cold code.

I don't really think that you need a semaphore at all. I think you can protect reading and writing functional your overall using a global variable, i.e. the motor action. Overall, I think you need to rethink the architecture of your code.

    Hello Kawa,

    When you say variable overall, do you mean to say the element of application level? If Yes, then you need to refer to that element, the same way that you reference level page elements using the: syntax.

    Change your query to something like this...

    Select '

  • Global variable problem using as reference file

    Hi all

    This code is trivial, but illustrates the problem that I have. I want to open a file with vi a, dynamically open vi B, pass the reference file in vi B, vi B to close, and then close the fiel with A vi. VI B is designed for SAMPLES continuously and add it to the file. Unfortunately I can't implement this solution because it seems that global variables do not work for the file references (!). Thank you!

    You have a race condition in this image. The global variable refnum to could be read the file write before the opened file has been fortunate to write a valid file for the other reference copy refnum of global variable. You should have a thread open to write it directly. If you want to store it in the global variable as well, then branching off there this direct wiring.

    (I guess that's where I store global variables)

    At this point, global variables are not accessible with the above configuration. Was the only one I can get this working is to cut and paste the Globals in each item of form1. #subform [0], which of course defeats the purpose of global variables! I intend to have a lot more items so wouldn't duplicate global variables for each of them!

    Can someone show me how to do this?

    Any help is very appreciated!

    I haven't used Formccalc, but I thought it would be the same regardless. Insert a script object to the top of the hierarchy and call it, for example "sco." Paste the Globals. Then refer to variables of the extent that sco. Cityscope_Sydney_CostUser1, etc. Make one

    App.Alert (sco. Cityscope_Sydney_CostUser1);

    one of the fields. If the debugger is activated, it will tell you if it cannot resolve the reference as "sco. In this case, you may need to use the som expression to reference the script object, for example

    var scoScript = xfa.resolveNode ("topOfHierarchy.sco");

    scoScript.Cityscope_Sydney_CostUser1

    But if as close as possible to the top of the hierarchy above should work.

  • Is it possible to put the results of a query in a variable to use in the bean class?

    Hello, I am using JDeveloper 12.1.2.0.0

    I like to keep the result of my queries (the method that I created in the AppModule) in a richeTableau or another type of variable, so I can get results and I don't have to make unnecessary after queries. I don't think that the query is the problem but keeping the results.

    I tried to do in using this:

    public String testVFactSales (String conditions) {}

    PreparedStatement query = getDBTransaction () .createPreparedStatement ("" + "select * from v_fact_sales"+ conditions, 0 ");

    ResultSet rs;

    Outcome of the result set;

    Result of the richeTableau;

    String result = null;

    try {}

    query.setString (1, conditions);

    Query.Execute ();

    Query.Execute ();

    result = query.getGeneratedKeys ();

    Query.Close ();

    System.out.println ("result:" + result.toString ());

    return result.toString ();

    } catch (SQLException e) {}

    e.printStackTrace ();

    }

    Return ' ';

    }

    As you can see, I have already tried a few solutions, but so far I have only errors (cannot convert or null exception, when I try to put the result in a richeTableau in my bean class)

    Any ideas?

    It is very important for me, because it would improve the performance of my project a lot.

    Kind regards

    Frederico.

    Although the issue is not 100% responded, I used the idea that Shay told me, where you can create a method in your AppModule to set your where clause!

    Good luck to everyone who has the same problem.

  • With the help of & quot;-& quot; in a variable without calculation

    This should be easy... when I have a # in the output, it will cancel out, I add another (ie. color = ##ffffff). But I have problems with the same type of thing if I use a hyphen / minus sign ' - '.

    I have three variables that I'm trying to merge as:

    #variable1 #-#variable2 #-# $variable3 #.

    so the number when I do CFSET should be something like

    1234-5678-9000

    I tried to add another - sign and it calculates just that too.

    But if I try to set it as a variable, it makes the calculation instead. I hope this makes sense :)

    Is there a way to cancel the - so it is not calculate and rightful place in the variable? I use CF 5.

    Thank you!

    You are treated as numeric values with the negative operator
    bewteen them, so it is interpretting the expression literally.

    What you need to do to conclude that what you're trying to do is to
    create a string. If you need to string-autour delimiters of the
    expression, or the use of the string concatenation operator:

    "foo bar".

    or

    "foo" & "" & 'bar '.

  • Highlight the area of text disappearing when a variable is used in this text box

    Dear all

    I spent ages setting up a quiz in Captivate 8 allows partial scoring on several slides and then provides feedback to the accepting of a quiz on correct/incorrect responses. Because the partial scoring options from Captivate are so limited, I had to make abundant use of the advanced Actions number of (a) the number of correct answers (assigned to a variable called "c1") and then (b) if some but not all the answers are correct, display a text box stating the number of correct answers. The text in the text box is simply "You got $$ c1$ $ right." and results in the text box saying 'You're right' 2 If c1 is 2.

