17 3200 envy: Envy 17 3200 screen flickers and dies. External monitor works. (Video included)

Hi, I bought my laptop about two years ago. A few days ago the screen suddenly dies, and at startup, it flashes several times with the correct display, but then turns off. The backlight seems to stay on. When I use an external monitor with HDMI port, the external monitor works fine, however, the laptop screen remains empty. Here's a video of what it looks like when I first boot the laptop: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmro4P1NmyY & feature = youtu.be , how can I do to fix this problem? Thanks, Wes

@Saichotic ,

Hello and thanks for the display on the HP support forum.  It is somewhat a problem when it comes to laptops that comes up from time to time.

The reason is there is a cable connected to the motherboard that goes back through the hinge area and connects to an inverter that powers the monitor.

Once the cable wears out, but more often just to move General around get you a loos to the inverter or the motherboard connection.

Here is a link to your Maintenance and service guide. You can use this to help pull the cable and inspect the connections.

Here is a video that will show you how essentially happen to things as well to test and check the cable.

Now, if it of a little too difficult to manage, and believe me it took me a couple years before that I liked working on laptops is not a problem.  Contact HP support by phone for repair options.

  • White laptop of Lenovo Windows 7 screen... .external monitor works

Don't know if I should ask this here... but... I have a laptop lenovo of 64-bit WIndows 7. Suddenly two weeks, the screen went black... It was working fine until I barely touched to adjust the angle and the screen went away. At startup, I very very VERY vaguely see the Thinkpad logo then nothing. Took it to the repair shop, first of all, they thought it was a problem of backlight, but a new screen OEM does not solve the problem. Now, they say it's probably the motherboard.  New MB costs as much as the computer (it is obviously OQ). It works fine with an external monitor, tho which kind of defeated the purpose of the laptop. Want to just an opinion... is this really very likely the MB or is it something else? Thanks for any info.

    Hello

You need check the connection between the screen and the motherboard. The connection could have been disconnected with you have changed the angle of the screen. There are tutorials on youtube on how to do it.

  • Satellite A100-999 - screen flickers and goes black

Hi, I have a problem with my Satellite A100-999.

The screen flickers and then goes black. The works still laptop as I can connect to external monitors, but the laptop monitor are almost entirely black. It's happened before, but a reboot seemed to solve, however, Noah, as soon as the sign of the intel appears at startup, the screen turns off. It is not completely black - you can see the contours of some things on the screen, but it is almost completely black.

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi xiuxiuejar_1,

HM, if you can still see a picture on the laptop external monitor should be ok and it must be a problem with built-in LCD screen.

Usually, if the display is it black malfunction in UPS s FL which controls the backlight of the screen, but if the screen flickers, it s the internal LCD display itself

I guess that your laptop is not under warranty more so I would try exchanging the FL inverter it's a lot cheaper. You can order this FL inverter of an ASP or eBay but is not so easy to replace, because you have to disassemble the laptop monitor.

    Hi P.K.

The information and links have been informative and educational and I'll save that for a later use. However, the graphics card was the problem (I discovered) so I'm upgrading and also I move FSX on my new pc (a pc gamer VELOCITY) and it works perfectly. Thanks again for your contribution.

  • (Laptop HP-2000) White screen, external monitor works.

(HP 2000 Notebook PC / Windows 8.1, 64-bit) Still white screen, external monitor works fine. What components could be defective? This occurred about six months ago about a week after the expiry of the one year warranty. Nonfortuitous.

    Hello

You confirm this problem is intermittent, and now its working fine, it means that the question would be the display cable. The display cable is loose. Issue can be fixed by rebonding the display cable, if the problem persists then the display cable needs to be replaced.

This is the only reason why I asked you in the previous post if the problem was intermittent or display changed while moving the display cover.

This particular problem has nothing to do with the temperature.

    Kind regards

  • Satellite M30X-111 screen does not display anything but the external monitor works

My laptop just screen does not display anything (like when the computer is turned off), but when I connect the external monitor, then the desktop is displayed on this screen. I tried to recover the laptop using the recovery disk and it worked again, but today, it stopped working again.

Again, I must plug the external monitor, and after I tried to restart, I continue to pressing F8 but the startup mode is not come, the noise of when you press a button for too long beeps, however, the monitor of the laptop working again.

How can I solve this problem?

What do you do? You want to recover the laptop?
If Yes, you n press any F8 but you will need to boot from the recovery CD by pressing the C key immediately after starting the laptop.

But this question seems that you have accidentally switched to external display.
I recommend checking the Fn + F5 option. This combination allow you to switch between the display and the external monitor.

  • Bubbles screen saver and angry birds stopped work unsupported opengl2

Bubbles screen saver and angry birds stopped work unsupported opengl2. I've updated my vidieo driver. I use a NVIDIA GForce 8400 GS. Everything worked when I close the screensaver computer downstairs but when restarted and AB does not?

    Hi Ranmorg,

    Thanks for choosing Microsoft Community!

If I understand correctly, you have problems playing angry birds and changing the screensaver on a Windows Vista-based computer.

Method 1: Let us try the following steps:

    a. open the screen resolution by clicking on the Start button, click Control Panel and then, under appearance and personalization, select adjust screen resolution.

    b. click on advanced settings, select troubleshooting and then click on change settings.

    c. move hardware acceleration up to activate the video hardware acceleration.

    d. click OK and then click Restart now.

Method 2: Uninstall and reinstall the video card drivers and see if this is useful:

    See the following steps:

    (a) click Start, right click on computer.

    (b) click on properties, click on Device Manager

    (c) expand the graphics card, right click on the adapter option

    (d) click on uninstall

    (e) now go to your computer/device manufacturer site, download the updated drivers and install them.

Hope the helps of information. Don't answer if you need assistance, we will be happy to help you.

  • External screen flickers and snowy with El Capitan

I have an intermittent problem on a new LG Display.

LG Display 27MP58 27 "connected to the Macbook Air 11' with El Capitan (10.11.4) flickers and the picture goes snowy. This happens about 10% of the time.

So to determine if it was the connection, the display or the computer I plugged in the screen of a Macbook Air with Yosemite and it was very stable. This convinced me that el Capitan is the culprit.

Given that I'm reluctant to downgrade the OS to Yosemite, is there another fix for flickering with El Capitan.

    Thank you

    Hello senorbill2000,

I understand that you have a problem with an external display connected to your MacBook Air. Have you considered as reinstall OS X Yosemite, but want to discover some additional troubleshooting options before you go down this path. I can help you with that.

At any time you have problems with the display, I always begin with ensure the connection between the two. Start by reseating the cable and also check that your Mac is up-to-date with it's software. Another thing to try is to reset the SMC and the NVRAM. Take a look at the article below and it will be presented in more detail on what to do when you encounter problems with your external monitor.

  • Satellite P300D - screen flickers and the battery is unstable

I bought the new Satellite P300d-h-13, I liked a lot, but from the first day I have problems with it.

    1. when on battery, the screen flickers - it will clear less brilliant, just like I'm shaking the laptop (I'm not :))
    2. battery is not stable: when I use the battery indication of remaining time power is going from little or a lot, I mean for example on 90 percent, it says 59 minutes and on 60 it says 1 hour and something when he is on 50 say 30 minutes and when it is at 25 percent It says 25 minutes then to 23 per cent arrives at 17 minutes.
I guess the problems are linked, but I don't know what to do. Contact service, or do I have to install any software?

    3. a third problem is a small white spot on the screen - it's about a pixel or at most 5 pxls and it is too bright. I guess that's a dead pixel (s) but I am not happy when a new laptop has this problem (s)

So if anyone can give me some advice I would appreciate it a lot.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hello Hio

Do you always use factory settings or you have installed your own operating system?
Have you noticed the number one and two on the first day?

What about dead pixel? I know it's not nice, but I wonder you didn't react immediately after the first or second day and try to talk with your dealer and ask for replacement. Please check follow documents on dead pixel:

  • Loss of WiFi connection and screen flickering on T440p (external)

It is a brand new TP T440p and I installed a new copy of Windows Pro 8.1 on it (fired). I applied all the updates of Windows and installed all updates of drivers/BIOS Lenovo system update.

