XP unbootable after using the recovery disk, but Linux will be

I have a laptop Toshiba Satellite L25-S1216. I had some bad virus, so I used the TOSHIBA Windows XP Recovery and Applications/drivers DVD provided with the computer when I bought it. I had used this once recovery DVDs or two before without problem, the last time was about 1 year ago. The recovery process seems to be okay: he seemed to format the disk and copy the files from the DVD to the hard drive. He copied about 5 600 MB hard disk for about 10 minutes and 40 seconds.

But the computer does not boot from the hard drive after using the recovery DVD. I tried the process several times and it does not start in Windows XP on the hard drive. I checked the settings in the BIOs to make sure he can start, but it does not start in Windows XP on the hard drive. All I get is a white screen with a horizontal blinking cursor, nothing else, no error message, nothing.

Then I got a copy of Linux (Fedora 14 live) on a CD and started on the computer from the CD R - W, DVD R drive. Then I loaded Fedora 14 hard disk. , I can boot into Linux (Fedora 14) of the fine to hard drive. In fact I use Linux to write this e-mail now. I also see the files that have been copied from the DVD recovery Windows XP on the hard drive, when I'm on Linux.

Does someone has an idea what could be the problem? The only difference between now and the last time I used the recovery about DVDs a year, is that I had to replace it internal CD R - W, DVD R drive, as a mechanical part was broken. I replaced it with the same exact model (TS-L462) who was in the computer when I got it is new.

Thank you

B.

Not sure how a restore xp cd may give you the option to start the recovery console.

With a regular xp, recovery cd / repair console is launched all simply by selecting the 'r' on the configuration screen.  Subsequently, the recovery console opens and takes you to the drive prompt.

In any case, what I suggest is to execute commands to drive at the command prompt that could make the drive bootable again.

the commands are:

Chkdsk /r

Fixboot

bootcfg /rebuild

FIXMBR

Normally, fixmbr running on a laptop is not recommended because it disables the hidden partition that contains the files for recovery.  Then re-enable it manually, is not easy. But since you have your on dvd, then you are lucky.

Problem climbed down after turning off suddenly. Initially could not get windows OS to work while I used the recovery disc. After it has been successfully used all of the computer has been cut and will not start (dead whole machine) despite the battery power and common alternative in place.

When you press power button / stop the led green lights for a second and then immediately turns off, no attempt to start engine.

    Hello

Are recovery disks actually wipe (formatting) and reload the operating system to factory State or just do one 'on top' reinstall leaving intact settings and data? You may have to the former in order to recover the functionality. If the process continues to fail, you should contact the manufacturer of recovery disks is an exclusive process which differs greatly between systems manufacturers. They do not use the method of standard installation of Windows Vista.

  • Satellite A300: Vista 64 bits after the new installation by using the recovery disk

I have a Toshiba Satellite A300 A300 / M00 and when I got it, it had Windows Vista Home Premium 32 Bit. But after awhile, I started to have problems so I decided to reinstall Vista on my laptop. After crossing with the product recovery media, my system become so 64-bit.

Was not my system suppose to have 32-bit when it was originally with her?
If no, then how can I install 32 bit once more on my laptop like 64-bit gives me problems with the installation of some of my programs.

If I need to buy a copy of Vista 32 Bit, where can I find the drivers for my system, because the product recovery media has all the drivers on this subject.

    Thank you for your time.

Hmm. Your ad is a little confusing.

Why would you say that Toshiba Recovery disk contains a version of Vista 64-bit?
    How did you check that?
From my experience, the Toshiba recovery disc still contains the preinstalled operating system.

Also as much as I know the new notebook from Toshiba are not delivered with the recovery disk, but with a HARD drive recovery option.
This option allows you to reinstall the OS from the second partition of HARD drive recovery.
Alternatively, you can use the preinstalled Toshiba recovery disc creator software to create the own recovery DVDs! And this recovery disk contains the same preinstalled OS!

    Hello

Go to the Sony website and download the latest Vista drivers for your model.

If the problem persists after that, you may have a hardware problem.

    Hello

If the HARD drive has been recognized by the BIOS, then you should boot from the recovery disk Toshiba in order to reinstall the operating system which has been pre-installed by Toshiba.

  • Satellite A210 - cannot use the recovery disk - error 20-DATA-048F

How can I fix my computer!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried to format the HARD disk until you try to use the recovery disk?
Sometimes, I read in the forum that this may solve the problems with the recovery disk and so you can take the Windows XP disc or another tool that is able to format the drive.

