12 Pro Linux on Fedora 24 Workstation

Working station Pro 12 native Linux Fedora 24 last night.  To make it work at all, I had to follow the Blog of the Coyote to the Coyote Blog: VMWare Worksation 12 on Fedora Core 23 (fc23).

After that, it seems to load correctly, but I have problems to install vmware tools for Windows 7 in the virtual machine.

When I select the element to update VMWare Tools from the VM menu, it downloads 10.0.6, the linux root password (that I never remember fact before 11), then errors with "there was a problem updating a software component.  Try again later and... contact VMware Support... ", every time.

He was a double update, left 22 Fedora for Fedora 24 and 11-12 desktop workstations.  The virtual Windows machine is has been copied, so it already contains tools 11.

Linux kernel 4.5.7 - 300.fc24.x86_64

Attach the vmware - 0.log file.

I hope someone can help.

Brian

We have an internal bug to track this issue. Currently to work around this problem, you can specify the image tools manually with following steps:

1 vm open settings-> hardware-> CD/DVD

2 specify /usr/lib/vmware/isoimages/windows.iso (for Windows VM) "use ISO image" and select 'Connected' in the State of the device

Then you should be able to upgrade the tools in the comments. I would like, if it works for you. Thank you!

I think the answer is that you cannot import SUSE 11 VM to ESX 3.5 but I hope that this is NOT the case that I really really really need this virtual machine published in our ESX infrastructure. If this method will not work is there other options?

Do not use the plugin.  It does not yet support Linux.  Although this error may occur, the import process should work again as the previous system was a virtual machine.

If you are using the standalone version, treat the source like other / workstation, point to the VMX.  You can get an error, that's fine.  It must still allow you to process the import of ESX.

Last solution... Turn on the virtual machine and use the stand-alone converter to target IP address of the SUSE operating system inside the guest.  It treats like physics (step 1) and imports to ESX as usual.

In Windows, it's easy to do, under file, Page Setup, margins and header, then you can change it and click OK and he remembers this setting.

However, on Linux, you must go to Options, file, print, and then change there, but there is no Save or OK button, so it does that to a print job and you will have to change each time.

  • Kickstart: linux + vmware workstation 8?

    Hello!

Im getting a kickstart for Linux guests with vmware workstation 8.

is there a howto or whoever did this?

    concerning

    Lars

I'm not immeaditally aware of anyone doing this.  I guess you are using a Red Hat based for this distribution?  If so, you will want to install the development tools (the kernel headers and gcc and friends).  Installation of WS should be done some time in the section cusomization of scripts of the kickstart file.  If RIP you in the installer of WS, you will find the flags that will reduce the amount of questions asked (and if you dig enough deep to eliminate questions).  Start the installer of linux WS help section to find the minimum set of afroementioned of the flag of questions.  I would like to know how it goes... looks like fun

  • Dual boot with Windows 7 and LINUX - Tecra A11 (PTSE1A - 005-00L)

    Hello

I bought a new Tecra A11 computer laptop running WIN7 Pro. I want to install LINUX also. This means that I want to run my laptop in dual boot Win7 Pro/LINUX (a Distributor). Please tell me how to do this.

There are 5 partitions on the HARD disk:
1 active, recovery partiton 1.46 GB (without drive letter)
    2. principal asset C: start 145,04 GB (NTFS)
    3. active logics E: 78,13 GB (NTFS)
    4 active logical F: 64.25 GB (NTFS)
5 primary Partition 9.2 GB (no drive letter, the unknown application)

Hey, I need because I was admitted to a course of RHCE (Red Hat Certified Engineer)

    Please help me

    Hello

I can't give you a step by step explanation, but most distributions offer today a possibility to coexist with Windows.
When installing the unused free space will be taken by Linux (with the consent of the user of course!)

What exact configuration you need is impossible for someone else to say, but I would say to make the space occupied by the F player available for Linux.
You seem to have of enough space for Windows and Linux operating system doesn't have much.

Some thoughts about setting up your score:

I touch NOT 1,2 and 5 no matter what. They are your system and a system of internal partitions (recovery and data environment) and wouldn't it be fun to lose.

1 active, recovery partiton 1.46 GB (without drive letter)
    2. principal asset C: start 145,04 GB (NTFS)
    3. active logics E: 78,13 GB (NTFS)
    4 active logical F: 64.25 GB (NTFS)
5 primary Partition 9.2 GB (no drive letter, the unknown application)

Then choose a Distro (Ubuntu, Mint, Fedora and OpenSuse - suggestion Fedora will be as close as possible associated with RedHat) that will guide you in the steps to allocate space for Linux.
I suggest however to remove the disk F in Windows for Linux does not start from resizing all partitions.
I do not know which works perfectly, but will just take time, and will most probably remain pretty useless drive F.

If you have valuable data on your device, make sure to save! No software comes with warranty :)
Last but not least - make 100% sure to create a collection set using the Toshiba Recovery Media Creator before you start the installation of Linux.
If something goes wrong you have the opportunity to put the unit in factory condition.

Good luck and keep asking you if you need extra help!