    However, for some reason any highlighting in the text box turns off if I put a variable in there. For example, if the text box has the normal orange highlight given to partially correct captions, this nail does not appear if I include the variable, but it does not appear if I simply say "Partially correct.". Does anyone know how I can fix this you problem? I have searched previous questions on this site and on the internet but couldn't find anything. I also tried to clear the cache of Captivate on my computer, but it does not help this problem.

  • Setting the value of an element of Application (defining a global variable);

    Apex 3.2.0.00.27, I need to initialize a global variable to 0 to implement a variable to test to see if something on the page has changed. Will update to 1 when some lists of selection on the page are changed. Read through a few similar questions and answers within the forum, as well as blogs and other sites. So, I think that what I do is the way forward in this regard. Unfortunately, my point/global application initialization is not past yet. Here's an overview of what has been implemented:

    1) has created an element of demand, G_CLASSIFICATION_ID_NEW in the shared components.
    (2) created the Javascript (JS) function called by addLoadEvent area header html page so when the page is loaded, the application global/G_CLASSIFICATION_ID_NEW element should be set to 0 with the following JS and using AJAX and htmldb_GET:

    < script type = "text/javascript" >
    function initVars()
    {
    Alert ("before the initvars get");
    get var = new htmldb_Get (null, $x('pFlowId').value, null, 22);
    Get.Add ('G_CLASSIFICATION_ID_NEW', 0);
    gReturn = get.get ();
    {if (gReturn)}
    Alert (gReturn.value);
    }
    get = null;
    Alert ("after get initvars");
    }

    Alert ("before the call to the initpage");
    addLoadEvent (initVars ());
    < /script >

    I used the htmldb_Get successfully to populate other global variables and processes on request with onchange THAT JS call in the attributes of html form elements select list on the page. Later, I check the globals via the Session view and research on elements of Application. Unfortunately, I'm missing something, because my G_CLASSIFICATION_ID_NEW never gets filled when I load the page. The Alerts popup every when the page is loaded, so I know that the script is running when the page loads. alert (gReturn.value) is not defined. And, of course, the G_CLASSIFICATION_ID_NEW to 0 does not place.

    I tried the htmldb_Get with her call for a process of application and without (null value). What I read, you should not need to call an application process to have the get.add of the value of the global variable. Here again, this could be where I'm wrong. However, as I mentioned, it works for the other functions called from an onchange to fill a part of the application, but the page has already loaded when the onchange (s) executed. They can work because the page is already loaded when the onchange is called. My point here is that my other on application processes are NOT set or modify global variables at all. The globals are preparing with the get.add (< element app >, < value >) part of my other JS works within the HTML header area. So I'm inclined to believe that I don't need 'application_process = < some_odp >' set parameter, but if it is not true, please let me know. If so, what should be in the application process-that is to say, what would be the purpose of the get.add (< application item >, < value >) if I set the global variable in the application process on because it's the only thing I could think to do within an application process on for this?

    If someone can point out what I'm not understand or, failing to do it here, that would be great. I am doing fine with APEX, but don't consider myself a guru with it immediately. I'm certainly not a JS/AJAX guru, and when things like that, go astray, I get bogged down because I'm not sure of the problem. So, I hope that you gurus who monitor this forum can get going in the right direction.

    Thank you
    Bob

  • How to use the global variable in the table target?

    Hello

    I am trying to load several files into a single interface. the data is loaded successfully. 92. the files are there. for this I used variables and package.

    My requrement is 92 files of data loaded into the target table. I want to know what data from file.

    to this I added a column (filename) to the existing target table.

    If I used joints (not same condition), its totally wrong. all file names are coming.

    Please see the following screenshots.

    exit; target table.

    err26.jpg

    in fact in the target table. first 10 lines are coming from file.i.e first _ACCOUNT_LIMIT_511.TXT. but all the files names are coming.

    I'm confuse. After the first data file inserted then insert second data file. in that all file names are coming. Please help me.

    I thought that the global variable is preferable to identify the data came from which file.

    to do this, the global variable is used in the target table. I don't always have my exit.

    Please help me.

    Hello

    You can use the same way, how you use the project variable, just you have to do a thin is #GLOBAL.variable_name for example: #GLOBAL. SMART_AL_FILE_NAME_S

    Note: Make sure you that while you use one variable overall in interface, indicator should be staged as you chose above the screen

    hope this helps you

  • Functional Global Variables: an indicator can be used instead of a shift register?

