The upgrade to Windows XP?

Please read these instructions carefully and completely before you begin installing Windows 7: there are important steps that you must follow to upgrade your PC from Windows XP to Windows 7 in order to preserve your files and settings.

Before you begin, you'll need to backup all your data to an external storage device, and you will need all the installation discs for the programs that you want to keep. Please make sure that you have an external hard drive (see details below).

More detailed instructions are available at windows.microsoft.com/upgrade-windows-xp. Here are the basic steps.

1. start Windows Upgrade Advisor (winodws.microsoft.com/upgradeadvisor) to see if there are known issues that may affect the installation and the question of whether you should install the version of 32 or 64 bit Windows 7.

2 back up your files and settings on an external hard drive using Windows Easy Transfer (windows.microsoft.com/windows-easy-transfer). If you do not have an external hard drive, you will not be able to use Windows Easy Transfer. Alternatively, you can copy the files you want to keep on a USB stick, CD or DVD.

3. you will need to manually reinstall your programs, such as Microsoft Office, after I installed Windows 7. Gather the installation for your programs and all partner/license product key discs. You may be able to download programs from the Internet. For example, Windows Live Messenger can be installed from the download.live.com/messenger.

4. Insert the Windows 7 DVD in your PC. When asked "which type of installation you want. Click on "Custom (advanced)."

5. when Windows 7 is installed, use Windows Easy Transfer to restore your files and settings.

If you are not comfortable Windows 7 installation, check with a local retail or the services of the PC company store to see if they offer upgrade services. Andre Da Costa http://adacosta.spaces.live.com http://www.activewin.com

I'm having hard to install Windows 7 64 bit on my desk that I had built two days ago. They do not have install my OS. they just put everything together. I go home, turn on the computer, start Windows and right in the middle of installation (file extension), the outage. I start the computer and start the installation, and after Windows copies the necessary files to develop, this error message appears: Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupted or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code: 0 x 80070017. I looked at the answers related to this error code, but none seem to fit my situation. The operating system I have is an OEM System Builder Pack, which has a copy of Windows 7 64-bit. Anyone know what I can do? I hope that I have not buy another OS, because one I have is bad.

I had the same problem installing my win 7 pro 64-bit, had the same error code, retried a couple of times and was stuck to the expansion of the files windows to 72% the most. I was trying to intall with RAID, I abandoned, reinstalled windows XP home and pulled out one of the reader, here I reformatted the drive with windows XP that was ready to be installed, after the successful installation of XP, I then installed windows 7 and failed 2 times before expanding windows files is passed to 100% after it past this 2nd line in installation everything went well. You may need to make some changes in the configuration of the BIO.

    Good luck

Looks like the installation media can be damaged, try to download a new copy and try again.

For 5 years, Microsoft made it fairly easy for users of the Windows 7 operating system to get reinstall media. If you have lost your support disc or installation retail collection; either it has been damaged or defective; You can download a copy of the edition that you have licensed from a membership site called Digital River. More recently, Microsoft ended the availability to reinstall media that you can download as a. File ISO in Digital River, which is a digital reproduction of an optical disc.

It was particularly convenient for people who could not easily get the manufacturer's recovery media, did not want to pay the fees required to get or preferred a clean configuration without the software packaged manufacturers or even a recovery partition does not work. It's easy to use, all you had to do was reinstall and reactivate using the product key located on the certificate of authenticity and download all the drivers on the manufacturers website.

Given that this option is no longer available, what are your options? See the article for more details:

How to: What are my options for Windows 7 reinstall media?

Make sure you scroll down and read the section:

What to do if you cannot get your manufacturer recovery media, refuse to use or to buy it or the Microsoft Software Recovery Website does not work?

  • My dv7-2180us ceased to start with the new SSD (work)

    Hi people,

Just got THE Vertex 100 GB SSD last night, installed on my Pavilion DV7 laptop and went to the city. Installed Windows 7, flashed the bios to 0.41, installed the chipset, storage and display of HP drivers, installed office, installation of visual studio, patched and patched and patched again. All in all, it was three hours and 10-15 restarts with nary a problem. The _only_ glitch I met was at the very beginning, when the installer of Windows 7 stuck during the "expansion of the files. I just clicked on 'back', re-picked the scores he has already made and further success.

I turned off the machine last night and this morning it would not start. He would just stroll downtown. I tried pulling memory and disk, he beat POST, second addition of add-on, player still worked, added, crash. Replaced the SSD drive with my drive OEM, fine boots.

I thought the drive was toast, but put in a USB enclosure to make sure. It works perfectly.

Any suggestions? Seems to be a potential problem between HP, maybe the new bios (?) and the reader, but I can't understand why he spent so long after it flashes without problem.  Could I go back to an older version of flash?

    Thank you!

It would not be a bad idea to head over to ocztechnologyforums.com to check that you have the latest firmware recommended on the SSD. I followed the guide for my SSD Vertex and have had zero problems with my installation of Windows 7.

You should be able Flash the BIOS of your laptop computer to the previous version.

  • Satellite C660 stuck in an infinite loop of BSOD after upgrade to win 10

Wow what a disaster, this is a machine under windows 7-32 bit Satellite C660 PSC1GA-01E01M stuck in an infinite loop of BSOD.

The lappy said that it was ok to upgrade to windows 10 so... Yes, I did.
Now its stuck in a loop without end of BSOD.

So I decided to use the recover option and reinstall windows 7 and then move from there.
After mega downloads updates and finally got to the stage where there was no update on the left to get, so I decided to upgrade to windows 10 even once.

