XP MCE said dll files are missing, maybe others. Starting price. Runs. Must fix. My files are corrupt? Terrified Novice needs help...

Hello

Please help me solve this computer.  I am an elderly person, not technical and I need to fix it myself if possible.  I studied the system widely.  I don't have the skills or knowledge needed to implement a fix.

What worries me, is that my files have been damaged by the problems on this computer.  I don't know how to say.

The system was custom built, not a branded computer.  I have 3 drives, all Originals Microsoft.  XPMCE disks (there are 2) say 2005 on them, the 3rd disc says Version 2005 updates.  He said not cumulative on the third disc. I don't know what that means... I don't know there was also a cumulative 2006 for XP... final.  XP Pro is 2002.

I installed updates as much as I could, but am stuck with SP2, and I know that the system is vulnerable because of the missing updates.   I want to fix non-destructive if possible.

Langa claimed it was possible, but he did not speak MCE, but Pro, and they are not the same.  I know not what integrators were not allowed to provide (food?) discs with this particular Version.  I've never done of all disks (experience, is what you get right after that you need), but I'm not sure that the system was perfect when I got it...  I don't have any other type of disk.  I learned that one must save or image the system, so it can be restored.

The system starts and runs. But the SP3 update can "t be installed.  A program to work indicating that a dll file is missing.  In addition, the system restore stopped working.  I was told the system restore often confuses things and can 'break' installed AV and perhaps other programs, due to conflicts between Windows restoration files and programs that are not part of Windows in terms of time.

I've always run AntiVirus and MBAM.  I have the instructions step by step for what I could try.

I would like to find a list of parameters that should be enabled or disabled in different areas... so I can check that they are correct.  The area called services and to uninstall Windows components, I worry.

I have not really requires... because I don't know how to get the information on this computer.  I ran the Scan Now command and he said I should put in discs... There are 3?   I'm afraid to do anything until I have found on the backup and the possibility of corruption of my files.  I'll have to print files, rather than risk losing things.  My drive back to stop working, don't know if it is related to the lack of files or settings to be wrong.

Thank you for reading this... I tried to write paragraphs, to make it a bit clearer, I hope that it appears that way.

Bonnie

Try to run, type: cmd cmd type: verificateur auditor files SFC SCANNOW once windows starts, insert the

XP CD, leave the screen. The File Checker runs automatically, at least with XP home & PRO. Also check this

link for info MCE & SFC. http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/909059

In addition, sfc is thru, remove xp cd, type: CHKDSK C: /F agree to restart, exit cmd, restart the pc.

If the problems persist, open the event viewer & see what problems or specific files are always in need of attention...

Several VSS writers fail and my backups are failling too. Need help:

I have a desltop installed SP3 x 64 XP and a laptop with seven x 64 SP1. In both the machine that my backups fail. I'm trying to back up data by using boats to storage, backup Windows also is failling. I'm taking a full backup on a USB external drive (2 TB).

I did "vssadmin list writers" and showing several writers are in the failed State.

I've done SFC/scannow, it did not help. There is no error in the disk and Chkdsk.

I don't know how VSS works and how to solve the problem. Help, please!

A lot of people told me they found this informative article. That's why I upgraded that and display back again.

    -------------------------------------------------------

Before you stat is working on this issue make sure that the volumes have no system disk/file error. Run Chkdsk and ensure.

    (1) in the case of a failure of backup/writer, we first check the drivers associated with the VSS backup.

    These drivers are:

    VOLSNAP. SYS

    NTFS. SYS

    SWPRV. DLL

-Check the version of above mentioned MS 3 files and update using MS Hotfix.

If we have installed other suppliers, who might be the supplier of StorageCraft, Symantec suppliers and suppliers of Acronis, he must ensure that their files are also updated.

Note: You can see the list of suppliers using this command: VSSADMIN LIST PROVIDERS

Some of the DRIVERS PROVIDER commonly find are:

    stcvsm.sys

    symsnap.sys

    snapman.sys

    (2) this step is performed only when we find him

VSS writers in a failed State. If we find the stable writers and backups still fail, or we get errors, do not perform this step if you please.

In this case, the VSS writers fail, we can delete the following registry key, after of course saving and restart the server.

    HKLM/Software/Microsoft/EventSystem/{26c.../Subscriptions.

This key will be automatically recreated when you restart and writers should return to the stable state.

The writers pending the completion status is not a problem. It's also good that Stable.

We can do on the Server 2003, 2008 and 2008 R2 OS as well.

