Workstation 7 Vista host disk works hard for XP comments file operations

I'm under Workstation 7.0.0 build-203739 on a Vista Business SP2 host with a pair of disks SAS 15 k with RAID 0. The guest is Windows XP Pro SP3, freshly installed with all the default options for the new virtual machine (256 MB RAM, 10 GB virtual hard drive expansion). The vm startup takes about 20 seconds. A 150 MB of the command line file copy takes anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute and forty-five seconds, and host hard disk castigates all the time.

By comparison, a configuration similar vm XP on VirtualBox 3.0.8 (192 MB of RAM, 8 GB hard drive expansion virtual) takes over 14 years at startup and 10s to copy the file.

Advice on how I can reduce this disc screw up? I have read the KB information at http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC & docType = kc & externalId = 1008885 & sliceId = 1 & docTypeID = DT_KB_1_1 & dialogID = 45838390 & stateId = 0% 200% 2045656292and tried the suggestion to change the settings for vmx on IO and memory. He coached less disc stolen from the start, but the time for copy of file is not largely. I didn't not try the other suggestions, because they are much more involved hardware wise and I assumed that I could achieve vmware good performance on the system when I had already achieved good performances with VirtualBox.

Check your memeory settings menu > Edition > Preferences > memory: box set 'fit all virtual memory... ". »

also adding

mainmem.useNamedFile = "false".

for the vmx file can help

  • HP OEM Vista restore disks work after installing Windows 7 RC?

The title of the post pretty much everything says. I would like to try the Windows 7 RC, but I also wish I could go back to Vista, at some point. It seemed that the restore disks did not have a complete reinstall the last time (it resets windows pretty quickly). If I load Windows 7 RC, I'll be able to use my restore disks from HP to postpone Vista on my system?

    Thank you

    Pete

If your specific working set of restore disks really depends on if they were created successfully; However, a set of disks of restoration work should certainly work. At least with my CL Pavillion DV-4-1287, Recovery Manager also continued to work after an upgrade to Windows 7, then a reinstallation via clean install without shaped.  Initially, he works with none of the additional steps, in the second, I just need to copy the application on of c:windows.old\program files (x 86) \sminst.  Unless you have reason to do so, while a clean install is the best route, I wouldn't do a format with a clean install, since all your drivers are stored in the Windows.old folder and (dependent on model) the swsetup folder.  Windows 7 can not find the drivers for all devices (five in my case) but on my machine all drivers Vista has of worked - just needed to point the manual driver update function to the appropriate folded equal windows.old or swsetup. BTW, while drivers Vista came with my laptop running Windows 7, the same is not true for some recent updates on the website.

Oh, one last thing would be to update the BIOS before installing Windows 7 from the Flash of the bios Setup program is not yet certified for Windows 7 (no surprise since it's always a BONE development)...

  • Satellite L350: Vista doesn't work anymore - LogonUI.exe - corrupted file

Security Suite updates on my daughters Toshiba Satellite L350 windows vista the operating system no longer works.
An error was detected on the system that contains the following message.

Open a session about UI.exe - corrupted file
    File or directory C/Program ~ 1 / Toshiba/Smart face V is corrupt & unreadable.

I tried to run a system restore to the last configuration on both computers, but always the same problem exists. I also tried to restore the two laptops to the factory settings, but the system still does not work. I don't have a restore disk as disk Toshiba HARD drive recovery is on the laptop.

Can someone help me or suggest any way I can fix it both of these laptops. It seems very strange that both of these computers have stopped working at the same time according to windows automatic updates in October 09.

    Thank you Gary

    Hello

AFAIK the LogonUI.exe is responsible for connecting to the Windows operating system.
If the exe file is corrupt then you won't be able to connect to the operating system.

You don t the recovery disk but you have the HARD drive on the second partition recovery this may be your last resort.

Switch on and press F8. Choose fix my computer.
Then new window appears offering the option called: HARD drive recovery.

Choose this option and see if you can start the HDD recovery procedure.

    Hello

    That said 500 GB:

However, a 750 GB hard drive might work too. I can't say with certainty that your pc is a desktop computer and this section is for laptops, but the recovery disk/s may not work on a drive that is much larger than the original one in any case.

    Hello

Your computer is fairly new, you should be ok, installation of a 1 TB drive.  Older computers may have problems of card motherboard/bios with bigger hard drives.  You can also install a SATA2 drive, but if your motherboard doesn't support SATA drive will just default to this speed (SATA2 is backward compatible).  The player below is to consider.

  • How related is a license of workstation to the host?

I've been evaluating various products VM to use desktop, and I decided that VMWare Workstation provides enough advantage on free products worth the price.