  • Fusion Pro 8 NAT on the private network does not

Or, at least, I can't make it work!

Created a new private network and checked the two external NAT and connect Mac boxes (DHCP disabled after you assign the IPv6 network range offshore).

Has actually tried to get a cluster of Nutanix nested in to resolve DNS queries via 8.8.8.8, but failed to reach the external network.

So I created a vanilla Win 7 VM on the same network to test, and this, too, is able to ping the GW (10.0.0.1) very well, but can not get to 8.8.8.8 (or elsewhere).

I'm doing something wrong? Is this a known issue? Are there workarounds?

    Ta!

    YOlnk,

I got exactly the same problem, used the Fusion Pro 8, used a linux guest. Could ping 10.0.0.1 very well.

I was glad to see you post, because I was convinced that I was doing something stupid.

It turns out that, in a way documented extremely bad / undocumented that the default "Nat router" gateway is 10.0.0.2!

So, for any subnet private that you create, the adresse.2 is what you want to use for the default gateway. The adresse.1 is to access the host.

I came across this documentation for Wmware workstation but it seems to be relevant for Fusion Pro too.

  • How to change the virtual IP addresses in 6.5.1 on the Linux host?

    I am running Workstation 6.5.1 on a 64-bit Linux host (Fedora 10).

The application of "Virtual Network Editor" is distinguished by its equivalent in Windows.  It is quite reduced in functionality.

What I need is a way to change the virtual IP addresses.  In the editor, I can only change the overall range of subnet (network address and the sous-masque).  It works very well.  However, I can not change the individual IP addresses in there.

In particular, I need to change:

    .1 = the host itself

.2 = services internal VMware (server proxy DNS, router, gateway, NAT, DHCP etc.)

How can I assign these on Linux?  Pour.2, I saw the "nat.conf" file in the directory/etc/vmware, under the number of the device (in my case vmnet8) vmnet.   Pour.1, I've seen this in a number of places, the DHCP server, and others.  Where does get this information from VMware?  What I don't want is to have to change this IP address in many places, because it will become easy to get out of sync.

If I just use "ifconfig" to change the IP address, it is an approach of brute force that works, but of course it will not survive a reboot.

Traditional networks of the host Linux tools are unaware of the vmnet addresses.  Somewhere, they are configured with VMware, not the distribution of the host.  So, I wonder where it is.

    Thank you!

    Josh

    Josh,

Here is what I do on my VMWare Wks 6.5.2:

    Files to edit:

    1 /etc/vmware/vmnetx/dhcpd/dhcpd.conf

    Change the following:

    (a) range

    (b) option domain-name-servers {10.10.10.254}

    (c) {10.10.10.254} option routers

    2 /etc/vmware/vmnetx/nat/nat.conf

    Change the following:

    (a) {10.10.10.254} ip - address of the NAT gateway.

    3 /etc/init.d/vmware script

    (a) check a function called vmwarestartvmnet()

    (b) after the/vmware-networks - the beginning of the line, add:

    ifconfig vmnetx xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx {ip host address we want to}-> vmnet1 ifconfig 10.10.10.253

This works perfectly for me. The only thing is that, once you change these files, make sure that you get a copy of them. Otherwise after any update or configuration change who will be overwritten.

I hope that VMWare will come with a better way to do that instead of hacking these files manually.

    HTH,

    -Daniel.

I tried to get linux on my laptop working for the last days... Installation of the operating system is fine and he invites me to install the driver, owner of ATI Mobility for linux as my laptop has ATI mobility radeon 5xxx video chip...

Even this succeeds, but when I restart the system to complete the installation, I get an empty on the start-up screen and no response from the system here after...

I have been involved in every linux forum to find the cause of this problem and have also tried to install all kinds of flavors of linux like fedora, ubuntu, debian... without exploitation.

I even tried to install older version of ubuntu and even that did not work...

I also tried the driver settings listed in many forums and those forces work either...

And now I really regret why I chose to buy this hp laptop...

Can someone help me pls with this question...

    Thank you!! "

You must load first in the system.

1: load the live CD of linux and as root edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

2: change of ATI driver or anything like that to "vesa" in the Device section

3: reboot and now it should work in low resolution

    4: Try this: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/linux/Pages/radeon_linux.aspx

Don't install the drivers of 'Pilot' to install those owners

5: Try linux Mint instead of Ubuntu

  • Acer Aspire S7-391-6810 works under Linux (Ubuntu, say)?

Also, if I install Linux instead of Win8, my warranty will be void?

    Thank you!

    Nice day

Linux (Ubuntu, Fedora, etc.) will run on S7-391-6810, HOWEVER, the only problem you will encounter is the drivers and applications on your computer that drivers are only available for the Windows platform.

Regarding the warranty, Acer does not care what you load on the machine, as they cover the software warranty. They cover only the pure component on hardware failure... which means that only produce material defect is covered.

    Welcome to the community,

VMware is not delivered operating systems with their products, it simply provides a - VMS - platform on which you can install. You will need to get the images of installation for the guest OS the same way as you would for physical systems.
