ZBook 17 G3: G3 Thundberbolt 3 dock of Zbook 17 questions

Has anyone gotten the 200W 3 Thunderbolt Zbook dock and all managed to make it work?  I recently took delivery (a few months late) and cannot operate.  When I plug it (and I made sure each driver I have is also present on the HP site), I start running in a series of questions.

  • Device Manager indicates an unknown device which is shown with an id of vid_174c & pid_3074, which should be a hub 3074 ASMedia superspeed, but none that I try to get the drivers not installed works for this device.
  • All of the USB ports on the laptop stop responding
  • My connected monitors appear, but in Device Manager, I see two copies of the monitors connected through the dock, and each has an exclamation point that the device drivers are not installed.
  • My ethernet seems to work fine
  • Try to install any sort of updated drivers (found in various places on the web) results ASMedia a BSOD
  • The laptop will be bad shut down or restart with the cable in place.  Forcing a hard stop (power button for several seconds) sometimes results the laptop is able to start and other times it simply crashes to the POST screen.
  • Unplug the docking cable, while the laptop is booted up only shows nothing unplugged.  a reboot is required (usually a hard reboot) to get actually the mobile register that the dock is disconnected.
  • Similarly, sometimes after a restart, the laptop will not register when I plug the dock, unless I have successfully completed a cycle of full restart where the laptop is connected to windows without the dock, and then been rebooted (no hard restart) and connected in a second time.

My current setup is a proc xeon 64 GB of RAM and the graphics card NVidia M4000M (running in only discreet mode via the BIOS settings).  The only ones I haven't installed drivers are Intel video drivers, because I have disabled hybrid graph.

I'll add a link to the other thread, which has been more active lately, essentially dealing with the same issues.  In this way, we have at least a place to continue the discussion...

  • Disappears from the main window of the activity monitor

I'm under El Capitan 10.11.5, 15F34 build on an iMac (retina, 5K, 27 inch, mid-2015). If I open the activity monitor, I get the CPU usage, but the main window will briefly appear and disappear. If I minimize and restore, I also get it for a fraction of a second and then it seems to fall back on the dock. The history of CPU option (cmd 3) is grayed out, although I can get it as the icon in the dock.

My question, then, is what caused this problem and how to restore to normal activity monitor?

Please read this message before doing anything.

This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don't be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.

    Step 1

The goal of this step is to determine if the problem is localized to your user account.

Select the feedback connections* and log in as a guest. Do not use the Safari connection only 'user comments' created by 'find my Mac '.

While signed in as a guest, you will have access to your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you use them for the first time. Do not be alarmed by this behavior; It's normal. If you need any password or other personal information in order to complete the test, save, print, or write them before you start.

Test while signed in as a guest. Same problem?

After testing, log on to the guest account and in your own account, disable it if you wish. The files that you created in the guest account will be automatically deleted when you log out of it.

    * Note: If you have enabled 'find my Mac' or FileVault, then you cannot activate the guest account. The login 'User comments' created by 'Find my Mac' is not the same. Create a new account to test and delete it, including his home folder, after testing.

    Step 2

The goal of this step is to determine if the problem is caused by changes in the system of third party that load automatically at startup or logon, by a device, by a police conflict or corruption of system files or some system caches.

Please take this step regardless of the results of step 1.

Disconnect all devices wired except those required to test and remove all the expansion cards from secondary market, as appropriate. Start in safe mode and log on to the account of the problem.

Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or an earlier version, or if a firmware password is defined, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can not do this. Ask for additional instructions.

Safe mode is much slower to boot and run as normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things work at all, including an audio output and a Wi - Fi connection on some models. The next normal boot can also be a bit slow.

The login screen is displayed even if you normally connect automatically. You need your password to log on. If you have forgotten the password, you will have to reset it before you begin.

Test in safe mode. Same problem?

After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and make sure you always have the problem. View the results of steps 1 and 2.

I had the same problem with my iPhone 4 and Lenovo USB 3.0 docking station. The question in point 8.1 of Windows (64-bit) was that in the power management section, you must disable (OFF) on both) 1 battery and 2) plugged of "USB selective suspend setting."

  • HP ZBook 15 G3: BSOD when connecting to the HP Elite Thunderbolt 3 docking station

I recently (yesterday, 16/08/16) began to experience the dreaded Blue Screen of Death, whenever my laptop is connected to my HP Elite Thunderbolt 3 Dock.

The machine is a HP ZBook 15 G3. It was connected to the docking station for more than a month without this problem. I don't know why at the time because I don't remember any updates or new software before that happens.

The dock is connected to 2 x monitors via HDMI cables and an ethernet cable. I connect a mouse and wireless keyboard to a USB3 port on the laptop.

If the dock is connected to the laptop at the start, he reached the login screen front of BSOD. If I start without it connected, it will be BSOD a few seconds after connecting the dock. He never to the point where the monitors display anything. It can be started with the dock connected in Safe Mode, as it seems to disable job.

