    Hello!

Just bought a XPS 8700 and would like to Exchange hard-shore out and put in Samsung 840 Pro SSD in. Could use some indications, there isn't an msata on this forum, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Something special, I do in the bios that select the new drive?

the OS will install on another drive? If so, just do a backup and re - install the new drive? or do I need to get a new copy of the retail of windows 8 to do this?

Opening it will not void the warranty that I can upgrade the disk and memory, but if I have problems I send to dell in the State of origin in that I bought right?

    Hi chrisyackulic,

mSATA reader uses the SSD technology to make the system faster. If you replace the mechanical hard drive normal with hard drive SSD technology TSRI functionality could be cancelled.

However, to use the SSD on the system please change the SATA mode in BIOS to AHCI TSRI. You will need a reinstall the operating system to install on the system drive. The backup image will not work because the SATA operation mode is different with a previous hard disk.

You can use the link below to place a request to reinstall the operating system drive.

    http://Dell.to/TmYffg

If you are not able to make a request to the disk from the link above, then please send me a private message with serial number of the computer, name registered in the purchasing system and email address so that I can check out what we can do. To send a private message, click on my name, and choose Start conversation.

Replacing the hard drive or memory on the system will not void the warranty.

  • XPS 8700 RAM upgrade - do not use full capacity

I decided to get max out my RAM on my XPS 8700 to 32 GB. After booting, I am only using one half of the total. I checked the system settings to see if there is something that needs to be defined, but I don't see anything that will help.

Is there a material DIM switch or something of RAM is correctly adjusted? I looked in the user guide but cannot see how to swap the RAM modules.

If you have windows 7 home, your authorized max is memory 16 GB.  If you have Pro, you can go up to 192 GB.  Windows 8 and higher increased the memory limit.

If it does not, you may have some bad RAM.

  • XPS 12 memory upgrade

XPS 12 memory can be improved?  So far, I can't get a direct answer from Dell.

    Hi jb3962,

    Welcome to the community,

The XPS 12 (live RAM) memory is part of the system board. Because the memory is part of the system board, it cannot be upgraded as a separate module.

    Thank you

  • Problems with the new XPS 8700 and upgrades...

    Hello

    I need help!

I just bought an XPS 8700 a week ago (maybe more).

It came with: pre installed with Windows 7 Pro, installation / upgrade disc for Windows 8 Pro

(Pentium 4790 16 GB RAM 4 GB Nvidia GTS 745 VC)

A few days after I ordered an ssd of m Cruscial 480 GB for her, with a WD 1 TB HARD drive.

My problem is centered around the M SSD.

The Crucial SSD of M IS compatible with this system?

I try to set it up and the system hangs.

I can't use ready boost, or it will be BSOD.

I want to load the OS on the SSD m and use the other 2 HDD as data drives.

My other question is: System running Windows 7, but comes with a Win 8 restore disc?

Its rights to licensed Windows Pro 8.1 with downgrade to Windows 7 Professional. You will need make the recovery using Dell backup media and restore your original disc. Theres no need to change the BIOS settings earlier.

After that, remove your hard drive and insert your mSATA SSD. Use the Dell backup and recovery USB to reinstall Windows on the mSATA SSD. Once you are satisfied with the installation of Windows on the drive mSATA remove it and insert the HARD drive, use DISKPART OWN while using your DVD of Windows 8.1. Then insert the mSATA SSD, Windows 7 starter and initialize the HARD disk, implemented as a data reader.

  • XPS 8700 GPU upgrade

My PC is the 8700 XPS, described in my GIS unit. Non-SE.

Double boots both Windows 7 Pro and 8, secure boot disabled.

Current GPU is the AMD Radeon 7570 (OEM) that comes with it. I see this same pattern can also run the NVIDIA Geforce GTX 645 (OEM). It's basically a quick replacement? Obviously, the PSU is OK, as the POWER 460 block is the same in all models.

Will be one of the 6 pins that is not in use, it will take if yes, is it important that we? I noticed that they are numbered differently, probably just to label a connection. I found them hidden behind the other sons.

Finally, if everything is compatible, should I use the current Dell supplied drivers for the stability of the system (all the installed drivers are provided Dell), or I let NVIDIA auto detect & install?