However, in Windows Server 2003, after you delete and restart the "vssadmin list writers" server cannot display all the writers, in this case must register the dll:

For a list of the dll files to register, please check KB: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940184

Note: The reinstatement of dll in Windows Vista/2008 and especially is NOT recommended.

    (3) if we have only one / specificwriter (s) in a State of failure, which would always be SQL, EXchange, IIS or NTDS, then we have need to revive their respective service Console of service.

If they fail repeatedly, then make sure that the application and its components are updated. See their respective engineers immediately. Make sure that the latest service packs and patches are installed.

    (4) make the foregoing, resolves generally 80 to 90% of the questions. If we believe that the issue is occurring, or we have VSS event errors, it may be the providers, the origin of the problem. If the creation of the snapshot does not properly, it can affect writers and other components involved.

Please check providers using "vssadmin list providers. If we find any other provider, other than the Microsoft software shadow copy provider, we have to remove from the list.

To do this: start the registry editor.

    HKLM/System/CurrentControlSet/Services/VSS/suppliers/GUID.

One GUID would be for Microsoft Software Shadow Copy provider. The other GUID would be for other providers such as StorageCraft. We will save the GUID, and then delete it. Then restart the machine.

Now when we do vssadmin list providers, we will see only the default Microsoft provider.

I have seen in many cases where our supplier of StorageCraft may not work properly and continue of not not the authors. In such

case, if we get rid of the supplier, then the issue is resolved and not re occurs.

-However this would impede the functionality of StoaregCraft or any other similar to this backup software.

That's why to engage respective software tech support for further assistance.

    (5) If a shadow copy is enabled on the volume, make sure that the storage area is set to the default location.

    For example:

If we take a snapshot of C: then the storage area should be C:

We are changing that, if we do not have enough free space (at least 300 MB) free.

We can click with the right button on the volume, goto the cliché tab and change it accordingly.

Also note that the minimum value of the storage area should be 300 MB and maximum can be 3000 MB.

We can also set any value between the two, which is a multiple of 300, 600, 900, 1200, 1500 etc... According to the available space.

In the cases where errors in the event viewer on wait times (event id: 12298, 12310, 2004, 12290) then we also need to put the MinDiffArea in the registry.

    HKLM/System/CurrentControlSet/Services/Volsnap

Right side, new DWORD VALUE - "MinDiffAreaFileSize" - change and set the value between "300-3000 Mo" or any multiple

300 between the two. Ideally, we can define it on 3000 MB which works even better if we have space.

    Ref: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/826936

    (6) also, please make sure we have plenty of free space. If we go by the book, a snapshot requires at least 10% of the volume

    to be free.

Storage controllers (SCSI/RAID controllers) could also be a problem and may need to be updated.

  • Satellite Pro A300 - System32\hal.dll file is corrupted or missing

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro A300, which says that the System32\hal.dll file is missing or corrupt.

Is it possible to repair the file by a recovery by the laptop itself, or do I have to get a copy of Windows Vista to start over and do it this way?

Hoping to get some possible answers to what to do.

    Thanks Christian

    Hello

I read that some discussions in different forums and in most cases the new OS installation may solve this problem. The HAL.dll in place in C:\Windows\system32 then maybe you could solve this problem in copy this file from the Vista CD in this folder

You could start the unit by using a Live CD (linux or windows lice CD called PartBe or WinPE)
But the easiest solution would be to the recovery procedure

  • Windows XP does not start because < root Windows > \system32\hal.dll file is corrupted

I get the following error message when starting my windows XP Home PC. : Windows didn't start because the following file is missing or damaged

\System32\hal.dll. Please reinstall a copy of the file. How do I do that?

This could be the result of a corrupt / missing hal.dll file or boot.ini file. You have your windows disc? If so, follow the instructions below. If you do not have your windows disk click HERE to create a disc of windows recovery console.

    1. Use the Windows XP CD to start your computer.
    2. When you receive the message to press R to repair Windows by using the Recovery Console, press the R key.
    3. Select the Windows installation that you want, and then type the administrator password when you are prompted.
    4. Type bootcfg/Rebuild, and then press ENTER.
    5. When the Windows installation is located, the following instructions are displayed:
Add installation to boot list? (Yes/no/all)
[Type Y in response to this message.]

      Enter load identifier:
[This is the name of the operating system. Type Windows XP Professional or Windows XP Home Edition].

      Enter operating system load options:
Leave this field blank, and then press ENTER.

After completing the previous steps, restart the computer, and then select the first item in the start menu. This should allow Windows XP to start normally.

