13 9350 XPS - SSD USB C 3.1 - very unstable/no usable

A few weeks ago, I got a laptop XPS 13. And it's a great machine.

With the exception of a problem.

I have a PNY 128 GB SSD connected to an interface of Startech USB 3.1 with a USB type C connector.

When I plug it in, the system maintains the recognize and then not recognized it, infinity ad. Windows fires each time. The drive is unusable. Note that we open via USB 3, this works very well.

I installed all the drivers a BIOS (1.4.3) updates and the latest updates of Windows 10. Note that I installed the driver of e/s series of Dell, but whenever I come back to see if there are more drivers, the IO series driver needs to update again. It seems to never take.

Notice that before the 10 windows updates, it was more stable.

Also if I boot to the safe is seems a lot better.

I have very little installed on the system. Only things Microsoft (office 365, OneDrive). This is a new installation.

Derek

I had a problem similar to this with my Dell USB - C to mini adapter HDMI/VGA/Ethernet/USB3.1. I called Dell and after 2 hours, they were able to fix. Apparently (don't ask me why) the adapter USB - C and WiFi are kind of material and power wise. If you go to the options of the advance of the WiFi adapter and change the WiFi output at 75%, this solves a lot of problems with the connection / disconnection of USB - C questions. Exit at 75% reduction does not affect your connection on wireless networks. Apparently Intel is aware of this problem and institute a fix in the next update of driver for the XPS13 which is supposed to reach the end of the summer.

I hope it works for you.

The update of the IO series driver who seems to never stop smoking is also another question, I noticed. I don't worry about this. I have as well, and the Serial i/o driver version is the most recent driver. It's like there is a bug when it scans the computer for driver updates.

Which cable I'm able to use? I would like to use a male USB - A to USB - C cable to recharge the laptop using usb Sockets aircraft.

    Tracked down the answer:

It does not simply with phone chargers. He needs Chargers portable a higher voltage. You cannot use cable USB A-To-C to load (unless you have a defective cable seriously, which can damage the charger). You cannot use the Nexus 5 X, 6 p or OnePlus Chargers.

12-9250 Chromebook Pixel 2 and XPS (and perhaps a few other upcoming 2016 Dell systems) include a USB - C charger that works with the XPS 13 and 15. Chromebook Pixel charger is a wall wart, unlike most chargers for laptop with a brick in the middle.

Buy a compatible USB - C charger costs as well buy a normal replacement Dell laptop computer charger, so it is honestly not much unless you want to use it on other USB - C devices (whether now or in the future). The Pixel charger can also with phones, but I don't know if the XPS - C USB charger can also.

You'll also USB - C load with docks. Any USB docking station - C and any wharf 3 Thunderbolt should work with it. Dell has wo of them towards the end of the month of January each offers multiple output video, USB - A, Ethernet, audio ports and in charge. Plugable and some other manufacturers some too.

  • Portege Z830: Create the recovery and removal on SSD USB recovery partition?

    Hello

I already found a lot of discussions around the question how to increase free space on the SSD drive.

Is it possible to remove the recovery partition after you create a recovery key USB with the tool 'Create a Toshiba Recovery media'?
    No risk?

If it would be possible, how it is possible to assign the space gained on the C: partition?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

    > Is an option to remove the recovery partition after you create a recovery key USB with the tool 'create a Toshiba Recovery media "?
    > No risk?

Well, the recovery partition would create again when the laptop recovery procedure using disk recovery or the flash memory stick recovery

So if you want to remove the 2nd partition, you must create this disc/USB stick recovery before changing something on the HARD drive.

  • XPS 8500 USB 3.0 Port forward problems

Ports USB 3.0 on the XPS 8500 give me bad, and from what I can tell, it comes from a physical problem with the port hardware.

I can acquire and maintain a 3.0 connection when I plug my WD Passport drive or a Rocketfish hub propelled into the ports on the back. Connected to the front, however, I can sometimes 3.0, sometimes only 2.0 and rarely even get no connection at all. Connection I get to the front, if I move to sentence (like touch), the cable or the plug connection can change back from 2.0 to 3.0. Writing on a drive that will prevent mobile 3.0 to the front.

I noticed that the physical connection of USB plug on the port is more solid at the back than the front. A cable plugged into the rear port 3.0 is able to travel further and the rubber around the contacts of plug of cable on the back of the computer. On the front ports, the connector does not travel in too far, and the rubber of the USB connector is about 1-2 mm of front cover of the computer. A 3.0 cable on the front can move much more than a through the rear hole. I should mention that I have no problem with the USB 2.0 cables or devices in these front ports.

This isn't a driver problem, it is a problem of the plug 3.0 doesn't not not solid contact in the port. Dell must cease to use the current material in front port and to find a more appropriate part. Then, they can replace all the front ports on the XPS already shipped 8500.

My problem with USB 3.0 before XPS 8500 ports seems to have been resolved by the new cables. However, my initial assessment of ports before being too loose, making it difficult to get good 3.0 connections still holds upward. To save their customers and themselves from many headaches, Dell needs to find a replacement part for these ports before issues.

