  It seems that the boot loader is damaged. You need to install the earlier operating system first, and then install the latest operating system. If you do not have (for example, if you install Windows XP on a computer that is already running Windows 8), you can make your system unusable. This can happen because earlier versions of Windows do not recognize the startup files used in more recent versions of Windows and can overwrite them.

  As you have reinstalled Windows XP on a computer running Windows 8, it has destroyed the boot loader.

  Follow these steps.

  We need to rebuild the Boot Configuration data (BCD). For this we need an installation of Windows 8 media.  If you do not have an installation, you can create a.

  You can choose the custom installation (see installation and reinstallation of Windows) and install it in the score you want.  So you can keep your other partition.

  Many people say that the partition you are installing must be at least 100 GB [I'm under 64 bit Windows 7 in a 70 GB partition and he seems pretty happy].  You can repartition at the beginning of the custom Setup to achieve whatever you decide.

  Did you uninstall normal Windows XP or Windows Embedded Standard?

  If you have removed Windows Embedded and normal Windows XP still installed, you can use FIXMBR and FIXBOOT from the Recovery Console to restore the boot loader.

  Format of the hd first, win 7 has written some info in the mbr, and it needs to be deleted.
  If xp cd has formatting problems, boot with win 7 cd and format, do not allow to install, just the format.
