15-4010nr spectrum: spectrum 15-4010nr Thunderbolt Firmware Configuration failed

Theres a post existing on the use of this http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware/thunderbolt-spectre/td-p/2248647/page/6 configuration utility

Essentially, it allows to run unlicensed thunderbolt devices, which is apparently the Apple Firewire adapter Thunderbolt that I am using.

The configuration utility itself is here - ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp61501-62000/sp61579.exe

Instructions for using it are here - http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=c03725328#SpectreConfiguring

When I run this utility on a whole new 8.1 Windows Installer (fully updated), it does not work and so prevents me from using my port thunderbolt in the way that I want. I need to know how to get the utility to run and/or modify the registry to create the same changes. When I run currently, I get the error output below.

Ive tried running it in each mode of compatibility offered, it still fails every time.

Ive been fighting with this machine for over a week now, and I finally found the solution yesterday only to find out that it does not work. I need someone to HP to tell me how I can run my Thunderbolt "unlicensed" device that should not be up to HP in the first place.

For some reason the configuration utility is not compatible with windows 8.1 Although it works with win8. I'm not an expert but my experience almost everything that works on win8 also works on the 8.1, so clearly HP must update this utility to work with 8.1. I imagine that this will be an easy fix. While youre at it, make it work with windows 10 as well.

I can then try is upgrading to 8.1 after running the win8 utility, under the assumption that the change of firmware is reported in 8.1. If it works, its possible it would be deferred to win10 as well. Of course, a new installation would not work but should upgrade.

Assuming that works, the main limitation is that you can not have a clean install of 8.1 or 10 and use your port thunderbolt to its full potential. I think its ridiculous that HP is thunderbolt devices can be used and which can not. If one does not work because of material or other compatibility issues major, then it works simply. Theres no reason to exclude hundreds, or even thousands of other devices that probably work fine, just because there may be some who don't.

HP considring went from love at first sight, I doubt this will ever addressed. I just hope the people who do not have to scour the web for a week just to find a glimmer of hope to get their devices working experience this problem in the future.

What is the status of the STRANGE in Device Manager?
Are there any yellow exclamation marks?

I recommend you remove/clear the STRANGE since the Device Manager.
Then start the registry and delete the upper and lower registry key filters:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

After that, restart the device. Windows should recognize the STRANGE again.

Why do the update of the firmware?
You should do this only if the Vodafone SIM card does not work properly!

I found this info that pop ups before performing a firmware update!

    + Atten-tion of the FW update: +.

+ Please do not forget to read carefully before place the FW. +

+ 1. FW update is not necessary when the Vodafone SIM card works fine in the customer environment s. run the FW update only when the Vodafone SIM card is not detected. Please note that the FW is more reversible to the previous state once updated. +

+ 2. This upgrade tool will apply to the following models with built-in 3G module: +.

    + Portege R400 +.

+ 3. Please leave 3G communication and close the connection utility before running the FW update. +

+ 4. Close all applications before you run the FW update. Please DO NOT launch any application during the upgrade process. +

+ 5. Please ensure that you use an AC adapter to power the computer during the process of FW update. Power failure during the upgrade process can lead to failures of 3 G modem. +

  • HP9250C - Firmware update fails

I work with a client with three 9250c Digital Sender.  We use the send to folder option and want to upgrade the firmware to make sure that the file name of the PDF file are always unique.  A technical note HP information indicates that we need 48.140.2 firmware or higher to achieve. See the attached Technote

We have tried to install the latest firmware 48.293.1 via ftp.  The ftp commands indicate that the. The RFU file has loaded correctly, but when you return to the control panel of HP9250c that she went from 'Ready' to 'Suspended' but the firmware has NOT improved.

The old firmware updated is 20070626 09.081.4

Can anyone offer a solution to resolve the update.  I checked and the ability of the firmware update is enabled.

    Thank you Murray Croft

Thank you for your comments.  You are absolutely right. I was finishing this work remotely and subsequently discovered that I had given the IP address of a 9200c rather than the IT Department of 9250c.  You're going to want to retry the upgrade today.  My apologies for the confusion.  Murray

  • HP LaserJet 4250: Brick HP LaserJet 4250 after firmware update failed. Compact Flash card recovery options?

While performing an update of firmware via FTP using cURL, the HP LaserJet 4250 I worked has frozen. I had no choice but to cycle the power and hope for the best, but unfortunately it was bricked. The screen no longer lights upward when turned on (although I can hear the internal working mechanisms which is a good sign).

While doing some research, I read it is possible to buy a 32 MB CompactFlash card with preloaded firmware (http://bit.ly/1BTZGCh), put the jumper pin on the logic board to boot from it and then re-flashing the firmware on the card. Looks like a foolproof solution, but I would like to save my company some money if possible.