Everything that I had to test this with a WD Passport 3.0 years was HARD and a new Rocketfish powered 3.0 disc hub. Using the cables of original, these devices connected to ports at the back, but not the front. If I held the plug and stuck firmly in a front port, I couldn't sometimes 3.0 connection - although as soon as I let go of the plug I would lose the connection 3.0 and it would immediately reconnect as a 2.0 device.

I bought a 3.0 a mini-B cable for direct use with the WD drive and a 3.0 extension cable A-male to female for general use. These cables make very positive connections and seem to contribute to compensate ports before release. I can use them in any combination on the front (or back, of course).

You think that the problem was simply the cables and had nothing to do with the front ports. However, if I plugged the new extension to the front cable, I could then connect the WD drive to that using the original cable that would not connect directly on the front. Which tells me that the strength of the connection of two front port and the original cable was low. Trying to connect these two weaknesses directly was problematic. Solid connectors of the new cable used between two weak points allowed a good connection. This and the fact that the original WD and Rocketfish cables connected to the rear ports 3.0 without problem, points directly to the ports before being part of the problem.

  • USB data transfer is very slow on my Qosmio F10

It doesn't seem to be a USB driver on 'download files' file for the Qosmio on the site of Toshiba UK.
Of course, I would not upgrade to the wrong driver...
    Any suggestion?

    Hello

Try to remove all listed USB ports in Device Manager and reboot the device. All ports will be recognized and installed again.

By the way: as much as I know there is no separate driver for the USB ports and as a result you can't find it.

  • USB port - C Dell XPS 13 9350 and external storage

    Hello everyone,

I have a 3.1 USB enclosure external (Vantec Nexstar USB 3.1, model # NST - 270a 31 - BK) that I connect to the USB - C (Thunderbird 3) of my XPS 13 laptop 9350 port.  The player does not start even after using two different 3.1 USB cables.  I installed all the USB drivers and Thunderbird from the Dell Web site and active port in the BIOS, but still have no chance to get the player to run.

That's when I plug the player into a standard USB port with a USB 3.0 cable, boots road to the top and is recognized by the laptop without problem.  So if my diagnosis was made correctly, the USB box and wiring is not defective, so the problem must lie with the USB - C port.  Has anyone successfully used port USB - C to access the external storage with a bit of luck?

    See you soon,.

  • Problems with Dell USB - C (DA200) to the HDMI, VGA, RJ45, USB3 adapter

    Hi all

    I guess I'm a little desperate at 01:45 haha...

I just got my XPS 13 9350 and it's great. I bought the USB - C DA200 adpater USB3, RJ45, VGA, HDMI. Unfortunately, I have some difficulty with the device. They are listed below:

    (1) plug, computer does not recognize the device. If I right click and uninstall in Device Manager and do a scan 'new material', it works again - but not for long.

    (2) the device and the Realtek gigabit portion to connect and reconnect every second in Device Manager and it's annoying.

    (3) disabling the wireless card/connection really seems to help the unit to connect and it works 100%. ONLY when the wireless adapter is disconnected.

Basically, windows is to have a real time hard keep this adapter plugged... almost as if he can't recognize it. I tried to install the drivers for the card - nothing. I've updated all the firmware from Dell crush (including the chipset) and the BIOS... nothing. Same thing. If you do a search on google, there are a few discussions on this problem. There is a nice size on Reddit.

Someone has an idea, what happens? It's a real shame that a beautifully designed and expensive adapter does not work with a Dell computer.

    Thank you, AJ

  • Dell XPS 12 format, I lost my license to win 8?

    I have a Dell XPS 12

So I had the Dell with an empty SSD.

Its the weekend and Dell support is closed.

Fortunately, I have a Dell XPS 12, which is the same model.

I made a recovery disk Factory Image of my second XPS 12 and restored my first XPS (using the second factory XPS Image)

However she moved on the XPS license key the first XPS second.

It will be not active online because he says that it is already in use on my second XPS.

How can I get my key of the first XPS specification?

I checked the box to the PC and there is nothing in there with a license key.

Online research he says Dell integrate the key into the motherboard? That means I've lost my license? or is there a way back?

OK, the engineer came today with a new Liteon SSD and a recovery key.

It has replaced the DSS without trying the recovery key, don't know why...

It replaced the Samsung SSD with a SSD from Liteon (which I am not happy). Then he recovered 12 XPS with USB sent by Dell.

The touch screen was not working and windows was still not activated.

He called Dell, dell asked him to follow certain steps which included disabling Secure Boot and tries to get back again. what he does, but he still had the same problem.

The touch screen seems to be a driver problem and they key seems to be a motherboard problem.

Is that what I can do to solve this, now I have to use the second drive as an external USB drive.

    Thank you

    Hello

This ODD of SSD/HDD replacement is not always possible and in many cases, the BIOS will not handle and will not recognize the new HARD disk correctly.

That I can remember some old laptops Toshiba Tecra and Portege that supported the functionality of Slim Select Bay were able to manage the 2nd HARD drive instead of driving WEIRD, but this was not possible due to the available selection slim Bay.

In your case it looks like the laptop so that the BIOS does not support this function and, therefore, the additional SSD/HDD isn't recognised correctly.
