Yet can't overcome problem of update error 80072F8F

Re the discussion on error 80072F8F on failure to be able to update to Vista.

I tried all the solutions suggested in this discussion and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929458, including the deactivation of Norton 360 and still the same error message appears.

I stupidly had invoked the reliability of the update process and discovered that in fact no update occurred since December 10, 2008. My laptop is out of date and I can't do anything about it that Microsoft now prevents manual update, the only update authorized either through this process that now does not work. Someone at - it any other ideas? Thank you.

123465788,

First of all, to access a Vista command prompt you can simply type CMD in the search box, no need to create and manage more.

Secondly, your original post said you that you did all the steps in this KB. http://support.Microsoft.com/default.aspx/KB/929458

If possible you can double-check that you you did all the steps as he has about 4 methods to fix this problem.

If you did all these things, I check the time and date in your BIOS and make sure that it is correct or that you do not have a low battery. If all this is correct, you must then contact your OEM, and see if there is a BIOS newer than what you use.

However, please note. If something goes wrong with the update your BIOS you can render your motherboard not working, so I strongly recommend that you have an agent of the manufacturer of your computer support, and or the motherboard on the phone with you when you do this.

Thank you

Shawn

The message in the title keeps appearing whenever I start Quick Time using XP Home SP3.  By clicking on the Do it now button used to cause an error of not being able to reach a valid server.  So I downloaded a new version of QuickTime 7.6.5 directly from the web, and now the error message on the software update appears twice.  The second aspect is after clicking the do it now touches the first time.  After the second authorization to do now the officials time loads and works fine until the next time I start up the package.

I tried ladies of viruses, malware, registry scanners and optimizers to remove and nothing seems to solve the problem.  the quicktime of removal and relocation do nothing to solve this problem.

  • My "windows update" says he can not search for new updates-error code 80070002. Help, please. Thank you!

I already tried ideas to stop the Windows Update Service, removal of temporary files to update and restart the Windows update service.

    Hello

Have you made changes on the computer before this problem?
Follow these methods mentioned below and check.

    Method 1:
I suggest you to check if you are able to access Windows Update service and ensure that the following services are started. If it is not started, follow these steps:
    a. Click Start, type services.msc without the quotes and press ENTER.
    b. search Windows Update.
    c. right-click on the service and select Properties.
    d. in startup type, select Enable.
    e. Click Start under the service status.
    f. click OK.
Repeat steps c through f for the following services:
    Background Intelligent Transfer Service
    Cryptographic services
If the steps do not help to solve the problem, you can go ahead with the methods mentioned below and check.
    Method 2:
Your anti-virus software is in conflict with Windows updates. You can test this by temporarily disabling your antivirus software. Check out the following link.
    Disable the antivirus software
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/disable-antivirus-software
Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.
    Method 3:
The problem with Microsoft Windows Update is not working
    http://support.Microsoft.com/mats/windows_update/
    Method 4:
I suggest that you try to perform the SFC (System File Checker) scan on your computer and check if the problem persists. Read the following article.
How to use the System File Checker tool to fix the system files missing or corrupted on Windows Vista or Windows 7
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929833
    It will be useful.
  • Windows 7 Windows Update error 80072f8f

When you try to perform a windows update, you may receive this error.

I just wanted to post that I found the solution in that the GTW CyberTrust certification authority is not approved in Internet Explorer/Windows 7.

Installation of the CA in trusted authorities allows windows update to continue.

I couldn't find any solution after the search of this site, so thought a post would work.

I had the same problem with mine, I tried the thing guitarfish suggested, but that did not work. Did not understand how it can be because of the date and time, after hours of searching on the net, I managed to fix it myself and here is how I did it

Click your time and date (lower-right) and then a windows should appear, click on the link "change date and time settings. on the date and time window click on the internet time tab, click the change settings button, then click the 'update now' button, then click ok and exit the windows and now try your update.

It should work as it did for me

    Good luck

  • Windows update error code 80070005 when checking for updates

I was getting updated with no problems on a clean install of Windows 7 Pro x 86.  After I installed MS Office 2007 Pro and other software.  I clicked on search for updates and I get the red box error "windows can not find the new updates" error found Code 80070005 I am logged in as a user with Admin Access.  I disabled Norton AntiVirus...    When I click view update history, it is empty, even though I've updated several times.

    Hi Willaton,

The 80070005 error means usually you do not have permission appropriate to run the update.

You could disable your anti-virue and malware/spyware protection temporarily to see if they are in conflict with the update installation program.

If this does not work, I suggest you log in to the account administrators integrated and update from there. To connect to the administrator account

    1. Click Start, right click on computer, then click on manage.

    2. expand local users and groups, and then click the users folder.

    3. right click on the connection of the administrator, and then click Properties, then remove that checking the account is disabled.

You can now restart the computer and log on to the administrator account and try the update again.

    Hope this information is useful.

  • Windows Update - error Code 80072F8F

Ok. So I am very anxious about my problem and after reading a lot of posts and various Microsoft support pages I have to insist that you are trying to copy and paste a generic useless solution that you throw all beginners. If you can't help, just don't post.

In any case, my last Windows successful update was August 3. The update was "Security Update for Windows 7 for x 64-based systems (KB2286198) ', and he succeeded. Since then, no main Windows settings have been changed and no software was installed. However, without apparent reason, I get the above error code (see the title of the topic) whenever I try to run Windows Update. My first instinct was to run a Google search on the error code. It produces the following two pages:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/Windows-Update-error-80072F8F

    http://support.Microsoft.com/GP/system_maintenance_for_windows

I tried all the solutions offered by these pages, and nothing worked. My clock is well-ordered, and in sync with time.windows.com. I ran Microsoft Automated Troubleshooting Services. No dice. So I looked around on your beautiful forums here and found the following topic:

    http://social.answers.Microsoft.com/forums/en-us/vistawu/thread/10acefdc-297F-4D14-9f5c-5a90250a8b8c

I tried to correct the problem by trying EVERY SOLUTION UNIQUE attributed to the user who created this topic, including resettlement certificates root to update and re-registering components (Softpub.dll, etc.) as suggested. I temporarily disabled my third-party security software (ESET Smart Security 4 and Yes, that my subscription is current and all my third-party software are up to date). Windows Update is the only feature which seems to be faulty on my machine. My internet connection is fine, loads pages without penalty in Firefox and Internet Explorer. I've rebooted more times than I can count.

I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. Given that you're OS software costs as much, if not more than a cheap computer in itself and I consider a problem I can't solve (because the way I am a student a graduate of computer science in the former USSR) all unacceptable. The fact that, not being not able to update the OS effectively paralyzes my laptop thousand dollars, I am naturally very irritated. Stay in place beyond 04:00 trying to solve an operating system bug is not valuable my time use, and so all productivity more is lost I can simply opt to migrate from Windows altogether. Let me know if you need more information about the configuration of my. I hope you can help, because I enjoy not having to do a full reformat.
