XPS 8500 and Windows 8.1

In December, I improved my 8500 to 8.1 Windows XPS (I got the banner "do you want to level" within the BONE, so why not?) and about 3 days after upgrading my XPS couldn't find the HARD drive.

After a painful 3 weeks of work with support, receiving 2 recovery USB keys and finally the DVD to reinstall the OS, drivers and software (which have all failed to recover the HARD disk) Dell's Support convinced me the problem was the 8500 with Windows 8.1 for the hybrid SSD/HDD RAID drivers (which I couldn't find any mention of in the literature of the machine when I was doing) the original purchase,...)

Long story short: Dell Support had me reformat the disk, reinstall the OS, the data has been lost (luckily I backed up to NAS) and finally my XPS 8500 was back running with Windows 8.  I learned to avoid the upgrade to 8.1 "until drivers are available".

Well, my support is now expired and I don't see any new drivers XPS 8500 available on the support pages.

Has anyone successfully upgraded to WIndows 8.1 on their XPS 8500 yet?  Are you still running with the hybrid propulsion system?

Thanks in advance!

I've updated all the way to Windows 8.1 update 1 on my XPS 8500 (SSD/HDD + Radeon HD 7870) without any hardware problem. That said, I believe that what can happen is you install a bad driver from Windows Update or too many updates installed at the same time.

Try this:

-Install all the updates of Windows 8 except the 8.1 update and hardware driver updates.

-When the above is complete, install the 8.1 update.

  • How can I install my printer model Dell 720 on my new Dell XPS 8500 with windows 7

I have the software for my Dell 720 printer, but it will not install on my new Dell XPS 8500 with windows 7.  It works fine on my Dell Dimension 3000 with windows XP.  I would use this printer with my new system

Dell is not a Windows 7 driver for this printer.  The closest thing they have is a driver for Vista 32 bit.  So your options are to (1) Download 32-bit Vista driver and try to install in compatibility mode, (2) use XP Mode if you have the professional or Enterprise version of Windows 7 Ultimate, (3) buy another printer.

You can download the Vista 32-bit driver

  • Studio XPS 1647 and Windows 8

    Hello

I want to install Microsoft Windows 8 on my Dell Studio XPS 1647. It will work? I checked the download page for this computer and there is no drivers for this laptop Windows 8... Has anyone tried installing Windows 8 on Studio XPS?

    Thanks for the help.

    Hi Radpl,

The Studio XPS 1647 has not been tested by Dell with Windows 8. However if you use Windows 7 on your system avoid compatibility problems.

After the official launch of Windows 8, October 26, 2012, drivers may be available on the Dell support site. However, you can always check the site of the manufacturer for the appropriate drivers. You can also consult the following link for more information on the upgrade of Windows 8. http://Dell.to/SyrDsU You can also see the article: 575111 on www.support.dell.com for upgrade of Windows 8 help.

  • XPS 8500 and Altec Lansing ACS340 speaker connection

Just the XPS8500. Had a Dell Dimension 5150 connected to Altec Lancing speakers. These speakers have a line of output to the subwoofer at the entrance of the computer. The problem is the 8500 has several entries and none seem to work to get the speakers works. I don't have his helmet, but still no speakers. Am I forced by adding another card to get sound on this PC?

Well, the speakers were not fried.

    > You will need to connect the green cable that connects the "INPUT" on the subwoofer in the green audio out port on your computer

It was OK, although there are 3 plug-ins at this time on the subwoofer. I had not disconnected it during the installation of new computer. Among the plug ins are taken minis, one is equipped with an RCA plug. It is that I was using ran toward my card its set up in the old Dell 5150. Once I found a mini plug mini plug cord and used the green plug in, they came to life.

  • Where to find Windows 8 key of my XPS 8500 for reinstalled

    Hello

I bought a new dell XPS 8500 and came with preinstalled Windows 8.

