XPS 8700 - incompatibility eSATA card

Hello

I have read elsewhere on the incompatibility between a Dell XPS 8500 and a PCIe 1 X eSATA card that the user had installed.  The user declares that the card was not recognized by Device Manager and thus went inoperative.  I don't remember the problem is resolved.

Of course, I didn't read about this problem when I too lived the same problem on my XPS 8700.  I installed a new card eSATA PCIe 1 x slot and Bingo! -absolutely nothing.

I don't think that the PF to this problem are relevant because the XPS specification is concerned there is no card on board.  Updated XPS to update its BIOS bit after I ordered new computer (about 2 weeks).

Does anyone have any ideas or solutions to try?

Is that what someone else has similar problems and, if so, Dell "on the case"?

Best regards

Mike

There are 2 questions and none of them are associated with Dell.

Safe Boot must be off CSM and legacy with Roma option on.

The card must be PCI-E version 2.1 or 3.0 to work. The power supply of the bus and clock speed are not compatible to 1.0 or 2.0.

OLDER PCI - E 1.0 and 2.0 cards will be "seen" because the PCI-E bus will not downclock to version

1.0 on the X 1 slot.

I hope someone can help me with these questions without having to reset the pc and reinstall, all over again, that the problem still exists in other cases (I don't have a copy of the installation of programs pre-installed dells so...). • XPS 8700 and Sapphire Radeon HD 7870 OC graphics card

I saw a thread on here stating that the AMD Radeon 7870 was compatible with the XPS 8500, so I guess that the overclockee of this card Sapphire version would work in my XPS 8700.  I inserted the card into my computer and connected the two power connectors 6 pins.  When I rebooted the computer, he made five beeps short and then put under tension (without the Dell splash screen, I think).  Restart again (and hear the same five beeps), I pressed F2 to enter the BIOS, but it wouldn't let me get into the BIOS.  The third time that I restarted, I just let it start and then after about half an hour of use, the computer is frozen on a blue screen (not BSOD). I turned off the unit and do not have reverse.

I chatted with a few guys from Dell, which said that the five beeps meant that it was a problem of compatibility of video card, but he could not say more than that and pushed to me to contact Dell sales to buy a compatible card (no thanks).

Anyone can check that the five beeps are told?  I hate to have to return this card to where I bought it and I'm not sure I can.  I get beeps if there is a driver problem that I'm missing?  Or beeps always mean a hardware problem? I'd get a beep if my diet was too weak?  Other thoughts?  Someone at - it no good they know maps work on the 8700 XPS?

There was many problems reported with some video cards and the XPS compatibility 8300, 8500, and now the 8700.

Make sure that you uninstall the drivers for video cards before you remove them and put in a new card.  Make sure that the power supply is disconnected and you have pressed and held the power button for at least 15 seconds.  You can also try to remove the CMOS battery.  Then install new video card, replace the battery and plug it back the power cord.

In addition, connect the monitor to the integrated graphics card and restart.  Press F12 or F8 to access the Start Menu. Under the Start Menu, there should be a 'Change Boot Mode Setting' setting. This parameter will have the possibility to turn UEFI Secure Boot on or Off, change it to Off.  It is a common problem in Windows 8 that occurs when you try to add another video card due to conflict with Secure Boot and new motherboards UEFI where you post or get the beep codes.

  • This card will fit in my XPS 8700?

I recently bought an XPS 8700 and thought to upgrade his graphics card. I'm looking at one is the EVGA 4 GB Geforce GTX 770 here:

The card is listed with the dimensions of 12.9 x 9.5 x 2.9 inches. After looking at the inside of the case I am afraid that this card does not. Can someone help me with the question of whether this card will fit in a case of XPS 8700?

Either by the way, I am aware of the problems of compatibility with the 8700 UEFI and have already bought a beefier power supply for a new card.

    Thanks for the help!

    Hello NinthLayer,

Dell XPS 8700 has never been tested with the EVGA 4 GB GeForce GXT 770. However, few users have installed nVIdia GeForce GTX 770 2 GB successfully on their XPS 8700. The nVIdia GeForce GTX 770 2 GB size is 10.3 "x 4.3" x double Slot. So before you buy the card, I suggest you take the computer to a local store and check if the graphics card works on the system.

Please note: the EVGA 4 GB GeForce GXT 770 requires minimum of POWER supply 600W with PCI-E power 2 connector x 8 pins.