I was wondering if it is possible to use a Type I, 128 MB Compact Flash card I have handy and load the firmware above myself using a USB Compact Flash card reader/writer. Judging by what I read on another post on the forum (http://bit.ly/1GR6nM7), it seems possible to use a Unix/Linux utility such as JJ to clone another job Compact Flash card with preloaded firmware. However, I don't have such a card to clone. What I have is another HP LaserJet 4250 in working condition.

So that raises the question, is it possible to insert my own blank Compact Flash card in a HP LaserJet 4250 work and copy the firmware the logic board to the map image by using the printer control panel? I guess it would be the only way, if necessary, to get the firmware on the card.

However, if she is not the only way, is there an easier way to get the firmware on the card? For example, can I just format the card in FAT32 and copy the file to the RFU firmware to it and start the printer from him? Or the use of HP does it's own file system that is not readable on a PC? Also, would it be possible to use dd and simply copy the RFU directly on the card device believed himself (no file system) and boot from that?

Sorry for the barrage of questions. I tried to find the answers to all these myself, but HP doesn't seem to provide a lot of detailed documentation on works of the firmware via Compact Flash process. I'd be very happy if someone with experience could provide the answers well! Thank you.

Looks like I'll be solving my own number here haha. So after bit peicing together information from different positions and some experiences, I managed to save my LaserJet bricks!

To fix a HP LaserJet 4250 bricks, two things are necessary: an of Type I CompactFlash card and other HP LaserJet 4250 work. It's a common printer, chances are you'll find another around the office.

Here are the steps to fix the printer:

    1. The card CompactFlash Slot 1 (bottom slot) on board the logical work printer. Instructions on how to do so are provided by HP here: http://bit.ly/1NNyIol
    2. (May be optional) Initialize (format) the CompactFlash card by following the instructions on page 327 of the repair of HP LaserJet 4250 (http://bit.ly/1D22T7R)

      (a) turn off the power to the printer.
      (b) turn on the power to the printer and then press and hold the MENU button when begins the memory count.
      (c) continue to hold the button down until all the lights on control panel three printer flashes once and then remain lit. It may take up to 10 seconds.
      (d) press the BACK ARROW button. The display should INITIALIZE the DISK.
      (e) press Select (mark). The printer initializes the hard drive and continues its power on sequence.

    3. Now that the CompactFlash card is formatted, it is time to copy the NAND of the printer to work on the CompactFlash card.

      (a) turn off the power to the printer.
      (b) turn on the power to the printer and then press and hold CANCEL when begins the memory count.

    (c) continue to hold the button down until all the lights on control panel three printer flashes once and then remain lit. It may take up to 10 seconds.
    (d) press the SELECT button (check mark).
    (e) press the MENU button.
    (f) use the arrow to scroll until you see COPY BOOTLOADER IN SLOT2.
    (g) press SELECT, and the cursor should get the word BOOTLOADER. Use the arrows to change this to NAND.
    (e) press SELECT, and the cursor should get the word SLOT2. Use the arrows to change this to SLOT1.
    (f) press SELECT. The copy process must begin, and the status will appear on the screen.
    (g) once the process is complete, turn the printer off and remove the CompactFlash card.
  • Now that we have a working NAND on the CompactFlash card, it's time to restore to our printer masoned. Perform the following steps on the printer of bricks.

    (a) turn off the power to the printer.
    (b) Insert the CompactFlash card into Slot 1.
    (c) set the jumper on the System Board on the arrow to start from the CompactFlash card.
    (d) turn on the power to the printer and then press and hold CANCEL when begins the memory count.
    (e) continue now the button until all the lights on control panel three printer flashes once and then remain lit. It may take up to 10 seconds.
    (f) press SELECT (checkmark).
    (g) press the MENU button.
    (h) use the arrow to scroll until you see COPY BOOTLOADER IN SLOT2.
    (i) press SELECT, and the cursor should get the word BOOTLOADER. Use the arrows to change this to SLOT1.
    (j) press SELECT, and the cursor should get the word SLOT2. Use the arrows to change this to NAND.
    (k) press SELECT. The copy process must begin, and the status will appear on the screen.
    (l) once the process is complete, turn off the printer, remove the CompactFlash card and reposition the jumper to the default position.
    (m) turn on the power to the printer. That's all! Everything should work normally again. No brick no more!

  • UPDATE (07/04/15): IF YOU DO NOT HAVE ANOTHER HP LASERJET 4250

It turns out that you can just download the firmware on HP website and create an image of it bootable on a CompactFlash card. However, it is not as simple as just copying the firmware image. You should ignore the 633 first bytes of the file of the firmware (at least with the 08.260.1 version), then copy the rest on a CompactFlash card. You can accomplish this by running the following command on Mac OS X or Linux. Download and boot from a live CD of Linux like Ubuntu if necessary.

    DD if = lj4240_4250_4350fw_08.260.1.rfu ibs = 1 skip = 633 of = / dev/disk2

Replace "lj4240_4250_4350fw_08.260.1.rfu" with the name of the appropriate firmware file and ' / dev/disk2 ' with the appropriate device if necessary.