But after that, you have the Toshiba recovery disc. You are not able to use the HARD drive recovery feature.

  • Re: How to get Corel WinDVD without using the recovery disk?

The update for Corel WinDVD was rather messy and because of this some owners laptop uninstalled to try to install the new software. Now, we ended up with the only possibility of an image recovery, which, in practice, means losing the software.

Updates for the Bluetooth and wifi are also pretty messy.
Is isn´t possible to get this software back without using the recovery disk?

As you probably know recovery image installed on Toshiba laptops is a kind of software that includes the operating system, drivers, tools specific to Toshiba and utilities but also some additional software like antivirus or DVD player application.

All drivers and Toshiba tools and utilities are available on the Toshiba download page, and if you want to install the version of the OS, you can download each of them.
This additional software is not available for download. It's a kind of gift on the owner of the laptop because as the new owner, your machine must be ready to employment with full protection and opportunities to use multimedia content.

If you don't like it, you can remove the system and use your own applications.

Summary: this software cannot be downloaded separately and if you want to have it again, you must install original image of recovery designed for your machine.

If you have any other questions do not hesitate to ask.

  • Question aboput using the recovery disk

If I use the recovery disk, it will remove the Toshiba assist installed on my pc? I don't have the tools and disk utilities.

    Thank you

Using the recovery disc disc HARD integer will be erased but it is applied to factory as from the date of purchase. This means that everything will be installed again (all drivers, tools, and utilities).

The laptop will be as good as new. And of course Toshiba Assist is part of the recovery image and it will be there again.

  • How to recover files before using the recovery disk?

    Hello

I have a Toshiba Equium and when I turn it on it loads the screen where you log does not appear, it has a black screen with a mouse, and I need to use the recovery disk to get back to normal, but I don't want to format the hard drive that I have a lot of files so it is anyway to recover the files?

    Hello

In my opinion the easiest way is you remove the laptop HARD drive and put it in a box external HARD disk. Then, you can connect this external HARD disk to a different computer now and have access to the files on your HARD drive and you can perform a backup.

An alternative you can boot from a Linux Live CD and back up your files on a different USB devices.

  • Info satellite A210 171 what do I need before using the recovery disk?

    Hello

I have 1 recovery disk that came with my equium, have not used before.
It says on the back of the envelope of recovery disk 'insert the first diskette.

I guess there should be a second?

Also this info I need to provide during the installation process? as serial number?
All I have a black and white sticker that is on the side of the box, it came in, but it was so long ago.

I'm having a lot of problems with windows install does not and many others.
Windows updates do not work either and I tried to correct those, but a clean reinstall of the operating system has been recommended.
Now, at this point nothing will install because windows setup will not work.
So I think I wil lhave to try a clean install, but I do know that the cd player works.

I got a great run on this laptop, little slow today for my needs, but all very good product, purchased in 2007.
With a clean OS and 4 GB of ram that could last for years, cannot afford a new right now.
I really tried to avoid using a disc of recovery in the past, as I have never had problems until now.

    Thank you

I m wondering why you get this disc with your laptop, why? Because I do not have the recovery disk, but I had to create one using the Toshiba recovery disc creator software
But my laptop is more recent that your A210 might be the reason why you have this drive

I have created a recovery disk and I needed two-disc DVD, I think it depends on the size of the image file

    > Also what information I need to provide during the installation process? as serial number?
This is not necessary because your system has already been activated.

But I recommend you backup your personal data, because the recovery disk would format the whole HARD drive and you will lose the files.

PS: you should read other threads in product recovery forum!

  • Desktop HP pavilion s5-1540: using the recovery disk

I have the recovery disc I made when I got this pc.

Now, I need to use.  I started the pc with the disc, but nothing happened.

Can I get advice on how to use the recovery disk?

Note.  I'm not very computer savy.

I sent my pc in for repair to a place of repair no HP (insurance).  They have installed a generic operating system but there is no program file.  I want my pc as it was when I got it.

I can't get these disks to run.

    any help is much ajppreciated.

Insert the recovery disk 1 in the drive, restart the PC, when you see the HP logo screen start to type F9 on the keyboard, this should load the Boot Manager, and then highlight (using up/down keys) internal CD-ROM drive cd/dvd and press ENTER, it will now boot from the recovery disc 1 and we hope to start the restore process.

It is a long process not to disturb the tactile keys or pc, while he recovers, it will reboot several times on his own, you know when it is done when it asks you to set up the pc for first time use.

Make sure that the recovery discs are clean before you start.
