  HP does not currently have drivers for Windows 8. You probably won't need them. Windows 8 is not coming. It's here!

  Just do the installation on a spare hard drive and bring the original HARD drive to a safe place.

  One time finished, open windows control panel, open Device Manager and open sound, video and game controllers.  Right click on the IDT device and select uninstall - also, you should get a command prompt to delete the current driver, check the box allow this and then proceed to uninstall.

  When finished, restart the computer and let Windows load completely.  Open your download folder, right-click on the IDT Installer and select "Run as Administrator" to launch the installation.  Once this done, do a right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar and select playback devices.  'Speakers and headphones' left click once to highlight, and then click the Set Default button - check if you now audio.

• Pavilion dv6-2155dx: need to fix the card wifi for dv6-2155dx

  Hey guys. I have a laptop HP Pavilion dv6-2155dx with a Intel Centrino Wireless - N 1000 wifi card. The card was to die for a long time now and about to go off completely. All other PCs and phones connect properly to the internet here, except that this laptop connects, but drops to around every 15 minutes, limited connectivity or so and I have to turn off the wifi and then turn it back on to operate for another 15 minutes. Its incredibly annoying and I need help to make sure that I have buy the correct replacement so that it will work. Here is the info I have:

  The maintenance manual does not list a Centrino Wireless - N 1000 card. You must not only the correct chip, but he must have a part number of HP.   replacing the hard drive and do a clean install of windows 7 on the new drive, but when I try to install windows it cannot find the drivers for the hard disk. What happens with the original drive and the new drive.

  Found a way around the problem, using win2usb , I installed windows on the new drive, put it in the machine and it finished installing it.

  I have a HP Pavilion dv6 too - I came across your post (and 'Help' of Viki), because my contrast was all out of whack, too (much too bright). Adjust the gamma is nothing - but then I unplugged the power cord from the laptop, waited a second and plugged back in and voila! It's all good now. Don't know why...

  I recently updated my graphics drivers on the AMD website, which I did not know that at the time, did not fully support the laptop itself. After having done that, I had a problem with playback of videos where in certain circumstances the video would be black but audio would play again. I tried to uninstall the graphics driver that seems to resolve the video issue, but then none of my games would launch at all.   I see that HP has two pilots for the my model:

  (1) Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD Driver

  (2) NVIDIA GeForce video/graphics driver

  I have the NVIDIA graphics card in this laptop.

  I installed the NVIDIA driver.

  Question:

  -Do I need to install the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD driver as well?

  -Is the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD Driver for the onboard graphics for some choose dv6 - 2173cl variants and therefore does not apply to me

  OR

  -This driver improves the graphics performance of the chip Intel itself (whatever that might be) and so I have to install it?

  I looked at the description, but HP is not very explicitly clear cases when to install this driver.