This has been a great PC for me, the XPS 8700 packs a lot of power in a mid-size Tower. Just, I want better video & don't want to deal with swaps of power supply, which could void my warranty.

Thank you very much for any help given.

Unfortunately, you will need to move to a GTX 660 to get a display port.  I'd go with the HD 7770 HERE that is actually better than the GTX 650 for about the same cost.

  • XPS 9100 memory upgrade

REPOST: For some reason, only half of my message was posted.  =/

    Hello world

I had a moment hard to find the info I need so anything goes here:

I have this old computer dell with mobo 05DN3X.  XPS 9100 built for me around Sept 2010.

Can what ram I use that will work with this system?  In another forum, someone recommended ripjaws: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231356&cm_re=rip_jaws-_-20-231-356-_-Product#top

    Or 24gbs: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231359

It seems faster, but it should still work right?

    Also: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145350

    That looks cooler.

All this work would be in my system?  I was reading on low and high density memory

and someone said that my system will take more low density.  How do you determine that?

Any idea is appreciated and I thank you!

Just for the follow-up of this:

Well, not really responded to my question. =/

I took the advice of another forum and bought the 24 GB rip jaws of gskill days before your answer.  I've also sent GSKILL, and they said it would work.  I got it in less than 24 hours and presto, they work magically.  Males only about 120 for 24gbs of 1333mzh of ram DDR2.

A nice update to this older machine.   Motherboard x 58 therefore the type of memory I need is this older type of low density.

Come on Dell, you guys I have to do better than that.  There should be some sort of info in our profile system (when you type in the number of service) which shows clearly who and what kind of improvements we can make.   Maybe I would just bought from you rather than spend hours looking on other forums.

  • Dell XPS 8700 GPU Upgrade

    Hello.

I recently got the XPS8700 with Intel Core i7 3.4 GHz, 24 GB Ram, GeForce GT GPU 635.

The PC works fine, however, I really want to upgrade graphics card, to get the best experience.

I was looking at the GPU was the Radeon R9290.

I realized that my diet was not strong enough to provide this GPU.

-The power supply I wanted to get was a series of Builder CX750W link or http://www.corsair.com/en/power-supply-units/cx-series-psu/cx750-80-plus-bronze-certified-power-supply.html-

-The link of the GPU or http://rog.asus.com/269042013/graphics-cards-2/the-asus-r9-290-graphics-card/

My questions are, PSU, I want to get compatible with the GPU, is my PC big enough to keep the GPU is compatible with my motherboard GPU.

    Thank you.

To answer your question, yes the 290 r9 will start.  Its a fit tight, but it will fit in there which is great.  How can I know what... Well I have one on my 8700 :) and I would not recommend anything less the 750 watt for a power supply when executing this GPU.

  • Dell XPS 8500 - memory upgrade problems

I bought a Dell XPS 8500 nine a couple of years.  It came with 8 GB of memory (2-4 GB DDR 3 1600).  Recently, I picked up two sticks of 8 GB, DDR-3 new, 1600.  In total, this should give me 24 GB of memory.

Currently, housing 1 and 3 are using 4 GB sticks and slot 4 has a key of 8 GB.  If I try to stick the other stick in slot 2, the system does not start.  I assumed it was because a bad stick, so I went back to the store and I replaced it, but the problem persists.  I can get a total of 16 GB, which is recognized in the system.  According to Dell, and Crucial, this system should support up to 32 GB.

This system only supports the memory to some total amounts, as the 16/08/32?  I checked my BIOS is updated as well.

I'd appreciate any comments on it.  Thank you!

If you consult the technical data sheet, the only supported RAM configs are: 2, 4, 8, 12, 16, 32 GB.

    Read this.

EDIT: And modules are best installed in pairs, so 2 x 4 GB + 1x8GB is not an optimal config.

  • XPS 8700 does not start after the upgrade memory RAM

    Dear members of the Forum.

I have a XPS 8700 with the following specifications:

    Core i7 4770 k

    2 TB HARD DRIVE

    16 GB of Ram (4 x 4 GB)

    NVidia GTX 660 (1.5 GB)

    BIOS version A10 (later).