    I hope this helps!

  • Dell XPS 8700 Windows 10 questions with SD card reader

Hi, I bought a new Dell XPS 8700 three months ago.  It comes with Windows 8, even if I asked for preinstalled Win10.  The Win10 upgrade process was fairly straightforward.  However so far three times the SD card reader stopped working.  I fix it by reinstalling the drivers.  Its not working again and my USB stopped working also.  Is there a background process that interferes with USB / SD card drivers?  Anyone else noticed this behavior.

    Rgds Frank

    You can try this:

Go into Device Manager, and then double-click the entry for your SD card reader. Assuming that he has one, click on the power management tab, and uncheck the box 'allow the PC turns off... ». Now, do the same thing in Manager of devices for all your USB root hubs.

Then go to the options screen to win 10 powers, click on advanced settings and turn off hybrid sleep. Reboot and see if that helps.

  • XPS 8700 Windows 7 64 card reader disappears!

Often ill put a SD or CF card into the internal card reader and it disappears from my computer and Device Manager.  No just went wrong! The only way to recover is system sleep and power cord to "unplug". Works for 2 or 3 times and the same thing happens. Dell tried a few software and settings of bugs but that did not work. Then the sent me a new media card reader but same thing happens. Now, they want to replace motherboard and power supply, but I doubt that a is too. Any help or ideas would be great.

Yes, a very common problem with my XPS 8700. Has been through a lot of readers of cards, motherboards, etc.

    (1) make sure you eject the card reader in the computer drives; the old 'My Computer'. Yes, of course, it's elementary, but several times I just grabbed the first card reader. It applies to remove it from your camera. Don't forget that the camera is turned off before removing.

    2) the "fix"

It can be irritating, but it you have to remove the side panel and pull the wire connecting the card reader to the motherboard to the wide where it attaches to the motherboard. Then just reconnect and the card reader drives will reappear.

Technically you should do with the machine power off and unplugged power cord, but I use one of these long slender beak pliers to reach in and get a firm grip on the connector. Just a quick pull and a quick replacement. I would look at the readers to return what they have always done for me. I don't know if it is successful with the machine off. You must be very spastic to not be able to disconnect and reconnect the small connector without touching anything else. A light is useful depending on the ambient light.

Personally, my CPU is just off the right side of my office, so I always leave the left in Panel enough air flow, but it is certainly easy enough to remove.

It is difficult to say how long it will last. Finally, it will fail again may 20 all-purpose or more, but I keep the needle forceps nearby. A 2 minute job.

    Good luck!

I have a desktop XPS-8700. I added a second DVD burner and a second hard drive in the box. I wonder if there is enough power to quietly add a sound card. I'm sure there is an available slot. I have not to add anything like that, but the two discs I mentioned. Neither made any other changes.

  • XPS 8700 GT635 GPU overheating

    Hello.

I bought my XPS 8700 two years ago and it was fine, until a few months ago.

My GPU has begun to overheat when I'm on every game. Even games that I played before has no overheating GPU are now against overheating it. I can't play any games because this causes the FPS to abandon dramastically. I want to know what is all at once the cause of overheating and I already cleaned the CPU, but I don't know a lot about hardware, so I need help.

    My system features:

    Video card: Nvidia GT635

  • GeForce GTX 970/980 on XPS 8700

Hello, I have XPS 8700, which came with OEM GTX 745. I think it passes to the Geforce GTX 970 or 980. These word on 8700 XPS video cards?

I am particularly concerned, because system recommended for 970 power is 500 W to nVidia's specifications, total power of XPS8700 is 460 w. Has anyone installed GTX 970 or 980 on 8700 XPS?

    Hey Ryocchin,

The GTX970 or the GTX980 will work in terms of being able to connect through PCI-express port.  Where you might encounter a problem is with the physical size of the map.  I know that some 970 models can be 12 inches, I guess the 980 years can grow according to the solutions of cooling for these exotic cards.

The other piece of the puzzle is to replace the power supply.  A 460W pourrait be authorized as a basis of suppliers GPU their system requirements on the assumptions made about the power draw of the entire system & always shoot a bit on the high side.  But if your computer is a few years old is probably not turn off 460 watts.  So I recommend a new power supply.  EVGA, Corsair, XFXm and Antec have all been good for me over the years.  If you want to simulate a modular PSU that you'll save tangles of cables.

