  Java Help Center is not useful. It indicates that this is a known issue and is being researched. This status is apparently true for over a year with no resolution, it seems as if not enough resources are devoted to research. The subject alluded to the possible incompatibility with Microsoft MS14-049 KB2918614 security update.

  I uninstalled KB2918614 and still the same error.

  I uninstalled Java 7, rebooted the PC and tried to install Java 8 and got the same error. Then I installed the update of Java 7 79 and it worked, but I can't go beyond Java 7 for an evolutionary support for Java edition.

  On a whim, I disabled McAfee VirusScan 8.8 and Alto! installing Java 8 worked.

  There is no message in my logs VSE VSE was the cause. However I saw messages clearly connected "would be blocked by an Access Protection rule (rule is currently not applied)" but in fact, they are apparently put into force and prevent the successful install Java 8. Or at least that's my theory.

• Windows 8 update does not complete

  I just opened this machine with Win8 and wanted to update 8.1, but was invited to update Windows Update first.

  I ran the update, which asked me to restart the laptop. I restarted the first time, I went back to the Windows Update screen that asked another reboot. Now around 20 restarts later, I'm looking at the prompt still asking me to restart.

  I understand that you can not upgrade to 8.1 Windows as you cannot install Windows updates.

  As you mentioned that you got the restart option which indicates that updates have been downloaded successfully and then you tried to restart the computer and the option restart Vienna once again.

  It indicates that Windows updates is not installing on the computer.

• Windows 7 update does not complete!

  Until about two days ago, all updates of Windows 7 is complete.  Now, whenever I stop, I get the small shield with the exclamation point, which means that there is some new updates.  He is stuck in a loop!  I have the same problem with a laptop with Vista but it is a spare, and I just don't care about it that much, but it's always a problem.

  However, my year old charge laptop Lenovo with a legal copy of Windows 7 is having this problem.  I want if possible a response directly from Microsoft.   Yet once again, a little guy like me shouldn't be looking everywhere for this answer.  Microsoft should take responsibility and help us solve this problem, perhaps even offering live assistance, especially for those of us who do not know where to look, what files to enter, etc..  I see that others seem to have similar problems, and it is not fair that Microsoft expects us to rely on user forums to find solutions or workarounds for the updates that are preparing!   I get so irritated by Firefox update notifications interrupting my work process and autmatic on MY computer. So although I consider it an invasion of my privacy and safety. If necessary I will set up a web site to mount a campaign against this disgraceful practice, which in reading some posts available that I can see are also a source of concern for other users.
  Even in the best of cases where I could tolerate the choices of a response to "Ask later" which does not carteblanche Firefox ask me in 5 minutes.
  It's particularly irritating for me because I have my computer configured to perform automatic operations that then get sabotaged by these notification settings appearing frequently. I really don't want to have to change the browser because I don't know if others are better.
  I need a clear answer personal Mozilla thse on how I can kill these settings using my computer within 24 hours or I reserve the right to implement a campaign site to highlight this unacceptable behavior on the part of mozilla.

  I also recommend Mozilla only IF they are interested in getting community support to streamline their web site so that users can more easily find how to become members able to ask questions, but uncomfortable for Mozillla.

  If this does not work:

  1. Enter about: config in the address bar
  2. Click I'll be careful, I promise you if prompted
  3. In the filter field, type Startup
  4. Double click on startup.homepage_override_url
  5. Delete the text string, and then click OK
  6. Close Firefox and reopen the window to check that it worked.