But in other to get a copy of Windows 8 Microsoft backup, I need to find that key

(Usually, the Office have a sticker with the key has written on this subject, but one I got everything on its surface have...)

Is that the key is stored somewhere on the computer, or either, I need to disassemble the Office to search inside?

    Thank you

    Hi Gabriellw,

Windows 8 systems are pre-activated from the factory. Once the PC is turned on, it remains active unless there is significant physical changes such as the motherboard or hard drive replacement. If you reinstall Windows on the computer, are there no need product key as it is encrypted on the motherboard of the factory.

If you just need the recovery of Windows 8 disk, you can create one for your computer from Dell backup and restore. For more information, refer to link: http://bit.ly/12kIydx

  • WIN8 64-bit driver Intel Rapid Storage v.11.6.0.1030, A00 XPS 8500 download fails

    Material: XPS 8500, OS: Windows 8, 64 - bit.

I am trying to download the latest driver Intel rapid storage (v.11.6.0.1030, A00) for 64-bit Windows 8 from the page downloads and drivers, because the version currently installed (11.5.0.1207) has a memory leak in the service of IAStorDataMgrSvc.exe (it is close to 2 GB of memory using at present and continues to increase). Intel forums suggest the update or revert the driver.

When I try to download driver Intel Rapid Storage v.11.6.0.1030, A00, called RST_Intel_W84_A00_Setup - 5GPDD_ZPE.exe, the option 'Download single file' gives the error message:

"Sorry, the requested file could not be downloaded.

An internal error has occurred. Please try again later. »

When I try to download with the option "Download Manager", it gives the error message:

"The file has been corrupted during the download."

Please can you advise me how to do a download of this driver?

You can also get this file here: Intel IRST.  Dell sometimes has trouble with his page drivers and downloads.

EDIT: by the way; someone seems to have noticed the problem as there are has now two links to the file on the page downloads and drivers.  The first link seems to work, while the latter leads to the page you originally found.

  • Has no updated BIOS - Dell XPS 8500

I went to the product page Dell for my computer - Dell XPS 8500 and ran the scan to check the updates.  3 updates, one of them for the BIOS.  I ran the update and launched the update of the BIOS.  To halfway through she seemed to have hung up and my machine froze.  I left for an hour, came back and no still no luck.

So I rebooted the machine, and of course now it does not start upward.  I have power and can hear the fan but no lights on the box and no input screen.

Looking in the manual and on this forum, I tried to reset the BIOS jumpers and remove the CMOS battery.  When I rebooted I saw lights on the box this time, but it stops after 30 seconds and now back to the same problem.

From what I've read on this forum I'm SOL unless I have buy a new motherboard.

Just thought I would check to see if anyone has any other suggestions.  If not, where can I get a new motherboard for this?  The product page for my model it does not list as an option...

    Thanks for your help!

    Jason

When your warranty has expired? If it has expired less than 6 months ago, you pourriez able to get Dell to solve this problem, assuming they can get the Board of Directors. They had a policy to replace a Board - only once - if she does not have a Dell BIOS update within 6 months after the end of the warranty. I don't know if this policy still exists.

Those are all different revisions of the same motherboard. I don't know what the differences are. They could be as simple as a different provider for one of the components on the card all the way to a change in the circuit layout.

Maybe Dell spare parts can talk you about the differences among the 3 or at least tell you which is the most recent revision, even if they do not have boards the...?

All three supports H77 chipset which is a key issue.

Look at your motherboard for the thumbnail see what version you have now. If you don't know the specific differences, you can get one that is the same version, assuming that it is one of the possible choices.

You should look elsewhere if the Impact is not the revision you want and/or for price comparisons. And always ask if the Board is new, used, refurbished and warranty.