I've updated all the drivers and BIOS (including download the Softpaq Download Manager), but there has been no change. I have also updated the NVIDIA drivers to the latest version without change.

What should I do next to solve the problem?

Did you analyze the dump files, they said?

I would also like to update these:

Intel's Thunderbolt sure Connect utility (15.3.40.275)
Thunderbolt from Intel for the Dock Thunderbolt from HP (16.1.7.0.8) Firmware update
ASMedia eXtensible Host Controller Driver (1.16.35.1)
ASMedia ASM1042A Firmware Update for HP Thunderbolt 3 Dock (131025.10.11.23)

More BIOS if you're not on 1.09 or 1.10, some people say that they have problems with 1.10, so maybe try downgrade to 1.09.

You can also try experimenting with the 'Thunderbolt security level' setting in the bios security switching No. If it is authorized by the user, or vice versa.

  • Zbook dock: Zbook Dock: appropriate equipment

Is August 3, troubleshooting guide to sign must "click the remove safely icon in the notification area, at the far right of the taskbar".  Where is this icon?  I have the icon of love at first sight, but it does not offer any option to delete.  The link is:

    http://h20565.www2.HP.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?sp4ts.Oid=11122586 & docLocale = en_US & docid = emr_na-C0...

In this same document he links to dock Zbook (4AA6-5088EEW) white paper that says for the cable, just pull "to remove the HP Elite docking station with Thunderbolt 3 or HP ZBook with Thunderbolt 3 in your HP laptop or HP ZBook Mobile Workstation, it is recommended to first disconnect the dock wait icon Thunderbolt (see Figure 3) in the system status bar is gone then put the laptop or. "mobile workstation in the waking state, hibernation, restart or stop.

    Which is correct?

I think I solved the problem to my satisfaction, I hope it helps others.

Also, I tried to get more information of HP chat support, but they left hear only the computer off and then unplug.  It would be the 3rd option HP (and the worst option) to follow no real clarity on the procedure of HP.  The Zbook attach end of nightmares?

I believe that the white paper (4AA6-5088EEW, August 2016) made the most sense, although it may lack key information:
    http://WWW8.HP.com/h20195/v2/GetPDF.aspx/4AA6-5088EEW.PDF

The white paper says to unplug the dock (without preparation), what seems dangerous to me.  Only, I'm ready to do if the USB devices plugged into the dock to comply with Windows "Rapid withdrawal" of the policy in the Device Manager settings.  The keyboard and the mouse need not of settings, since they are different profiles of USB.  Someone braver than I can try to ignore the parameters of "Quick release" to find out what's going on :-).

The political "quick withdrawal" is not set, then if the option 'Remove the device safely' with the icon of USB in the bar of tasks, firstly, and THEN do the Zbook dock disconnect.  I think that's what the document online tried to say in words very confusing and lacking other details:
    http://h20565.www2.HP.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?sp4ts.Oid=11122586 & docLocale = en_US & docid = emr_na-c05060909

So far, I didn't re-docking on the fly and disconnection problems.  I run all the latest Zbook 15 G3 drivers, BIOS 1.10 etc, for those who want to know.  More a few bug fixes for the Zbook dock and it will be a good product.

What is your device under network devices Manager? The Intel ethernet is built in the and the Broadcom NetXtreme is ethernet in the dock. HP has drivers for both on the support page for Windows 10 64-bit on the Zbook G3 home page.

  • Zbook 15 G2: 90W Docking for G2 Zbook 15 HP

    Hello

I just got 15 G2 Zbook and currently looking for a docking station as I mainly use with combination of monitor / keyboard/mouse + speaker in my office.
As this laptop is big enough with her just as heavy power brick, I realized I'd better go with a cradle to attach/detach every day easy.

    http://WWW8.HP.com/h20195/v2/GetHTML.aspx?DocName=c04287869
I think that I need the base dock (not advance)

So some research on the internet suggest the dock suitable for HP 15 Zbook is the one who has power of 230W (it makes sense since his plant power brick is 150 watts), but I also see a provided 90W is much cheaper... and I have a vague idea that the extra power in the 230W is simply to allow you to successfully operate the peripheral elements at one time.

Because I do not want to connect or Garland all hungry pyromecanismes, is there a chance 90W docking would be able to hold?

    Kind regards

    Razz

For anyone interested, I went with Dock 120W and my laptop works very well (without warning/no or "running food" error message). No performance degradation whatsoever.

    My configuration:

    Docking station HP Zbook 15 G2 + HP 2012 120W + Displayport monitor + keyboard/mouse wireless + 1 or USB 2 low power devices (Smartphone/Portable HDD)

In addition, I discovered that some people also have success using 90W dock, but it's anecdotal. I can't really confirm.