After Windows XP is successfully loaded, the Boot.ini file can be modified to remove the incorrect entry.

  • Computer does not start. Said diagnosis ci.dll file is corrupt.

    Original title:CI.dll is corrupt

My computer does not start and goes straight to the Startup Repair. I read the diagnostic tests and get that ci.dll is corrupt. How can I fix this. I can't go in safe mode.

Hello. If the excellent suggestion of engineering support is not a solution, I might suggest looking at your problem in a different way. If after trying to start sound in different modes and after letting windows to attempt to repair himself using tools, you are at the same point, there is an excellent chance that you have a virus rootfit. This variant of the particular virus causes a loop of endless startup repair.

I had to deal with exactly the same problem you just this last weekend, and if I do a job of tech on the side that was new to me. I searched the various forumns filled with good information provided by many who are far more experienced than I am, but finished as a result of my guts and succeed. I'm pasting below 'A' solution, it worked for me and if you are comfortable around your PC, it is a completely physical process of 20 minutes (time includes blow and clean the case...) (-8..) So take a look and see if what worked for me might work for you as well. Good day.

Hello... YOU have a rootkit virus. He goes around, I had to kill one this weekend. Now, my solution, while it is easy for me may not for you. I do a little IT WORKS so I have a converter that transforms all types of disks in usb drives. I just pulled on the desktop player and as soon as I connected it to my laptop, ZoneAlarm on access scanner killed and it was all over. IF you have the possibility of another machine, you can pick up a converter for about $30. If you're like most people, the thought of again is less pleasant to the taste. Now, I am 100% convinced that your repair loop is driven virus, no, but 98% is not bad. Good day!

I think you need to describe your problem in detail a bit more... "there are 37 warnings in your conf site?" What it really means...

Unless im missing the point, which is quite likely :) you might try running a chkdsk/r from the run prompt.

    Hello shessy49, welcome.

I would recommend that we run a SFC (System File Checker) first scan to see what he finds. Try this:

    1. click on START
2 type "msconfig" (without the quotes) and press enter
    3. go to the "Startup" tab and uncheck all the entries displayed
    4. click on 'Apply' at the bottom right
    5 restart your computer

    ---
    After the reboot
    ---

    1. click on START
    2. Type "cmd" (without the quotes). Right-click on the result at the top of the menu START and select 'run as administrator '.
    3. type "sfc/scannow" (without the quotes) and press enter

If the question started very recently, you can try a system restore:

    1. click on START
    2. click on "all programs".
    3. click on "Accessories".
    4. click on "system tools."
    5. click on "system restore."

6 follow the prompts shown to restore your system to a date before the problem started. Although the system restore does not target the personal data, it is recommended that you back up all data such as music, photos and documents in case something is not bad.

  • HPE-400f: upgraded to SSD drive, partitions are left behind I need help to remove.

I upgraded to 250 GB SSD

I did the recovery disk and install it on the new SSD. How can I now safely remove partitions and merge it with the original disc of ssd? I want to use the 1 TB as a storage for programs to run off the SSD device how to do this and remove the operating system?

    Greetings,

Please refer to thisarticleon partitioning and formatting a HARD drive using disk management.

Yet once, you will be able to remove the volume of the BONE and, possibly, volume HP_Recovery Microsoft disk management. The reserved 100 MB volume will likely be removed using third-party disk management software.

Do not use HP Recovery Manager to remove the HP_Recovery Partition. You remove the HP_Recovery Partition SSD , not the HP_Recovery Partition of HARD drive.

In addition, it is not necessary to remove the reserved partition of 100 MB system on the HARD drive because it is so small relative to the size of the HARD drive. It is hidden so you won't see it in Windows Explorer.

  • Permissions are mesed up. Need help to fix it.

Somehow, the permissions on my machine Home premium windows 7 is all messed up.  Several programs do not work now because of incorrect permissions on a directory on the system.

It showed after a system restore.   I managed to add permisions writing for most of the places that need it, however, there is always an unknown place that isn't fair and I'm not.

Is there some utility to restore permissions on any system, or can I reinstall windows ON my existing copy without having to reload all my programs.   I put in my windows disk and it just says: "install now".   It makes me nervous.  I know you used to be able to do it with XP (don't know about vista).

  • Error message - browseui.dll file is not a valid Windows image in the Windows XP computer.

Original title: how to fix browseui.dll without original windows disc?

    Hello

    Well, kids, here's the deal.

I myself locked out of my computer and installed PC login now erase my passwords. It has worked flawlessly, and I now have my computer back after months and months.

