15 - r018dx: is the PID of Win 8.1 in the BIOS

I am repairing a laptop of neighbors who have experienced a fatal disk crash (it's toast).  Installed a new drive HARD but have no recovery media.  I see various places in market there are recovery kits 8.1 cheaper than at HP, but without a PID.  I need confirmation that HP incorporates the OEM PID in the BIOS, which will allow to install after market recovery kits.  Is this correct?  TMB1

Yes, HP incorporates the OEM PID for Windows 8.1 in the BIOS. This Windows PID is 8.1 of Windows OEM specific and may not work with third-party recovery media unless it is an exact copy of the HP recovery for this exact model of HP media. There is no guarantee that any recovery of spare parts kit does not work correctly. I suggest the purchase of HP's HP recovery media factory. Please see DVD - 8.1 64 bit of Windows Recovery Kit / Kit for portable consumer (4 discs) system recovery for the purchase of this media.

  • Satellite L750-201 - problem with update of the BIOS - preparation for Win 8

I have a L750-201 and is eligible for Windows 8. Currently Windows 7.
I thought that I would update to the BIOS (latest version 2.6) in the latest version (3.6), which has some relevant changes to Windows 8, I understand.

I have downloaded the BIOS update file and run. I had several options. One of them was to make the update of Windows, and another was to create a boot CD to do at STARTUP.
I created the CD and rebooted the machine with it. Everything seemed fine, but when the time came to Flash the bios I got the message about the battery must be greater than 10% and the power adapter is connected. If the BIOS update has refused to start.

The problem is the battery was 100% or almost that I had just fully charged it. The power adapter is and powered. So whence the utility to update the BIOS get his info that the dough was less than 10%?
I saw similar posts from other people, but the problem was usually that the battery was in fact less than 10% and that it was not charging. This isn't the case here.

No matter, I thought, I can update the other sense through the windows.
So I started the machine and took the Windows Flash utility. The system gave me the warning usual as planned and then rebooted the machine. He went directly in windows with the "Welcome" splash screen, and then stopped a few moments, then went to a black screen with just the pointer in the middle. I assumed it was something like the fairly active enjoy car light. However, after an age, nothing was. I could go back to the login screen by pressing the power button / standby machine and then turning it back on. My user has been locked, but I could shut down the computer and restart normally. Nothing serious happened. The machine starts very well and Windows does not normally, but BIOS remains unchanged.

Anyone have any idea how to get the update of the BIOS to work? Seems I have to bypass the battery check or why BIOS thinks a battery of 100% is less than 10%.

  • access to the bios win 8

I just got my new lenovo G480, 4 GB RAM, 1 TB of HARD drive laptop GT635M VGA 2 GB pre-installed with windows 8. When I start my laptop, I don see an option for me access bios as previously in win7 we see press F2 to enter the BIOS on the bottom left of the display. and nothing happens also when I pressed F2 eventhough I tried holding button B on the opening upward. If anyone here knows what to do? help is sincerely appreciated

The cause is that when you turn off your laptop using normal shutdown, windows is not really turn it off, but he puts in a State of hibernation, is a so-called 'hybrid stop' he invented to win sppedup start and your bios does not allow to y to enter after hibernation (again, to fix the boot). So you can disable hybrid shutdown (it's easy to find how do), or use a windows reboot and you will be able to get into bios after (but only once, I mean, you will be able to enter the bios EXACTLY after restart windows).

  • find, "with the cd on the bios boot < on apple PC with win xp.

Password lost on cp family.  We do not find the boot from cd on the biops. It's a PC with win xp apple

    Hi haouatim,

There is nothing indicating 'Boot from cd' in the bios. You will need to arrange the priority of disc to create your CD / DVD Drive as the first boot device.

Leave the Windows XP cd in the drive and restart your computer. It will then display you the option «press any key to boot from CD...» ", and then you must press a key or the Enter key.

    Reference: http://www.ehow.com/how_6196502_set-bios-boot-cd-vista.html

You will need to save your own installation of important data of the operating system that result formatting will destroy all your data from the partition of the said.

    I hope this helps.

  • Don't Win 7, no logon, safe mode or the bios

I have a Lenova PC with Win 7 pro installed. Yesterday, there was an automatic update. I can't login, run safe mode, or enter the bios. I did NOT forget my password to login and read the forums for about four hours now, trying every suggestion without success. Everything seems to want the password. for example. Run the command. Other ideas would be appreciated. At this point I don't care even to do a full format and reinstall. I need the bios to boot from cd or usb, however. I have saved on both os.

