XP invites a memory, but invites MS-DOS of Win 95 only

When I copy files (for backup) command in XP, it comes up with 'Memory' and restricted on a folder with many files, some with very long file names. Yet when I use a similar shortcut that I postponed of Office 95 (on all later versions under Windows) it works perfectly.

The Win 95 shortcut pointing to the same program XP, \Windows\System32\CMD. EXE, but it is a. PIF file not a. LNK and has additional properties, including a memory tab.

How can I configure the XP command prompt to behave like the Win 95 one?

It's OK, I have sussed it!

On XP. PIF of shortcuts are for executables MS-DOS .COM and in porting a winger of Win 95 I had changed the program COMMAND.COM to CMD. EXE, which has always worked on XP.

I also found out why I get "Out of memory" errors in the command prompt. It was caused not by the large number or the sizes of the files themselves, but by the presence of a few very long file names. By the shortening of these filenames (which were eBooks Kindle which tends to generate long names) I can now successfully copy these files into the command prompt.

This issue is unrelated to the startup items and services.