There was only a single small strangeness: whenever I connected my computer, he asked me to check my drive. Looking forward to get my computer and running and customized how I like it, I bypassed it the first few times. Then, when I had a few minutes, I thought I had better let the disk check, so I left it.

NOW, when I turn on my computer, I get an error message that my browseui.dll file is not a valid windows image and my windows Explorer does not work. So I've been doing on the web looking for a solution via the Task Manager, which is a pain. Someone suggested to use the scannow in the command prompt command line, so I tried, but it requires my disk of windows XP which I think can be in a different State with my mother.  So I simply bypassed it whenever he had the drive and VOILA! all peachy.

Until, that is, I turn on my computer again. We're back in the same place.  Well, this analysis running and without going through the disc each time took me about an hour, and I can't do that whenever I need to use my computer.

I tried the system restore, no change. I tried from the command prompt and choose a date AND choose "last good configuration" in the menu f12 or f8.  Without peanut.

    We are this:

    1. is there a way to correct this file without the disc?

    2. can I get another copy of the disk without having to buy it?

    3. Although I'm not PARTICULALRY, would be the Windows 7 upgrade solves the problem? (But I really like my XP...)

If the c:\windows\system32\browseui.dll file is damaged or missing, Explorer.exe does not start and you may see a message like this:

If the c:\windows\system32\browseui.dll file is corrupted, Explorer.exe does not start and you will see a message like this:

    Explorer.exe - bad Image
The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\BROWSEUI.dll is not a valid Windows image.  Please check this against your installation diskette.

You can click OK and get to an empty office with only your display background image but still be able to maneuver with the Task Manager.

If missing the c:\windows\system32\browseui.dll file, Explorer.exe does not start and you will see a message like this:

Explorer.EXE - unable to locate component: this application has failed to start because BROWSEUI.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

You can click OK and get to an empty office with only your display background image but still be able to maneuver with the Task Manager.

Since we know that XP keeps copies of critical system files in the dllcache folder, you can use the Task Manager to replace the file missing or distressed.

From the Task Manager, click file, new task (run...) and then click Browse and navigate to the c:\windows\system32\dllcache folder.  Make sure the "Files of type" box is set to show all files (or you will not see any), and then click OK to display all files.

Locate the copy of the browseui.dll file backup in the folder c:\windows\system32\dllcache, made right click and copy and go back up a folder c:\windows\system32, right-click in an empty area and paste the file there.  Answered in the affirmative if invited to replace the existing file.

You can then start the Explorer in Task Manager by clicking file, new task (run...) and in the "Open:", enter:

    Explorer.exe

Click OK to launch the Explorer and your office must return.

Or after replacing the file missing or suspicious, just restart the system task manager by clicking on stop and choosing restart and then Explorer will start to him only when the system is restarted.

If your computer to check your drive at every reboot, which means the "dirty bit" on the volume was probably settled and the only way to clear the dirty bit must run a chkdsk/r (which XP trying to do).   The dirty bit can be defined on a volume if there is a power interruption e.g. (plug pulling, using the power button / stop, etc.).

Sometimes, XP can't erase the bit of impurity in this way and it is preferable to run chkdsk/r from the XP Recovery Console so you can actually see what he does and run it again if necessary.

If you do not have any bootable media XP start in the XP Recovery Console, you can create a bootable XP (no XP media required) Recovery Console CD and do all your work from there.

You can even replace the file browseui.dll from SP Recovery Console if it is your desire.

Need instructions to create a CD of bootable XP Recovery Console?  No Microsoft Support Engineer seems to know how to do this, but I do and will instruct you in the next reply.

  • DLL files

What is a DLL file and why do I need? cuz it says that I don't have it on my windows Vista.

Please provide the EXACT message Word for Word and when if happens (I bet at startup).  I guess you have remnants of malware on your system (something your security for most software made and resolved, but missed just this part) that just needs to be cleaned and then the system checked for other malware and all the corruption caused by what happened - but I need the information above to confirm that (and then I'll post the procedures).

To the extent where what is a DLL file, here is an article that explains it better than me:http://www.easydesksoftware.com/dll.htm.  As with all programs, some are good and some are bad.  It's my experience that most of the messages that appear at the start are bad, but there are exceptions.

As soon as you let me know the exact message and when it occurs, I will answer you with how to get rid of him (if that's what I suspect - we see that here several times and the solution is relatively simple).  I want to just make sure that it is not a valid DLL file having problems before continuing.

I hope this helps and look forward to your response.

    Good luck!