It is a Lenovo desktop/Tower computer?

You have a Windows 7 installation DVD or a "system repair disc" (this is something would have created you, not a disc provided by Lenovo) by chance?

I think that by using a wired keyboard allows you to enter in Safe Mode and the configuration of the BIOS utility.  Once in safe mode, you should be able to use the system to go back before the updates restore corrupted your profile.  If this does not work, you will probably need a Windows 7 installation DVD or a "system repair disc.  If you don't have one of those, there are methods to move forward, but Microsoft's policy forbids us to give such advice.

  • Win 7 OS linked to the bios of the motherboard can it be changed?

A few weeks ago, I bought a new laptop Presario CQ 57 339 of WM.   It came with Windows 7 installed, of course.  I tried to get used to this OS, but I can't stand, it makes me crazy.  I'm an experienced user, I had a PC since first they came out.  I formatted and partitioned... hard drives together, 9 yards but this is the first time that I ran into a situation where I can't remove an operating system and install another.  I bought... ... BOUGHT a new XP package to replace the OEM Win 7, but it is not allowing me to use it.  It seems to me now that the OS is related to the card motherboard/Bios, (that I didn't know when I bought the laptop), I can't change the operating system to one that I prefer, not Linux, not XP, not anything.  My question is this: this designation in the BIOS can be changed?  I can't take much more of my blood pressure rising on all issues with Win 7.  I really need to get rid of him, or to sell the laptop and buy a refurbished with XP installed.  Indeed, if the PC is on the disappearance, this must be one of the reasons - the forced control put on the buyer now when they buy a computer.  It's like buying a frying pan and then discover, you can only use one brand of eggs when you want to make your breakfast.

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi, married:

The reason why you have trouble to install XP is that XP is too old to have the new disk controller drivers preloaded, and on a consumer notebook, there is no setting in the BIOS to change the emulation to disk controller to a legacy (IDE) mode.

So, the lower upgrade guide is good, but you really need this first guide and read the section on Intel chipsets that will give you the advice you need to integrate the SATA AHCI controller drivers in a copy of your XP disc using nLite.

    http://h30434.www3.HP.com/T5/notebook-operating-systems-and/SATA-drivers-for-XP-solution-on-0x0000007B-BSOD/TD-p/114120

Under the Intel section, use the first method on the wake all the drivers. Don't bother precisely tailored that you need for installation.

I attach the files that you must wake below.

I have a Hp Pavilion a1620n with a motherboard ASUS P5LP - THE using Phoenix Technologies Bios VER.3.16 and running Windows 7. I want to upgrade the processor and said that I have to upgrade the Bios before upgrading the processor. I have been researching but can't find any info on how to do it for this particular machine. There is no on-board Bios Flash program and I can't seem to find any information. Any ideas?

    AZ_scuba_dude, welcome to the forum.

There is no update software/BIOS for Win7 for the computer.  It is unlikely that there will be a developed.  However, there is a BIOS update for XP.  You will need to do a system restore to the original configuration that includes XP.  Once this operation is complete, you can update the BIOS to version: 3.19.  You can do the update using the executable file (sp35100.exe). Although she did not mention anything about what makes the upgrade of the processor.  Here are the Specifications of the motherboard of the computer.  In the processor upgrade information section, it lists the updates that supports HP.

Please let us know if this solved your problem or not.

  • update the BIOS with Win 7

Hello everyone, it has been a while. I had some problems with my SR5505F, I run Memtest + 86 on a barrette of RAM (2x2gb) both, but first wanted to check/upgrade the BIOS in case that was the problem, problem is, I upgraded the OS from Vista to Windows 7, and the BIOS for this model only offer the choice for Vista 32 and Vista 64 What should I do, my last update of the BIOS shows 2008. Thanks for any help.

    Yes, I wouldn't risk.

You can always make a system image to install W7 using W7 backup tool, reinstall Vista, Flash the BIOS and reinstall W7 from your image backup. You will need to do a W7 boot CD or use your installation disk of W7 and instead of the installation option, select repair your computer option at the bottom left of the installation screen.  Then select restore from an image system or what is the closest that verbage thing.

    No vista installation media?

You can do it yourself.  See below... beginning on page 289.

Well - I found the answer to the first question - how to enter in Bios in W10 - energy options that you must disable the quick start - then you enter BIOS just taking the F12 to power. Worked on my two Portégé.