  • Screws for msata for XPS 8500 card card mother screwposts (informative)

I ordered a Crucial msata for my XPS 8500 card.  Installing an msata card requires two screws to CAPSA map for the two screwposts on the motherboard.  Crucial does not include screws and neither does Dell.  Working with Dell I was able to identify the specifications for the required screw neeeded anchor map msata in positions.  Without the screws an msata card will fall just out of the slot msata.  For any of you out there with the same need is the specification of the screw:

    SCR:M2X3:KSH:MS:BLO

The screws are tiny metric screws and without the specs, they are incredibly hard to find.  No specification on page 58 of the Dell XPS 8500 manual, which is where the diagram is for installing an msata card.  Dell is expected to add this info in a footnote on page 58.

Note to Dell's Support staff who might be reading this: this specification of screws for the use of other customers of the file.

I bought a portable screw Kit made by Rhino Fry Electronics which had the screws in it. These are screws x3mm m2. The kit is the AS-11 model number. Bar code is 8 54190 00103 9.  Rhino has a websit - www.rhino-tek.com.  You can also find them on ebay.  Anyway, I put a map of msata Crucial 256 MB in my XPS 8500 and am a happy camper with her.

  • Dell XPS 8500 with 1 GB AMD Radeon HD 7570 - how to connect two monitors or?

Hi, I got my Dell XPS 8500 today with the 1 GB AMD Radeon HD 7570.

Before buying the office, I read online that the AMD Radeon HD 7570 supports Eyefinity.   Eyefinity is supposed to be capable of supporting 4 monitors using the HD 7570 map by the description here: http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/graphics/7000/7570/Pages/radeon-7570.aspx#2

When you look at the photos of the Dell XPS 8500 online I thought that Eyefinity support was to use a display in addition to the DVI port Port.   Specifically, I thought that a monitor has been supported by DVI monitors while 4 thru two supported using an active connection to the view port using a product like the DisplayPort Accell UltraAV K087B-005 / 3 x multi-monitor DVI - D single-link adapter.

To my surprise the graphics card came with an HDMI port, not a display port and I believe that HDMI port is a connection from one to the other, and not one of many display connection.   Maybe someone can correct me if I am wrong on this point.   But if I'm not wrong then, this would imply that, at most, the Dell XPS 8500 with the AMD Radeon HD card 7570 can support up to only 2 monitors (one DVI port) and the other HDMI port instead of 4 monitors as described on the above link.

Others would agree with this statement?

Note that the Dell XPS 8500 also has a VGA connector on it but I tested it using a monitor on VGA and a monitor on the DVI connection and the computer that reported as an invalid monitor config.   Probably because the VGA and DVI connections are originally the same video display as connect two monitors to display even has no logical sense.

I have not tested the HDMI port for the second monitor again mainly because I don't have a spare HDMI cable on site at the present time.   I'll probably buy one tomorrow unless I see the comments of my post, specifying that a second monitor can be moved through the HDMI port on the AMD Radeon HD 7570 map...   I'd be surprised if that were the case (1 monitor system would be quite restrictive), but it is difficult to say with certainty, because the VGA and DVI connections at the same time have been marked by the computer as an invalid configuration...

Any thoughts on the different ways to configure multiple monitors with the XPS 8500 and the 1 GB AMD Radeon HD 7500 is appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Doug

If the card is not a display port is not an eyefinity card and cannot stand 3 monitors... it will be 2 monitors, no problem... I couldn't find anywhere on the site of Dell, where he says that the card was eyefinity... If you want 3 assumption of monitors you can buy a video card that supports.

  • Adding disk (XPS 8500)

Hello, I am looking for the Dell XPS 8500, and it comes with an SSD of 32 GB and 2 TB HARD drive and I was wondering if it is possible to add a hard drive of 1 to 3 rd.

    That is right.

If you want Dell to set up the machine and then control the machine with 256 GB SSD that will have the OS already installed + 2 TB hard drive. . Plug and play with full support on their installation.

There are a few changes, you need to do in the BIOS in the different stages of a plant itself and a search of this site has them in detail.  If you feel challenged, better to leave Dell to do.