Now stuck in an endless loop of BSOD again.

Can someone point me to the driver who is a failure, I can get into SafeMode ok, Device Manager has 2 problems

    (1) is under OTHER DEVICES is an unknown device
    (2) is generic pnp monitor

I tried from Toshiba Web site for updates of drivers for 32-bit windows 8 thinking this could be the best step but the links are bad and the page Web said sorry loser at home...

Also no network, if I try to logging for the safe mode with networking, he returned to the screens of BSOD...

    HELP PLEASE

Toshiba has released a list with all Toshiba models supported for upgrading to Windows 10
    http://win10upgrade.Toshiba.com/swup...SPX?region=TEG

Satellite C660 PSC1GA is not in the list, which means that this model is not supported to win 10 and will not get win 10 drivers.

However the Win 10 must run on this device, because it meets the essential physical requirements.

I guess the BSOD loop arise due to some drivers which are not entirely compatible Win 10 and probably these drivers must be removed before making the Win 10 update.

To check the compatibility follow this procedure:

    • Right-click on the icon 'Get Windows 10' (on the right side of the taskbar), then click on "Check the status of your upgrade".
    • In the app to get Windows 10, click on the menu: (3 lines) and then click on "Check your PC.
    • Now you should see the list of compatibility issues

Also this kind of problem could be fixed by Microsoft update, as mentioned in this article:

  • Satellite L500-1DT: HDD Recovery of Win 7 is stuck in an endless loop

It's a so detailed bug report please bear with me.
If you can help, or can confirm that you have had the same thing happen to you, I will be grateful.

I've owned several Toshiba laptops before and I've even worked for Toshiba so worry, I like the machine. But I have a problem with his recovery software. I just bought a laptop Satellite L500-1DT with Windows 7 64 bit, on behalf of a non-techie who lives elsewhere. Since I know from experience that I have to sometimes panic calls from field in the sense of "it became too slow", "How do I get rid of the accumulated junk", "maybe he had a virus" and so on, the first thing I checked was ASR, which is how to bring the HD to "like new" condition.

So I started out in the machine, replied to the questions until I got in the appropriate operating system, then led the program "make a recovery DVD. Double layer DVD checked ok. With the freshly made DVDs, I swapped the HD for a spare part, I had (much less: only 40 GB instead of 320) and started the rescue DVD hoping it would fix my own system to the blank disc.

He did repartition the drive according to its schema, with more or less half the space for Windows and the other half for the data, including the recovery files. He did install the system in the Windows partition. It was then restarted in Windows 7 installed in order to complete the installation. There, the trouble began: an endless loop of reboots for hours until what I stopped it.

    Loop:
    * reset
    * black screen with bright logo 4 color windows «windows startup»
    * black screen with slight blade and "Setup prepares your computer for first use.
    * blue white screen "Welcome" with "please wait" and the crossbar with green blob, saying "the installation may take several minutes. Please do not interrupt or shut down the computer! »
    * blue screen saying it stops

    Repeat the above forever.

I saw him restart way more than 10 times over several hours. And whenever he's faking, that this is the first time she did it. Of course, this is not normal!

I tried to stop with ctrl-alt-del and the Task Manager, but the white screen would go even the Task Manager, making it difficult to kill any process or even inspect what they were on top. I stopped it by holding down the power button until it shuts. Then when it restarts it said that if I wanted safe mode. I tried. He went into the routine above and at one point he says that he could not proceed with the installation, if it was in safe mode. So he restarted in normal mode and then...! It is finally out of the endless loop!

Then he asked me all the usual language, record etc., questions as he did the first time I had turned on him. This seemed good. Finally, I walked into a newly installed operating system and everything seemed fine, except that I found out later that some programs that were there before were not installed.
With bravery bordering stupidity (*) I even Redid the procedure hard disk provided instead of my rescue: first I have nuked the windows partition, then I save the HD (with F8), not with the DVD that I had done. Result: similar rigmarole, with endless reboot.

After that I stopped it, it kind-of-worked, as above, but now some programs were lacking, such as the Toshiba DVD drive.

(*) motivated by: better try now with the computer here and all my tools and other computers ready at hand, that when the computer died at home of its owner, and that's the only thing left to try with me at the other end of a line call. Been there before.

Now, that specific (DVD player), that I could download it from the support page and it installed fine. But what else might be missing or not working not that I have not noticed? The restore process is clearly not working as it should.

I'm the first or only to whom it happens? I'm doing something wrong? Is there anything else I should try?

I need to make sure that the restore procedure works perfectly while I still have the computer in my hands. If not, there is no chance that I'll be able to do a remote reinstall for my non-techie, once I asks me to clean the laptop by phone a few months from now.

    Thanks in advance

[Update: just looking for the right place where I could post what I found that other people report the same problem.] This is definitely a bug in the software distributed for W7 - 64 overlay, not a problem isolated to my machine. See for example
http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=49421&TSTART=0 where the user kwarc described the same symptoms with a Satellite L505.

    Hello

First of all, I must say that I could recover my trouble free unit.
The installation of Win 7 went well and everything has been installed correctly.

    Back to you:
To me it looks like something wrong with installation maybe some HARD drive partitions were confues perhaps, HARD drive should again formatted, and then run the recovery procedure.
    You should test

    Regarding the DVD player:
As much as I know there is no DVD player for Win 7 64 bit. There are only available for Win 64 bit updated. If you need to install the DVD player for Win 7 32 bit version and then update using the patch released for Win7 64 bit.