If you prefer, a bootable copy of the revision of the 08.260.1 firmware can be downloaded here: http://bit.ly/1FeF3YP

As you can see in the image below, when opened with a hex editor, image downloaded from HP firmware starts with 1 b 25 31 2d bytes... However, the printer does not include the first part of the file when you start, because there are instructions of PJL and not binary. Bootable image begins at 631 byte (277 hex) highlighted. It may be possible that this address may change in future versions of firmware or for different printers, so here's how to know where to start the startup code. The first occurrence of 00 00 04 24 bytes, is where that starts. In ASCII, it looks to "... $". In this sequence, the 00 first is the beginning of the startup code. Here's another picture, of what should look like a bootable firmware image.

Non-bootable firmware image, downloaded directly from HP

Bootable firmware image, extracted of HP download

For fun, I unpacked it some of the files included in the firmware image, and it turns out that tracks on the printer to LynxOS. Who would have thought?

  • Photosmart C4780: HP Photosmart C4780 Firmware Update Fail

I downloaded the updated of the "C4700_FWUpdate_4362_HPCOM_v1" firmware, but every time I try to install the wizard says that my printer is not connected.  In fact, it is connected by USB cable and wireless.  I can print to it, printing and scanning doctor sees and checks that it is OK.  The HP Digital Imaging Monitor reports that it's OK.

The printer is running its original software and works OK, except for the occasional low response to the control panel entries that this firmware update addresses.

My Device Manager shows all the correct drivers OK and my control panel shows the printer OK.

    Any thoughts, please?

You won't be able to reflash the firmware now. Looks like it is ready to be discarded. Time to buy a new printer, I'm sorry.

  • Sansa Firmware Updater fails to install on my PC

    Hello world

I can't install the update on my pc.

This is what he wrote when it fails: "Downloding last sansa updater...»    X '.

"The installation fails. "Please try again later".

I have tried many times in the past 24 hours and its still the same.

My pc is clean no viruses, spyware, etc., well maintained, firewall does not block it.

    Any suggestions?

Most here do not recommend the use of the update. It's a resource hog that will slow your system down and nag-ware is most of the time as whenever you plug your player will be 'phone home' looking for updates. Firmware updates are not very numerous and widely spaced and manually updated (or reinstall) updates usually takes less time than downloading and installing the update.

  • Sansa Firmware Updater fails to install every time...

I have had my Sansa View for about 2 months now. I have never been able to install the Sansa firmware update. It seems to go through all the steps, then suddenly steps back on the "download the latest Sansa Updater" and says that failed (once just a second before this step was completed successfully). It seems to with success download it, install it, then save, then he can make another step or it may fail on the registration... I can't. All the steps after downloading disappear and now it says that the step does not and gives me the error message "Installation failed. Please try again later. "I think 2 months is much later...

I am running Windows XP SP3 32-bit. The windows firewall is disabled and I use COMODO Internet Security and I use Avira Antivirus. I tried to disable the firewall and the antivirus just to see if they are the cause of the problem, but it has no effect on the results of the installation. In addition, COMODO logs do not show any activity blocked the Installer (or whatever it is blocked at all today). My account is an administrator account.

Now, I think it should be noted that I don't need an update of the firmware. My player integrates the latest version from the website. What I really want is to convert my videos so that I can use them on the player. Unfortanetly there is no way to install the Sansa Media Converter without installing the Firmware Updater (ahh... how many times I tried wasn't the case... but alas...).

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

SOLUTION: I found a thread on the forum of Sansa View that describes the required parameters for the conversion of the video correctly to play on my device. (Here: http://forums.sandisk.com/sansa/board/message?board.id=view&thread.id=3300) Given that I don't need to update my firmware (and lets hope I don't) it is a perfect solution for me (especially considering the horrible things I've heard of the SCM).

  • Firmware update fails

I use a Fuze 4 GB with 8 GB external for about a month-, everything worked fine.

I just upgraded my operating system from Vista Ultimate to Windows 7 Ultimate and the first time I connected my Fuze device the Sansa Updater is automatically called and I was informed of an update of the firmware. This has been launched but on clicking 'Finish' Windows indicates a failure of the device, my rocket shows a white, lit screen and is unresponsive, even when you are offline.

The "rocket" stays with a blank white screen but does not power down, nor any other control reacts to this topic. When connected again to my computer sound connection is on, but the unit is not recognized - Windows reports (Control Panel > device drivers > usb controllers) "unknown device". No driver for the unknown device cannot be found.

Probably the battery of the rocket will be finally exhausted and the display closed down, but until then I can't activated the device at all. How to get back a firmware to work in my camera?

    Thanks for any advice.

Well, in the face of red. I posted in panic before I read the FAQ and found I had no press not delivery to zero (switch) long enough to restore. This made me return to a work unit.