    It is a simple question, but I can't find an answer to it. The model agreed to a functional Global Variable is to use an uninitialized as in this example shift register:

    ('Référence IN' and ' Reference to "is actually a pile of references.) There is also a "Se Refnum" case, which comes the straight through the tunnels shift register.

    My question is, why can't we do store the indicator data? It is much simpler to use a shift register (IMHO a non obvious way to store global data!):

    The case "Se Refnum" does absolutely nothing. Other functions such as erasure of data can be implemented just as easily. The advantage of the FGV to help avoid race conditions is maintained because you always use the VI to access the data.

    JonP says:

    Not so much, the Inidicator can happily live outside the case structure, together and Clear would be just assign different values.

    If you have only a case structure, the indicator could not live outside of it. In order to maintain the indicator data, your design requires that it is not written in for a case of Get. If you have an exterior structure deal that decides on 'Get' or 'set or clear' and (in the case of "Set or clear") contains the terminal of the indicator and a classiquee case that decides on 'Set' or 'clear '. However, I would consider this a design below using the standard template of the FGV.

    The difficulty with retrieving the value if you want to do a read operation / writing change. But LV provides many ways to retrieve data from an indicator (one you don't mention is the 'Value' property), do you mean that's all "incorrect"?

    Yes (I mean that they are all incorrect).

    You could hack your way around the design to work with a single structure of matter and the terminal of the indicator being outside using a method to read the value of the indicator and through a tunnel to the structure of the case through wiring for the tunnel of writing indicator in the case of 'Get '. However, who will require a local Variable or value of property node. As I said, these (I only mentioned the local Variable originally) are not good choices for performance and scalability. If you are not aware of the functional differences between the terminals, local Variables and nodes of property value, refer to this article (obviously advantages/disadvantages such as redraw objects on the front panel are not relevant here).

    I guess you could say that indicators should only be written, but it is difficult to be pure!

    No, it's not, just use the classic design of the FGV!

  • Why LabVIEW example projects using Global Variables?

    I'm puzzled. I've been pretty good programmers LabVIEW talks (including some who work for the OR) and came away with the impression that Global Variables should, as a general rule, be avoided, with functional Global Variables (alias VI Globals) generally preferred for "local memory".

    I have studied some of the example distributed with LabVIEW, 2012 and 2013, in particular the proposed acquisition in real time and am struck by the use of Global Variables, where I'd be inclined to use instead a FGV. For examples, to stop all the loops on the RT target, the overall "All the RT loop Stop" is defined; 'Constants' of configuration (such as timeouts, Streme network names, the names of the journal folder) are kept as Globals; Streme network endpoints are stored in Globals.

    [Note - there is a weird spelling of the second word of the network Streme, above - when I tried to post with the correct spelling, I got an error message saying this word is 'not allowed in this community".] I apologize for the offense, but I must confess that I do not understand what the problem with the help of the spelling of this word...]

    Why use Globals in these cases, rather than write a bunch of VIGs to hold these data? Note that almost all these Globals are 'Read' essentially (written once when a resource is acquired, for example) or "Read Only" (treated as if they were a constant). Indeed, read-only variables can be written as a Subvi with only an output terminal, acting as a (visible, due to the icon) constant.

    I can see advantages to this approach. On the one hand, VIGs can have error bounds who run the data flow (I just spotted a bug "data flow" in code, I am developing that is based on this model, to read configuration data to an XML file in a world and in the same VI, Global wiring to a "use - me" terminal, but with no guarantee that I'll read the overall after I write it).

    It is, I suppose, a matter of 'speed' - perhaps Global Variables are 'faster' than VIGs (especially if the VIG 'sits' on an error line). My thought, however, is that this difference is likely to be trivial, especially as these VIGs (or Globals) tend to become "occasional" calls (with the exception of the indicator 'all the loop Stop' which is called once per line).

    Are there other arguments or considerations that make a Variable global to a better choice than a VIG? Is there a reason that LabVIEW developers put in these start-up of projects LabVIEW?

    I have to ask, how do you use functional Global Variables? Like just a Get and Set? If so, you can use a global variable.

    Yes, globals are faster and use much less overhead. At the summits of CLA in recent years, we talked about using globals. The most common use is for Write-Once-Read Many and writing-never-Read Many with configuration data. It's a good idea to use globals with the constants that can change on you. It turns out that the world will have the same performance as a constant in this case. This is done so that you don't have 1 place to edit the 'constant '.

    The rule on "Globals are evil" actually goes back several years when NEITHER had the huge "people of the country are bad" vendata. But NEITHER explains well how to do things properly. So I found people, instead of using local variables, using the value property node. It's even worse because the property causes thread swaps and kills your performance. It wasn't until I shouted to people to use wires and shift registers I have seen improvements in the way in which people wrote their code. So people are always riffling in the use of globals and decided to use FGVs with the EEG and fixed rather cases. But this does not solve the problem of the conditions of race with critical data and you cause an additional burden.

    So from my experience, I use globals all the time for configuration data. Yes, you must be careful about the race conditions. But as long as you understand that it is a common and useful practice.

    I would not use a global variable for data that are constantly changing (use registers to offset or Action motor) and/or processes that have critical sections of code (use a motor of Action).

    NOTE: I use the definition of Mercer to FGV (a Get/Set only) and motor Action (many cases which specifically affect the data).

  • Addition of new global variables

    I change code that uses one or more global variables in a global folder of vi. I would like to add a few variables more and potentially change what exists and ask them to be in the same globals vi. I can easily add a variable of the same type by copying and pasting a variable of the same type on the Panel before the globals vi, but I can't add variables of different types.

    This post comes closest: http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/how-to-associate-existing-global-variables/m-p/1079535/highlight/tru... but I did not understand this line:

    • Add FP (there may be several elements in a global variable VI)

    I read some of the warnings against the use of global variables as it can cause race conditions / lead to General illegibility. I'm curious what is recommended if global variables are used as the constants that are defined at the beginning of the program. In general, my LabVIEW code gets pretty unreadable if I have a lot of threads for all of these constants. Is there something better?

    Thank you!

    Kristen

    Hello kllurie,

    The scenario you mentioned (using globals to replace duplicate constants) is probably the best use cases for them - conditions of race etc. problems arise when they are used to the stream or in several scenarios of the writer. Readability is perhaps a matter of concern, because it is not immediately clear what could be reading from or writing to a global when a thread would suffice.

    With regard to the modification of the globals vi, all you need to do is drop objects on the front of the range of controls (right click).

    Kind regards

  • APEX 4.2 translate data 'function and Global Variable declaration '.

    Hello everyone,

    I use APEX 4.2.1.00.08 and I wonder if there is a way to translate "Function and Global Variable declaration" textarea. Any other script text box is available for translation, but not this one.
    I know what the code is loaded on the header, but may contain important alert messages of global functions.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Grandmaster,

    "Function and global variables declaration" contains the JavaScript code, that is why it is not wise to include in the standard translation process.

    In my opinion, you have several options to access your translated messages:

    -) Use Application-> Substitutions or
    -) Store your message in the form of component shared-> SMS and and assign it to an application with the APEX_LANG element. Api MESSAGE (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E37097_01/doc/doc.42/e35127/apex_lang.htm#CHDBCEAB)

    In 'Function and Global Variable declaration' use substitution syntax to replace the value. For example:

    var myDeleteMessage = "&G_MY_DELETE_MESSAGE.";
    ...
    alert(myDeleteMessage);

    where G_MY_DELETE_MESSAGE would be a part of the application or the request for Substitution.

    Concerning

  • Assignment of global variables

    I apologize if this is a fundamental and simple question, but I was pulling my hair out for the last week trying to get this working and Google becomes sick and tired of my questions to get answers. This should not be so difficult, but I'm not a designer, not a programmer, I'm just a tech trying to make my life easier, then Yes, I brought it on me.

    I have converted an InDesign form that has a bunch of boxes in a document of LiveCycle. I want the boxes when they are verified to assign a value to the variable assocated. In the properties of the form, I've set up global variables and assign the value to '0 '.

    The box I put the method/property to change to have the following code:

    If (topmostSubform.Page1.Back_Cover.rawValue == 1)

    BC.value = 6300;

    on the other

    BC.value = 0;

    I have a textbox that I am taking all these values and based on what is checked and this is not it must calculate the total for this field. Here is the code I have for the calculation of the value of text using the method/property to calculate:

    premium.rawValue = BC.value + IFC.value + IBC.value;  There are three check boxes associated with this value

    However, no matter what I do not values seem to are they assigned to the variable of BC.

    Can someone tell me please in common sense as to why it doesn't work?

    Thank you very much.

    Tom

    Hello

    I think Steve is right, you want to avoid using global (or form) variables in this case, particularly in the case of calculating as any change that value will not cause a recalculation.  I have also try and keep all the logic of calculation in one place.  So, in the case of calculating the premium field, I would put the following JavaScript code;

    this.rawValue = (Back_Cover.rawValue = 'On')? 6300: 0;

    this.rawValue += (Inside_Front_Cover.rawValue = 'On')? 5775: 0;

    this.rawValue += (Inside_Back_Cover.rawValue = 'On')? 5350: 0;

    Note that the power of your checkboxes values are the strings 'On' and 'Off '.

    Bruce.