However, if you choose to do it yourself, you can buy the machine without the msata SSD 32 GB, just buy the disk of 1 TB or 2 TB when you order the machine.  The DVAR would be the Crucial CT256M4SSD3.  You will need a few screw M2 x 3mm mounting which may or may not come with the drive.  It will take place at the 6 GB/s specified.   CT256M4SSD3 and CT3256232 (XPS 8500 recommended upgrade) are the same drive, if you see in searches on the web.

  • Dell xps 8500 replacing GPU

I have a dell xps 8500 and I think to upgrade my GPU of my radeon hd 7570 to a MSI GTX 670. However I've heard things about the bios does not not with some graphic cards. My bios version is Dell Inc. A09 if anyone could tell me if this GPU will work it will be very appreciated.

You can go to this thread HERE.  Some raise the GTX 670, but nothing was ever confirmed.  For other cards like the MSI GTX 660, apparently a video bios updated was published by MSI to make it work.  He's going in all directions.

Most likely, you need to upgrade your diet also with the GTX 670.  I not comfortable also buy a $370 video card and then another $100 for a power supply and have the things to not work.  If your upgrade for the games, a HD 7570 is obviously no card game.  Therefore, we can be happy with something else that works with your diet like the 660 GTX and have only half of the cost.  Just a thought, and there are many others who also works as the HD-7870.  My choice would be the HD 7850 for $180, especially if you don't have a monitor very high-end to match with it.  It just seems to be too many issues raised on the XPS 8500.

  • Dell XPS 8500 PSU

-Very well, so I have a Dell XPS 8500 and I wannt update my GPU. I just need to upgrade from my diet. So, I have a few questions.

    A. What are the dimensions of the PSU that comes with it.

    According to this site: http://www.911forpcs.com/xps-8500.html

they are 6.00 "X 3.25" X 5.5 "(WxHxD). I want to verify that this is true.

    B. I was looking for a 750w PSU, I know I won't need that much, but I would like to have a few extra. So my other question can someone suggest me a PSU that adapts to the dimension XPS 8500 PSU.

I have 2 that caught my attention, but I'm not sure if the dimensions space correctly 100%.

    EVGA SuperNOVA 750

I guess that the EVGA does not because of the length is too long.

    Thermaltake SMART series

Well I don't check the dimensions of the PSU original because I seem to have lost my tape measure instrument nor do I have a rule for the moment autour, but I was able to get this food to fit well.

    http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16817153174

Enough length to fit well, not too close at the height of the motherboard wise and wise length fits well too. Have the ziptied cords additional and nestled under my CD player better than I can.

    http://PUU.sh/cmhy7/dfc97550e0.PNG

    http://PUU.sh/cmhKg/9758c4f972.PNG

I'll post in here and I'll change my OP with the dimensions of the PSU original when I find my tape measure instrument or get a ruler.

  • XPS 8500 - replacement HDD and SSD

I'm looking to upgrade of storage on my my Dell XPS 8500... My question here is twofold:

    1. I want to replace my current 2 TB HDD (disk storage) with a 4 TB or 5 TB of HARD drive. I will be able to use and see the full 4-5 to? Or is this a case where I will not be able to use the entire disk or will need to score? Y at - it an update of the BIOS that will allow me full access to training?
    2. I am also looking to replace my mSATA 256GB SSD (boot drive) with a 500 GB mSATA SSD... will it be any problem read this disk after installation (plan to do a clean install of Windows and reload my programs)?

Thanks for your help. Hoping to update soon, but did not buy until I knew what I was getting myself into.

Its a fairly recent machine with a UEFI BIOS, so it should be good... If you have already upgraded to Windows 10 then your system is already a unit of 10 windows and you should be able to clean the Windows 10 installation on the new SSD. If you haven't you should upgrade now as free upgrade expires tomorrow. #

You must use the SATA AHCI operation. I assume you have your system already set up this way as you already have a 256 GB mSATA.