RAM sticks in my current system are all Micron Tech (here) 4 GB DDR3 SDRAM PC3 12800 240pin 1.5V 1600 MT/s.

I had two RAM modules of tech Micron (here) 8 GB DDR3 SDRAM PC3 12800 240pin 1.5V 1600 MT/s so that I can move on to a total of 24 GB.

After the discussion here and here, I installed the modules in slots 1 & 2 (both white) so that the system is not able to start. Not even got the bios screen. I also tried 3 & 4 configuration (both black) I ran my computer with the two 8 GB sticks only, with the same unfortunate results.

I also saw that it is a normal problem of compatibility problems between the types of ram, but I consider that this is not the case. In addition, bad positioning of the modules is not also the case because if I put my old ram glue the computer starts normally.

I used tape you will static isolation.

Is the problem, a problem of compatibility between my computer and the RAM modules?

If the RAM is damaged does these effects (do not start)?

How can I check if the RAM modules are damaged?

    What would be your suggestions?

I thank very you much in advance!

    Mauricio

Hmm, I'd say you two bad sticks of RAM.  If the system POST even with them, I would swap them if you can.  We know that the RAM slots work because you have 4 x 4 sticks without any problem and your computer can take up to 32 GB of RAM.  Your admission that you bought the right kind of RAM, voltage, and speed, etc., so that shouldn't be a problem.  I would say as bad RAM.  When you do not install, just check that you make pairs in each of the colored slots, for example. matching pairs in the slot of white and black.

  • Upgrade GPU for XPS 8700

As the title says, I have a question about the Dell XPS 8700. I wanted to update the graphics card and after browsing through the forum, I think I already know the answer, but would have an EVGA GeForce GTX 960 to adapt and be compatible.

The dimensions of the GPU are 4.38 inches x 10.1 inches x 2 inches with a request for a power of 400 W.

There is an entire thread dedicated to the XPS 8700 / nVidia GTX upgrade.

    http://en.community.Dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3515/t/19611037

you don't need to upgrade the power supply for a GTX 960, and most will fit.

Regarding the power supply, I went with Seasonic X - 650 s and they are a little longer than the original but adapt easily.

  • XPS 8700: Upgrade CPU cooler

    Hello

I have a Dell XPS 8700 and I am facing some problems to find a cooler to replace the original one.

It came with a modified version in stock intel cooler. Is essentially the same heatsink (not high quality metal) and a 80mm fan (4-pin).

The problem is that the holes just let me install a chiller that uses screws. I can't put coolers that use this model clip or PIN (as we see in Stock Intel) and I'm afraid to buy new and it cannot install due to the incompatibility of holes in backplate.

Someone here has already improved the CPU cooler? If someone has already done so, could you please tell me the name of the model of cooler?

    Thank you.

  • XPS 8700 faster?

OK so I xps8700 and want to make it faster, I like speed. Some say go with card PCIe SSD x 4

Some say mSATA is just as fast and you can start of one or the other.  Price is not a factor

EDIT: ignore the PCIe x 4 comments. It seems that the 8700 crack that resembles a PCIe x 4 is not working at full speed.

    http://en.community.Dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3513/t/19536759

    / EDIT

the 8700 has no crack m2, so a m2 SSD ascended in a x 4 Adapter PCI to m2 will be the fastest interface.

On the m2 SSD Samsung seems to be on top with the XP941, but plextor and samsung have been mutually one-upping in this field and Plexstor announced the M7e which should albums the samsung as soon as it is available.

I'm not sure I've seen a XPS 8700 configured with a PCIe SSD as boot drive. It might work, or you may need to use an mSATA or SATA III SSD for the boot drive,

Then, slide into a PSU expansion and put to update the graphics card for a GTX 980 and you'll probably spent more than the cost of the system on the upgrades, and who will take the 8700 about as much as you can.

You must also download intel UERX and overclock the memory slightly. with the tension of memory limited to 1.5V on the card mother dell, it is difficult to increase the frequency of the memory and keep stability. Instead you can squeeze latency and that helps a little. Here are my attempts as well as some synthetic test results. Real-world tests did not much difference.