The computer works fine, but when I put it to sleep and wake it back up, the external monitor is almost always flickering (there is a movement of 1 mm left and right, line by line - I'll shoot a video, if the camera is capable of capturing the movement, because it is very "thin"). Sometimes it stops after a few minutes, but most of the time that I need to re - start the computer.

In addition, not always, but several times WiFi connection is lost and I cannot reconnect unless I restart the computer.

It is a BIG productivity killer so I would appreciate help from anyone who knows what could be wrong. Thank you.

Here are my characteristics of system in detail, if it helps:

EDIT: here's a video of the flashing screen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zV38PC_a0l4

Change the 720 p video and capture full screen in the view of the anomaliy. Thank you.

I solved all problems by installing the latest drivers from Intel (graphics & WiFI) and Nvidia.

All I can say is - use not the Lenovo provided drivers. After you have installed Windows 8.1, just run all the updates and search the latest drivers manually. Drivers Lenovo just foires my computer. Guys not happy.

  • Satellite M70 - screen flickers and goes black, white or other

I have a portable Satellite M70 and lately the screen becomes either black, white and a few other colors (no ghost image).

The laptop seems good but I can t see anything so the only solution is to turn on and off. He didn't used to do this.
I have updated the BIOS and the driver of the screen but always comes back.

    Any suggestions?

Have you tried an external monitor on the laptop?
It would be important to make sure if it s a display or the motherboard problem.
    Check it!

Have what driver you installed for the laptop? You must use the driver from the Web from Toshiba site.

    Good luck!

  • Portege R600-13Z - flickering picture on external monitor

    Hi support them!

I own an ASUS VW224 VGA monitor and a Portege R600 13Z. Is the native resolution of 1680 x 1050 and directly on VGA cable (do not know if there is a docking station). GPU driver date is 31.03.2010 version 8.15.10.2104 (newest I think).

The problem is that the screen is blinking. The darker the area displayed the strongest flicker is perceived. It's a "horizontal flicker", like the horizontal lines are pursuing each other up and down the screen. It is very annoying.

Since the laptop screen itself or the monitor with another computer ASUS show any flickers, I think that the problem is rooted in the described configuration interaction. I can set different settings on the monitor itself. Related to the problem could be 50 and 54 of Phase clock.

Windows tells me in config monitor refresh rate is 60. However, refresh rates and clock can be set to the same without change.

The meaning of phase I don't know.
Any ideas to solve the problem?

    See you soon!

I think that it comes to the grounding of s.
Please check if the flicker would be available using the battery power.

I've been reading about such symptoms on external monitors.
In most cases the use of the power supply cable 3 cord would solve this problem.

  • External monitor works but integrated screen is not

    Hello

I have a model of Macbook Pro 13 of the retina (mid-2013) .

A few months back the display has stopped working, but when I hooked to an external monitor everything worked as expected except the screen of course.

I took it to the service center and a descent computer repair shop and they both said that display connection with the logic board is fried and they need to fix the logic board that retina display is fine.

The price they are quoting is about $ 900, which is not fair.

The logic card cannot be repaired?

anyone else in a similar situation?

If all the otherwise failed I think I'll delete the entire display of macbook. Someone knows how to do this?

    Thank you!

    Welcome to the CSA!

Because of the tiny parts and connections on a logic board, repair is usually not an option. I don't say it can't be done, but it's hard to find someone who can / will work on resolder delicate bits on a LB (redistribution) without making a mess of labor law.

You live in the United States? If so, ask about a "repair." Instead of working on the computer in the Apple Store, they send to Apple rehabilitation center where they pretty much fix everything what they find wrong inside (with the exception of the display unit itself) for a flat rate that is much lower than the cost that you quoted for repair in the store. I believe that the current price for this service is approximately US$ 315.

The only downside I see is that the repair takes about a week, largely during the transportation to and from the depot.

If you are not in the United States, ask anyway. I don't know what Apple has implemented for this kind of repair outside the United States.