So those are the two big things to look for: physical space for the graphics card (although I'm sure that a XPS8700 will hold a 970 without problem a lot) and a new power supply.

The Dell service manual is here if you want to get an idea of what it looks like to replace components:

  • XPS 8700, out-of-box speaker 5.1 audio problems

I had ongoing audio problems since the purchase of my XPS 8700 8.1 desktop system of 64-bit Windows on January 15 and set up with my speaker Altec Lansing 5.1 system existing. The strangest thing happens when I play audio from different sources.

When I use YouTube programs and music of Windows, Dell MaxAudio Audio Pro software plays audio perfectly thanks to 5.1 speakers. But, when I listen to music via iTunes or try to watch a movie from a DVD factory in my factory installed DVD player, the audio plays through my two front speakers.

In addition to the issue with my 5.1 speakers, I have constant audio noise/hiss through my speakers. But, it is stranger than most of the time when I move my mouse quickly, I can hear the movement of the mouse in my speakers. The 'mouse noise' is minimal, but you can certainly hear coming from the speakers.

I spent the greater part of the past month trying to find a solution to these problems - especially the sound of hissing sound coming from my speakers and iTunes music only 2 front speakers and not my sub or rear speakers (sometimes audio will be same break in iTunes).

I had no chance whatsoever to find a "fix for the problem of iTunes/5.1 speakers, so I'd appreciate any help on this. About whistling noise emitting speakers, here's what I what I met so far, but I have yet to try it (this solution came from Google):

SOLUTION: Go to the Realtek site (www.realtek.com.tw) > click on downloads in main menu > click on High Definition Audio Codecs (software) > accept the advice > download 64-bit Vista, Windows7, Windows8, Windows8.1 driver only. Version R2.73. I clicked and downloaded the link US2: 64bit_Win7_Win8_Win81_R273.exe (103MB). I then ran the installation program which required two reboots to install completely.

ITS OWN PURE! The hiss is now gone when listening with my speakers. Moreover, the Dell Audio MAXX Audio Pro, which is delivered on the Dell XPS works always. I don't know what hidden feature, I could have lost, but I consider that it is resolved.

Someone has already tried this solution but who has experienced similar problems than me? I hate to be "Jackin ' ' autour with new software download and edit the factory specifications on my brand new computer. But I want my computer to work properly with my 5.1 system speakers, which worked well with my previous Dell desktop computer which was in the process of Windows 7.

One last question, can someone please clarify for me if the Dell Audio MaxAudio Pro software is a product of Realtek? I sent a support one or twice with the solution (Google) I listed above, but nothing but crickets from Realtek Realtek. Customer service poor, to date.

I thank you in advance for any help and solutions/workaround solutions, you can suggest.

It is their integrated (Realtek ALC3861 audio 7.1) product with an overlay software from Dell. So yes, you must use their site to get the latest audio driver. Our driver is very old, 20/11/13. I used the same audio driver of detail on my Alienware X 51. Works very well. I added instructions in the FAQ.
    * Go to the top of the Audio card to the desktop computer
    * Open Desktop Audio FAQ
Open the Office PC Audio drivers
    * Read "Update Realtek HD Audio"

Was originally a XPS 8300, he had problems and replaced by a 8700 XPS Dell.

Come to know that I have static detach audio from the motherboard. Troubleshoot-performed on mine... two different monitors with speakers and a 55 '' HDTV LG. Static on each of them with two different auxiliary cables. Then connected to the monitor and LG TV via HDMI to my video card and voila... a crystal clear sound. Not static.

Dell has decided to try to solve my problems of its motherboard remotely by phone and basically broke my Audio drivers. She has uninstalled the driver and tried to reinstall and now he repeats down in big red letters.

When I click in Device Manager there is not an explanation mark... it's just appearing as a generic «High Definition audio» description Before that he was showing the Realtek Audio driver as it should.

Dell sent a replacement motherboard and the technician just installed it at home but they cannot always get the driver to install properly and she wants me to blow my BONES together. Ugh!

Everyone knows these before driver with integrated sound hardware XPS 8700 problems and if so, how should I do?

I would avoid blowing my PC if I can, I just went through the pain of a data migration and install OS and program news.

    * Uninstall the generic "High Definition Audio" device in Device Manager
    * Go here and do the automatic update of Intel
    * Reset
    * Realtek the only update from the same page