My current desktop is Linux Ubuntu 11.10, running on the bare metal.  It is my intention to move gradually, to a Linux Mint 12.0 installation, running in a virtual machine.  In other words, for a few weeks or a few months, as I move applications and configurations, one at a time, I'll have the two race.

Currently, I'm running on a Workstation 8.0 evaluation license, with installed on Ubuntu and mint in a guest host.

Once I moved everything into the virtual machine of mint, I anticipate replacing the host - a clean, stripped, install Linux on a new disk and then installing the workstation on that host.  Use it for virtual computers little more accommodations - including the VM of mint I use as my main office.

My problem is that I'm not likely to complete the transition process before my trial license runs out.

So the question - I'm having problems with the license of workstation, if I install it on a hard drive with an Ubuntu installation and then install it later on a different hard disk to a different Linux installation.  I'm not worried about the legal aspects - there is only a single physical computer, and it's only going to start on one drive at a time.  But I'm worried I might fall against the validation of license of workstation problems.  I could easily see how it could decide that I'm trying to run it on two different machines.

Can I expect problems?  Or I worry about anything?

IMO there will be no problems with this approach, legal or technical. VMware Workstation requires no activation, enter the license key is all he needs. As long as you make sure that the licensed version works on one system, you should be fine.

  • Satellite L300. Observation on the issues cover the recovery of Vista on a new HARD drive

    Hi all

I need to reinstall Vista (on a Toshiba Satellite L300) runs the "recovery disc" created by Toshiba disc creator before recovery and using a disc of "nine" (Toshiba MK2035GSS, 200 GB).

    Issues related to the:

    (1) I have to partition and format the new drive before starting with recovery disks / DVD (s).
or which will be done through the recovery process?

    (2) what is the reason for which the current disc is divided into two size equal C: and D: partitions, while
D: partition seems to be reservered for the system, but only 5 GB are used?

    (3) what is the purpose of the partition 3. ("inactive") with about 1.5 GB of space?

Thanks in advance for your support and help!

    Whalter

    > 1) I have to partition and format the new drive before starting with recovery disks / DVD (s).
or which will be done through the recovery process?
No, because the HARD disk should be formatted during the recovery process.

(> 2) what is the reason for which the current disc is divided into two size equal partitions C: and D:, while
D: partition seems to be reservered for the system, but only 5 GB are used?
On the D partition, you can find the files and folder from HARD drive recovery. HARD disk recovery allows you to recover the laptop HARD drive and in this case, you don't need the recovery disc

(> 3) what is the purpose of the partition 3. ("inactive") with about 1.5 GB of space?
It is a Vista partition and is necessary for the backup files. Vista is able to repair the operating system if something bad is going to do this the necessary files that are stored on this partition.

  • Workstation 8 Shared VMs on different hard disks for autostart

    Hi people:

Is anyway to take advantage of the feature work station 8 sharing VMs autostart with the start-up of the host OS, but have several virtual machines on different hard drives? Ideally, I would like to have VMs on separate hard disks for performance problems. \

I really don't want to go on the road of ESXi right now. Is it possible to "autostart" other than via the shared "VMs" component of VMware workstation VMs 8? I think this would be a trivial feature to add to the workstation 8 and would make great useful for young kids like me.

  • Restore Vista Premum (32-bit edition) for the new hard drive from the laptop when original disks are lost?

    Hello

I'm trying to upgrade from my son's laptop computer and want to replace the current drive with a much larger.

It is running Vista Home premium Edition (32 bit) and he lost his records came with the laptop: I can do?  I bought Windows 7 Upgrade and a disk hard sata 500 GB, but I need to get Vista on the new drive before Windows 7 readers.

I backed up the data using Windows Easy Transfer for issue restores the operating system.

Please note that this is a laptop, I can only have a hard drive up both and I don't know how to get the operating system to the new blank disc? I can create a recovery on a DVD disc / C or something Vista or a 3rd party utility?

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

Contact the manufacturer to see if you have a recovery Partition and if it can create recovery discs.  If so, create the recovery disks and you will be able to use them to restore the system to factory conditions once you have installed the new drive (but you may need to install the new Vista compatible drivers for the new drive as the recovery disks can have only those for the old disk).  Otherwise, contact the manufacturer and get a set of recovery (at a modest price) discs and use them to restore the system to the conditions of the plant on the new drive.  When we talk to them, confirm that their recovery process allows you to install new drivers for the new drive hard during the process and exactly how do (or it doesn't work - so be sure to check it out).  We cannot help you with recovery of the manufacturer process as it their not Microsoft.

    I hope this helps.
