After installing an update of the bios recommended on the hp website my dv6131od running xp pro sp3 will not load windows

Update does not seem to have problems - failure, lack of time for flash, backup, etc.

boot sequence seems normal (finds it a bootable cd in the drive, etc.), but windows won't load in safe or other mode

next steps?  is there a way to access the BIOS?

    Thank you

There is a simple solution to this problem.  The HP Online Crash Analysis Team has finally responded to my email after 34 days.  I had given up hearing from them despite several requests to repeat.

I had completely disassembled the laptop trying to find the bios setting the jumpers on the motherboard in response to an idea contained in one of the PM, I sent... all to nothing does not...

OCAT told me to look in the BIOS under "system configuration" for the Native SATA support.  The last update of the BIOS resets this point 'activated', but that only works for Vista & Win 7.  This must be set to "disabled" for XP and previous operating system.

I hope that this post will save someone having to wait 5 weeks invest hours of work for a solution that took 3 minutes!

File Manager XP PRO SP3 will not recognize USB floppy A: drive

The system tray alerts "new hardware found" and "installed".

In the system. material | Device Manager | floppy drives, the disk is present, activated and works

If I pay BACK the drive is located and can be read and written.

The drive is not the case in (windows explorerer file manager.

The drive is not present in administrative tools. computer management | storage | removalable storage | libraries.

If bottom line, the usb floppy is a material recognized, works under DOS, but there is no access to XP.

This happens with two floppies different usb connected directly to a laptop (not a hub). When connecting to another XP computer, the disks are immediately recognized in the file manager and work as expected.

    Any ideas?

It's embarrassing, BUT I solved the problem by using TweakIU. It seems that in the workstation. The floppy drives were not verified. Verification of A & B readers did the trick.

  • Windows xp pro sp3 will not start corrupted boot.ini and hal.dll - please help

I installed Norton 360 offred via internet was last updated.  It immediately launched all applications previously disabled at STARTUP in msconfig.  And shortly after he started to gives me the blue screen "to the death".  This done in two days, and I was desperately trying to solve the problem by turning off almost all applications critical to running Windows XP Pro SP3, Norton and Office 2007 Home and student.  I even went and tried to edit the Boot.ini file in startup and recovery under the Advanced tab in the workstation properties.  Now all I get is an error message Windows cannot start because the hal.dll file is missing or damaged.  I replaced it by copying a modified version of the boot sequence, while the hard drive of my laptop was enslaved to my desktp PC, but nothing helped.  I can't even the Recovery Console to start on my laptop.  I need HELP, please.

These profile errors are usually caused by one of the following:

1-profile corruption.  The user profile is damaged and that Windows cannot load.  To resolve this issue, create a new user profile and move your files to the new profile.   See here for more information:

How to copy data from a corrupted to a new profile in Windows XP user profile

2 drives or corruption of the file system.  Run chkdks /f on the volume C:.  Please note that there is ALWAYS a risk of data loss when chkdsk is run on a volume, ideally, you should have a backup of your files before running chkdsk.

3 - virus or malware activity.  Some of these parasites can revoke your permissions on the folder of your profile, check the permissions on "C:\Documents and Settings\Andre" and make sure you have a full control on the folder.  Check this box until you try #1 or 2 above.

Some of these parasites can also revoke your permissions in key areas of the registry and create real Dany on the machine that can prevent you to run some of your software.  Use Regedit to load your old profile hive (NTUSER. (DAT) in your profile folder (C:\Documents and Settings\Andre\NTUSER. (DAT) and make sure you have full control over the key.  In the advanced security settings to ensure that the child objects are inherit permissions from the parent and put a check mark on "replace entries permissions for all child objects...". "Click on apply and OK your way out.  See here for easy to follow instructions for loading and editing of remote registry hives: http://www.rwin.ch/xp-live/regedit.htm make sure you unload the hive when you're done, otherwise the changes will not be saved.

These parasites can also revoke permission on the other key of registry and system files, you can use SubInACL to restore your permissions on these key objects, see here for more information:

Solve installation errors using the SubInACL tool to repair the file and registry permissions

  • XP Pro SP3 will be closed but NOT restart

My HP laptop came with XP Professional SP2 and I have recently upgraded to SP3 from the Microsoft windows update Web site.

Everything works, but now the computer does NOT restart - it starts to and then turns off with the fan runs constantly.  I have to manually down the power button to turn the system off completely, then press the again press power button to restart.

I tried to start the last known good configuration, but that has not solved the problem. I also tried to do a repair using the CD to reinstall/repair XP Pro SP2 OS came with my laptop but now it asks the OS product key (which he did not until I upgraded to SP3). The operating system was preinstalled by HP and all I have is the CD to reinstall/repair came with the laptop.

Also, when I ran the CD of the OS, it initially gave me a message that the file "i386\winntupg\netupgrd.dll" is missing (who again once he has never done before I upgraded to SP3). I can not load this file on the CD of the operating system because of the issue of the 'key' above. (not sure if it is related to the issue of restarting I'm going to).

Please tell us the solution to revive the issue. Thank you.

If you can start Windows and facing restart issue, then check if the problem persists in safe mode.

If the reboot problem does not persist in safe mode, then it is possible that some third-party programs installed on the computer is causing the problem.

I suggest that you put the computer in a clean boot state and check if it helps.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows XP by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

See the link below to learn more about how to clean boot.

  • problems with what to delete in my memory to make more space for computer memory will work faster. And I get a code of error MFC71U. DLL

I play Dungeons and Dragons on the line but theres a lot of lag. I think that its because theres not enough memory in my computer (windows XP Home Edition), need to know how to solve this problem, then the computer go faster

First, you should post questions of Windows XP in a Windows XP forum for better responses.

Second, if there is not enough memory in your computer, you need to install more.

In third place, deleting things "in memory" is not possible.  Deleting things out of your drive is, but that will not help.

Finally, when you post in the forums of Windows XP, make sure that you include all the details on your error message, not only brief and incomplete description you gave in your post title.

  • get windows pro 64-bit and loading in office 2003 old xp pro it will work?

I intend to get a new HP and want to save all my files and programs on it.  In particular the office 2003, Excel, I want to spend another $200 on new Office I use particularly excel with it.   A question going to work because it is 32 bit and I will a 64-bit.  Second question, why can't I just use the free office software on the net, instead of desktop with some of my co-workers who have the Agency to share excel spreadsheets and letters of the word?  Thank you.

    Hello:

You can transfer your files and they will be open in an operating system to 64 biot.  You cannot transfer your programs - none of them, not because of the thing to 64-bit, but you can't just.

You will need your installation of program diskettes or if installation files they are stored somewhere on your PC and on your new loading.

If you have the Office 2003 installation disc or the installation executable file on your PC, you can copy that and run that he and you should be OK, as long as it is a retail version of Office 2003.

If Office 2003 is installed on your PC when you bought it, most likely it is an OEM version and the license is not transferable in any case.

As to your second question.  You can certainly use an Office suite open source to run on your new PC that will view, edit and save Microsoft Office files.

    I recommend this one:
