32GB PCI-E SSD Drive Alienware M18X R2 hard

Is it possible to update this internal hard drive to a larger? 7C4P7 Solid State Drive, 32, S3, FULL, MCARD, PM830 is this just for the windows operating system? I've added another hard drive to my RAID 0 system and it shows as 960 Gig, but I have 3,500 as GIG discs inside. Windows 7 64 bit has a limitation or is the computer which is not allowing all show?

I'll answer my own question on that. Yes, it is possible to upgrade the drive internal mSata for greater. I bought one with a transfer disc which worked perfectly. It is a cache drive. I use it now as the program startup disk and windows system. It may contain larger, but I put in a concert of 256 just because I wanted to only use for windows and basic programs. It only supports 3 G/S. Acronis Disk director suite is what I used for all transfer from one disk to the other programs. It has worked flawlessly. After the transfer, I had to go to the Bios and make sure you that he has been installed as the cable near the memory had loosened or was never properly installed at the factory, that's why it was appearing once again not in the bios, and retouch, remove the back and track area of chip memory, make sure just the wire is broken inside and make the transfer with Acronis. Regarding the Raid 0 configuration. I discovered the hard way, do not attempt to remove a raid Array Disk 0. It erases everything, however, I am not dissatisfied with removing the RAID 0 I am more interested in speed if I lose programs if something happens. I use my computer for gaming and I installed all SSDS to replace those mechanical and they are so much faster, that's amazing. Do good backups and the Acronis has great software backup disk to copy what you want on a different drive, if you are concerned about the loss of information. It's also like a 'TRIM' for the SSD which will clean up unused or wasted on your SSD space and let it run longer. Passage to the SSD and the drive for greater internal capacity mSata was definitely the best thing I've done with this computer so far.

It is indeed an mSATA 80G drive - however, it is probably dedicated to start fast, and part of it is defined as a cache for the main hard drive.  The partition that is left is the one you see.  If you want to install Windows on it, you will have to disable the cache function and repartition the disk SSD for WIndows (and 80G will no doubt limit that you can install - although it will help you get started, it will be not difficult to outperform a WIndows 80 G drive).

  • ThinkStation S30 + question Plextor PX - AG512M6e PCI Express SSD

We try to do the Plextor P6e working with S30 as boot drive. For now - no luck. Playing with different settings of BIOS S30 - not made no difference. This PCI Express SSD drive is bootable, without driver, with a clean ROM with AHCI implemented. Logo of ROM shows same at startup. However, it seems that S30 does not know what to do with it. SSD itself supports UEFI boot and legacy.

If the Windows installation (7) is started from DVD, he sees SSDS as 'disc', but it cannot be partiitioned and there is a message, windows cannot be installed on it, since it cannot be boot drive. We have cloned the SSD HARD drive Windows installation; S30 doesn't recognize it, then will not start.

    Can anyone help?

P.S., Plextor itself is not a problem, works well with many other computers, even with Lenovo M91p...

    Quick update:

-Win 7 installation inherited / boot - NO GO

-Win 7 UEFI install / boot - finally working with some really weird BIOS settings: all parameters must be UEFI, only video OpROM must have the value of legacy... If it is defined in UEFI, Win 7 starts, but display is frozen at "start windows". Also, he needed a few reboots it got finally work without errors...

  • Location of the Alienware 17 SSD drive?

I own an Alienware 17 that I bought in January this year.  It came with an SSD of 256 MB.  That I found woefully inadequate for my purposes.  I'm at the clean temporary files every day so that I do not fill the drive.  I bought a new 1 TB Samsung SATA III SSD, but I can't find where the current SSD is installed.  There are two ports for HDD1 and HDD2 which are easily accessible.  I've added two 1 TB drives to these two, but I have no idea where the SSD is without tearing the laptop all out to find.  I watched the reference owners manual and there IS NO remove OR replace the SSD drive?

    Thank you

The only left port is the mSATA located under the palm rest.

  • Best external SSD drive?

Looking for a new external SSD drive. What are some of the best out there for the money?  Really need 1 TB or more.

    Thank you!

The fastest and most effective will be a PCIe SSD installed in an enclosed.  Understand that serves as an external SSD, speed may be limited by the connection in use and you can not achieve the performance that the SSD is capable of.  The fastest connection to date is Thunderbolt2, which may or may not be fast enough (I just don't know).

  • Replace merge with ssd drive, cannot be done?

My hard drive of my iMac 27 ", end 2012, is running out. It has a fusion of 1 TB drive.

I asked the service guy how much it would cost to replace the 1 TB with a 512 GB SSD drive.

He said that one cannot do. He claims that the only thing that can be installed is a 'disk original Apple', given that she is a fusion player, he has several sensors that a regular disk or an ssd, does not.

Is this true? I thought drive merger was only a software technology "pair" a small disc with an older hard drive ssd.

Of course, it is possible, but understand that the HARD drive in the computer has a special sensor used for the detection of the temperature and the fan control. In addition, what you ask is probably not an Apple authorized the change. A Fusion drive uses the features of Mac OS X CoreStorage to create the Fusion drive and manage. However, in itself a Fusion drive does not require any special equipment unless one you have used flash PCI-e instead of a real SSD memory.

If your computer is no longer under warranty and complete loss of any future Apple support doesn't bother you, then you can make the change yourself.

  • Device PCI T410 without driver

    Hello

I just did a clean install of Windows XP 32 bit on my T410 and after installing all the drivers from the Lenovo Web site, I find myself with a PCI device without driver. I get a pop up window, whenever I connect. The device id is 3B2F, which, according to pcidatabase.com is a 6 Port SATA AHCI Intel Mobile. I installed quick storage drivers and drivers from the chipset and can't find anything about this or else that seemed relevant in the list of drivers, so I'm stumped.

I was unable to install Daemon Tools Lite, and I think that this might be related. It fails when it tries to install the SCSI adapter. I believe that the PCI device was there before I tried to install Daemon Tools, and it comes back if I try to uninstall in Device Manager, so I don't think it's a remnant of the failure of Daemon Tools install.

Does anyone have an idea how to solve this problem?

    Thank you.

    Hi Jerome,

This device is the "Intel (r) 5 Series 6 Port SATA AHCI Controller' that the name should be in Device Manager.

This should be the correct driver of Lenovo:

    http://www-307.IBM.com/PC/support/site.WSS/document.do?sitestyle=Lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-74431

It should also work fine by downloading the Intel driver which is a newer version.

You said that you have installed Rapid Storage, but have you downloaded the driver from Lenovo and are sure that you have actually installed? If you download the driver of Lenovo using the link above and run the "6mim25ww.exe" file it will be unpacked to 'C:\DRIVERS\WIN\IRST', but it will NOT be installed. After uncompressed you can go into the Device Manager and double click on the device, then click on 'Update driver' and select 'Browse my computer... ". "and then type the path 'C:\DRIVERS\WIN\IRST '.

Another option would be to download the latest Intel's RST and simply run the installation so a little easier than the driver of Lenovo. If you got an SSD that trim the Intel driver support is a better option, because the driver of Lenovo doesn't support trim. The RST 9.6 or more recent support of trim. If you use a HARD disk, you must cut anyway.

  • Why no SSD Drives

Am I missing it or can someone tell me why Dell does not offer SSDS with their systems?

Problems with SSDS are not necessarily related to reliability, which is at least as good as for the SSDS AND from the renowned manufacturer.

    Some things to consider:

1 SSD costs more per gigabyte of hard drives, and many systems sell - especially for consumers - from prices more than anything.

    2. Unlike in the past, the systems are not custom - they are stored after being built and delivered by Taiwanese ODM China and the Mexico.  They lose the value from the moment wherever they are assembled - all manufacturers of walk the tightrope between the food and duty strongly recovered from the models that do not sell.

    3. very few buyers of machines home will go for 512 G or 1 t SSDs due cost - they can add $200-300 or more to the cost of a system.

4 the SSD market is currently the Wild West that the hard drives were 25-30 years ago - there are far too many manufacturers and technology is constantly changing.  See #2 - which is common in September 2016 will be obsolete in March 2017.  SATA SSD are on their way quickly - PCIe (NVMe) SSD are on the way.

  • Run Windows 10 from an external SSD drive? Yes, it works!

That's what I did to make it work. The whole process takes about 45 minutes, but I think that it really is worth it if you want to run quick and clean Windows 10 on your iMac.

    What you need:

    • An SSD external - data is deleted
    • An iMac 27 "(end of 2013 in my case)

Temporarily, for the installation, you will also need:

    • A computer with Windows 7, 8 or 10 to copy the correct files on the SSD drive and make it bootable
    • A computer running with OS X download BootCamp
    • A USB - data is erased

First, in Windows, you get a file ISO for Windows 10. You can use the media to https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10 authoring tool and choose to save it as ISO file (do not create a USB bootable media).

    1. Double-click on the. ISO file. This will mount the disk to install on a disk (in my case, the letter E).
    2. Connect the SSD drive to a free USB port
    3. Open an administrator command prompt and type:
      1. DiskPart
      2. list disk (to identify your external SSD drive number)
      3. select disk 2 (or another number to your external SSD drive, make sure you do not erase your internal drive, usually on 0).
      4. clean - be careful, if you have selected the wrong disc, erase all the data on it
      5. create part pri
      6. Quick format
      7. assign letter = O (or another letter if already used)
      8. assets
      9. output
      10. DISM/apply-image /imagefile:"E:\sources\install.esd" / index: 1 /ApplyDir:Y:------(change E to another letter for the ISO file mounted)
      11. BCDBOOT. EXE Y:\WINDOWS/s Y:/f BIOS (so that the boot in the BIOS only drive (not EFI))
      12. output
      13. Eject all disks properly or simply shut down your PC.

Then on your Mac, open the wizard BootCamp (click on Launchpad and type "bootcamp" to find) and check ONLY "download the latest software of Apple's Windows support. Save it on your USB thumb drive. Stop your iMac. Remove the USB key and keep it in your hand.

Turn on your iMac by pressing the option (alt) key. You will see an orange icon with Windows. Select this option and wait until you see 'Getting ready devices', wait a little longer until you hear the startup chime and press the option (alt) key to make sure that start you on the external hard drive. That's all!

Now you have a copy of Windows from your external USB drive. You just need to install the BootCamp drivers on your USB (\Bootcamp\Setup.exe). Reset.

Oh, you have 10 Windows running natively on your beautiful iMac.

    Enjoy!

The answer is in the response. I don't know how to post a tip!

  • Installation internal SSD drive and storage of documents on external hard drive

    Hello!

I have an older iMac and I want to speed it up by installing a SSD drive.  Currently, my internal hard drive has 2 TB of storage, and I don't want to pay for one SSD of this size.  I consider the use of an external drive for my files and using the SSD internal applications and the operating system.  Can this work?  What is the internal SSD of minimum size I should get, more or less, according to my number of apps?   The documents will open at a decent speed?   It is up to me to use an external hard drive with a Firewire instead of USB connection?  Thank you!

    Hi Dan:

Apps it really depends how much you use and what types of data you want to keep in vs SSD HARD drive.

120-128 GB SSD: USD price: 60-70 price range.

for 250/256 GB SSD: about USD: price range of 80-90

for 500/512 GB SSD: about USD: price range of 130-150

An external 2 TB drive: for laptop (USB bus-powered - usually 2.5 "HDD included): 90 us $, for the largest 3.5" Office style HDD: 90 USD

    For me:

I store all my music on the external network drive (RAID 1 configuration, 2 TB, and 50 percent full this time), all my documents/pictures are still in my 500 GB SSD.

I don't have much video projects on my SSD.

I used about 200 GB in my internal SSD flash drive

Good luck finding your best solution.

  • Wizard BootCamp 6.0.1 running on El Capitan 10.11.5 installs single partition BootCamp on the disc Fusion consisting of 128 SSD part G SSD and 3 TB of HARD drive on an iMac (retina 5K, 27 inches, end of 2014), but not the part of the HARD drive?

How is it assistant BootCamp 6.0.1 running on El Capitan 10.11.5 installs single partition BootCamp on the disc Fusion consisting of 128 SSD part G SSD and 3 TB of HARD drive on an iMac (retina 5K, 27 inches, end of 2014), but not the part of the HARD drive?

    This has two questions:

1 capacity of SSDS faster for Fusion drive has been reduced. Therefore less effective for the reader of the merger. For example if I need to create a partition of 80G for my windows bootcamp partition, only 48 G will be left in the drive of the merger.

    2. ability of the bootcamp windows partition becomes very limited, cannot be greater than 120 G.

    3. even when I try to fuse out of the drive of fusion in the 128 G SSD and 3 TB of HARD disk, and then run the BootCamp assistant to create the bootcamp partition start from scratch to reinstall El Capitan only on the HARD drive (without drive Fusion), it won't let me do anything, it just shows an error that says something like "a person has created additional partitions on this drive please select. another disc. But there is nothing else to choose.

Before my (5 K, 27 inches, end of 2014 retina) to El Capitan Yosemite, I was able to use the previous version of the wizard BootCamp 5.x to create the partition, bootcamp on the drive of the merger. And it will be divided in the fuser unit in two and insert the Bootcamp partition (with the size I chose, which can go up to 1 TB) between two partitions of MAC OSX.

The disk partitions resulting from it, will be the partition MAC OS x on the SSD, the partition MAC OS x on the HARD drive partition #1, partition MAC OS x on the HARD drive partition #3.

Then there is the BootCamp partition on the HARD drive partition #2.

Is there a way to get what I need?

That is what has been described in this notice of two canoes?

    Thank you.

After having worked on those weeks, I realized that I need very painfully (by first going back to Yosemite and bootcamp 5 to escape all the limitations of El Capitan and BootCamp 6) I want to share here. Someone at - it other smarter solutions welcome.

Note these steps and mentioned drivers only work for my version of iMAC, retina 5K late 2014. If you have other material, please search on the web to see which driver will work first. And all of these steps are destructive and assumed that you first take backup. It is only shared for interest only. Readers will have to bear your own risk.

    A. take backup

    1. take a backup completes my iMac Fusion Drive using Time Machine. Then restart with a Yosemite USB installation and select Terminal from the menu on the top bar.

    B. fuse out of the merger in two physical disks drive: SSD + HDD

    1. in the terminal, type the commands in show what the logical volume group ID and the ID of the logical Volume of the disc fusion)

    Cs diskutil list

    2. in the terminal, type commands for the fuse of the fuser unit and separate them to an SSD and a HARD drive.  Note: All data will be destroyed in the drive of the merger. There are many articles in this community on how this could be done,

diskutil cs deleteVolume Logical Volume ID

CS diskutil remove logical Volume Group ID

This should finish within 30 minutes. If you have taken more time, this means that your reader of fusion has been altered somehow.

I hit this issue too.  To use this command to remove the fusion drive hung up, and I need to do the hard to scramble a few sections of data in the hard disk partition table using the controls to tell the OSX this hard drive is a new without partitions:

    Cat >/dev/random /dev/disk0 (where/dev/disk0 is the SSD)

and repeat for disk1/dev/disk1 which is the HARD drive in my case).

This command will not return anything, but expect to press Ctrl-Z to end after 1 minute.

2 create independent partitions (non-fusionend) for the installation of OSX.

Borne Terminal output, and select disk utility, in disk utility, select the drive to HARD disk (and not on the partition), you will see the error message and you will be asked if you want to fix the fuser unit, click on ignore. Then wipe the HARD drive to create a single 'extended OSX journaled"named"HARD drive".

    3. Repeat step 2, and then erase the SSD drive to create a single 'extended OSX journaled"named"SSD ".

    C. install on the HARD disk as drive didier autonomous not fusion.

    1. go to Yosemite install screen and proceed with the installation of a clean copy of Yosemite to the iMAC. then connect you.

    D. use BootCamp Yosemite f5 to install windows.

    1. launch Yosemite bootcamp.

    2. check the two checkboxes for creating the USB drive to install windows 7 or a later version, and to download the windows supports the Apple software.  Do not click on the last box to install or remove windows pie creating real bootcamp partition again.

    3. it may take several hours to complete this function of your internet b/w and also performance of your USB drive.

    4. If you install Windows 7 (like me), then the downloaded drivers will not work for you, this will cause the issue of the device driver appleDSS.sys does not like this driver and others are too recent for windows 7 to use.  Also, your keyboard and mouse may not work even if you try to plug in a USB external keyboard or a mouse. You need to replace the drivers downloaded by others (the Boot Camp 5.1.5769 drivers that I find in this link: Software Support of Boot Camp 5.1.5769.) (Note: this driver is material specific only works for my iMAC model).  Once you have downloaded it, copy the two files in the root directory of the USB installation to replace the original ones. It's specific and material available for download somewhere on the Apple Site.

-From the Finder, delete the $WinPE$ and the Boot Camp of the FLASH PLAYER files.

-Expand the old drivers for Boot Camp 5.1.5769 (two records and another file) on your desktop.

-Copy the $WinPE$ and records of Boot Camp in the FLASH PLAYER.

    5. open Boot Camp Assistant again and only select the third option, install Windows 7.

It will show you the screen to select what installation disk, select HARD drive.

Then drag the slide bar to select the size of the Bootcamp partition for windows you want, knowing that there is a restriction for windows installed using training camp on a MAC that the last byte of the BootCamp partition must reside in the first byte of the 2.2 T of each physical hard drive.

For my case, I need only 500G for bootcamp and leaving behind 1.7 to for my MAC OSX partition immediately after the bootcamp partition and an another 0.8 T MAC OSX partition after him. 1.7 TB and the partition of MAC OS x 0.8 TB well exploited in the meantime bootcamp partition, will be merged into a fusion drive by Bootcamp. Thus, you will end up with total 2.5 TB of disk space in a logical drive - fuser.

Go to this link for more details on this subject: n-on-a-3-tb-fusion-drive http://twocanoes.com/winclone/support/installing-windows-on-a-boot-camp-partitio

    6. continue the process to partition the hard drive, then it will restart automatically in windows installation mode, install windows.

    7. once the installation is complete, check that windows is functioning correctly.

    E. Si you want to upgrade to windows 10 Windows 7.

1 if you plan to upgrade to windows 10, you'll find that the windows IE v.8 7 is no longer works and had many problems to load the page.  Then when you try to download the latest version of Internet Explorer, you get an error that you need at least windows 7 SP1 to support the last IE.  Life is too complicated, just download the google Chrome browser, then search for download windows 10 and then run the Microsoft valuation tool to upgrade.

2 but before upgrade you, unplug all your MAC USB drives, otherwise, you will find that, after having spent an hour downloading the windows 10 software, the upgrade will fail with the error "/ dynamicupdate...» ». It is an inexplicable mistake that no one seems to understand why. There are articles with proven results that the removal of all USB drives before running the windows 10 upgrade tool will correct this problem.

    F. reinstall OSX El Capitan

Once your target windows system (if windows 7, windows 8 or windows 10) works very well.  You can continue to create again your Fusion drive and reinstall OSX El Capitan.

    1. Insert the install of OSX Yosemite rear USB to the iMAC, and then select Restart Windows, or stop, and then turn the MAC once again.

    2. When you hear the ringing tone, press on and hold down the option key for 10 seconds. Then you release.

    3. on the selection screen, select start Yosemite OSX install drive.

    4. after starting, do not proceed to install OSX El Capitan again. But select Terminal from the menu bar.

    5. in the terminal, type the command 'diskutil list cs' and you should see nothing to prove that there are no existing fusion drive yet.

6 type the 'diskutil list' command to list all disks and partitions.

The SSD has two partitions, the/dev/disk0s1 of EFI (209 MB) partition and the other/dev/disk0s2 of OSX partition we created in step B above, called SSD around 121 G.

The HARD drive has two partitions, the/dev/disk1s1 of EFI (209 MB) partition and the other/dev/disk1s2 of OSX partition we created in step B above, called SSD.

    G. delete the logical storage of nucleus on the HARD disk drive and it refuses with the DSS to form a merger with faster performance disc

    1. Insert the install of OSX El Capitan rear USB to the iMAC, and then select Restart Windows, or stop, and then turn the MAC once again.

    2. When you hear the ringing tone, press on and hold down the option key for 10 seconds. Then you release.

    3. on the selection screen, select start Yosemite OSX install drive.

    4. after starting, do not proceed to install OSX El Capitan again. But select Terminal from the menu bar.

    5. in the terminal, type orders for (to show what are the logical volume group ID and the ID of the logical Volume of the logical drive). You should see the logical volume to basic storage group created using two partitions on the hard drive, 1.7 TB and TB 0.8 created when we run the Yosemite Bootcamp to install windows.

    Cs diskutil list

    6. in the terminal, type commands to delete logical drives from basic storage.  Note: All data will be destroyed in the logical drive.

diskutil cs deleteVolume Logical Volume ID

CS diskutil remove logical Volume Group ID

    7. tap "diskutil list" command lists all the resulting partitions. You should see that the HARD drive has the following partitions.

    / dev/disk0 (internal, physical):

    #: NAME SIZE TYPE IDENTIFIER

    0: GUID_partition_scheme * GB 121,3 disk0

    1: disk0s1 EFI EFI 209.7 MB

    2: Apple_HFS GB SSD 121.0 disk0s2

    / dev/disk1 (internal, physical):

    #: NAME SIZE TYPE IDENTIFIER

    0: GUID_partition_scheme * 3.0 to disk1

    1: EFI EFI 209.7 MB disk1s1

    2: Apple_HFS 1.7 Untitled TB disk1s2

    3: disk1s3 Apple_Boot Recovery 650.0 MB HD

    4: Microsoft database BOOTCAMP 503.0 GB disk1s4

    5: Apple_HFS 801,4 Untitled GB disk1s5

8 type the following commands to create the logical volumes group, named "myLVG" (or the name) of fuser using the usable for OSX to the SSD and HDD partitions.

diskutil cs to create "myLVG" disk0s2 disk1s2 disk1s5

Note: Mark the group id of logical volume shown in the results.

In my case, I want to book the last partition as standalone partition disk1s5 no-fusionend, so I can use it to raise the back, or format it in FAT32 to allow the exchange of data between the MAC and boot camp.

So, I do not understand this last partition in the drive of the merger. in my case, the command that I used is: diskutil cs to create "myLVG" disk0s2 disk1s2

9 create logical volumes named "Macintosh HD" (or you call it) on the logical volume group we just created for the reader of the merger.

diskutil createvolume logical volume group ID jhfs cs + 'Macintosh HD' 100%

10 command "diskutil cs type list" to check the resulting fusion drive created.

  • How to move iTunes to support SSD drive on secondary disk files

    Hello

I think the title pretty much everything said. My SSD drive app fills and although I have three drives in my desktop Mac PRO somehow the artwork & mobile apps are like 20 gigs. The music files are in a secondary drive. What is the best way to move all the files to support the HUGE secondary disk so I don't understand all of a sudden the dreaded exclamation point?

    Thank you

    Enio

    10.11.4 running

In essence, you must keep the support files in the folder as the iTunes music files, then let iTunes knows where they are located.

It is better than the iTunes folder everything will be moved to the external drive, not just the music and media files. The link below is instructions on how to do it properly. You "partially" here, but you should still be able to follow them, to make the move.
