3480CT - WinME

Hi guys, Im new to this forum.

I recently took a CT of 3480 used, everything works fine. He was running winXP when I got it, but I decided to format for it and install a new copy of it.

usually for my labtop, I installed winME then proceeds to upgrade to Windows XP. This works very well for my office.

However, when I implement winME, I keep on thinking errors that the controller (Im guessing that it is the dock, 8 dock x dvdrom) has a child something and winMe 32bits only supports 16-bit. The system then stops.
I unplug the dock and winMe charge very well. But I can't access the dvdrom drive me, once I plugged into the dock, the computer freezes.

Any suggestions? Help, please!
I should not have formatted first :(

Thanks in advance

Hello

I'm not sure but I think that your laptop is just supported for W98SE, W2000 and WINNT. It is possible that it will be not easy to install WME. You can try to install with some drivers for W98SE, but I'm not sure that it can work properly. For W98SE, you can download "Multimedia Port Replicator IDE Driver". Have you installed something like this?

Do you have the recovery CD or "Tools & Utilities CD" for this laptop? In my opinion the best solution is to install OS supported by Toshiba.

Good bye

I have a Toshiba Portege 3480CT with an external media Port Replicator. I recently loaded Windows XP but do not have the DVD player software. Can someone tell me how to find the appropriate download?

    Hello

You can use the playback software DVD evry you can find on the market. It should not be used Toshiba one (WinDVD if you think about this one).

Google a bit and you will find a large number of them. My favorite is the Power DVD Deluxe software. InterVideo WinDVD is a part of the recovery under Win XP OS image, but you can download it from the net http://www.intervideo.com/jsp/Product_Download.jsp?p=WinDVD

  • Max on Portege 3480CT HARD drive capacity?

What is the hard drive of greater that I can install it on a 3480CT portege? can I write DVD with an external burner (USB 2.0)?

    Hello

You will be very happy if someone can give you specific info on the maximum capacity of the HARD drive for this model of laptop. This info can give you a few specialist upgrade for laptop, but I think that 20 or 30 GB maybe are no problem.

I use the external DVD burner too, but not ultra slim but desktop engraver special cardboard. I don t use USB. FireWire is much faster data transfer rates and I use the firewire port on my Satellite.

  • Wk2 will not detect the HDD on Portege 3480CT

Hi all, been tring this for 2 days now and I have no idea. I want to install win2k on 3480CT but the win2k installation does not detect the hard drive... It will detect WinXP, win98 detects...

I have the latest version of the bios, I start to think win2k is in need of a driver for the reader, but I'm not finding.

    Help...

As mentioned for install the W2k you n t need additional drivers.
I also recommend the HARD whole disk formatting and delete all partitions.

In addition, you must use an original CD of Microsoft W2k. I read on the net that some people wanted to use the copy of the CD W2k, but this CD is not bootable.

    Hello

I'm sure that the HARD drive is too big for this machine. Maybe your Portege works correctly with 20 GB but 100 GB, too. Sorry, but I think there is no way to make it work.

  • DRIVER WINME FOR A50 111

    Hi, Faustina

You're right about the Toshiba site, there is no drivers for WME because this model is not supported for WME. I really know why you want to install WME on this machine.

You can try to install the drivers of sites s manufacturer but there is no guarantee that it will work properly. Try it. You'll be maybe lucky. ;)

  • IBM travelstar external USB compatibility with Portege 3480CT

    Hello
I try to use an IBM & reg travelstar in a box external usb with my Portege 3480CT running Windows 2000 (with sp4). While the disc is recognized as plug-and-play on other computers running win2k and winXP, is not recognized on my Portege, which gives an error message suggests that the drivers are missing.

According to IBM/hitachi (which make the player), no drivers are needed and the drive should work as plug-and-play, recognized as a generic USB HDD. This happens all other computers I've tried.

Are their compatibility problems with this drive? Or are their special all the drivers necessary to recognize this configuration on the Portege?
    Thank you
    B

    Hello

AFAIK there is no driver required for external hard drives and they are recognized as plug-and-play. Your Portege is an old unit and there may be a problem with the USB ports. Have you checked the other USB devices?

It is also possible that there is not enough power, and in this case, it is recommended to connect the drive using USB hub with own power supply.

  • 3480CT: try to update BIOS fails

    Hello
I have a CT 3480 and wanted to update the BIOS, but only the FDD USB Toshiba drive. During the reboot with BIOS disk in, the drive starts perfectly, but indicates "non-system disk error" and will not perform the update.
Is FDD drive the culprit, or is there something that I'm not just doing?
    Concerning
    Martin

    Hello

I don't think it's a fault of FDD USB Toshiba player.
Can you tell me your procedure to upgrade the BIOS?
As far as I know, you must press F12 to Flash the BIOS.

It's a whole procedure to upgrade the BIOS for Portege 3480CT

1 extract the zip file containing the BIOS upgrade to a formatted floppy disk (please see note below regarding the type of disk to use).
    2. make sure that the laptop is plugged into the sector.
    3. turn off the laptop.
    4. turn on the laptop with the F12 key. Press and hold until a short beep can be heard.
    5. the message "ready for the update of the BIOS. Place the BIOS update floppy in the drive and press any key when you are ready to move forward"will appear.
    6. place the floppy disk containing the BIOS upgrade in the floppy drive and press a key. FDD access will begin.
    7. When prompted by the message: "Please push the RESET switch (or turn the AC OFF power off / WE) to restart" remove the disk and press the RESET switch (if available) or turn the system off and turn it on again to restart the laptop.

  • Portege 3480CT: Canoe DVD-> not present error message "No Disk".

I have a Portege 3480CT (Win 98) and PA3042E - MEDIA PORT REPLICATOR 1DST. Although the DVD playback software is installed and I can't read the DVD. I tried WINDVD, POWER DVD, both for WIN 98, nothing helps. Decoder DVD software WIN 98 is also installed. If a DVD is loaded, every piece of software will return the error: "there is no disk.

What should I do to play DVDs on my computer?

    Thank you in advance.

    Hello

Are you using an original DVD?
Maybe there's something wrong with the region code settings.
If you want to play s DVD with different region the reader couldn t code recognizes the Middle!

See also the parameter of drive letter in disk management.
It is a port replicator, and it seems that the CD/DVD drive letter is set dynamically

  • Cannot install W2K on Portege 3480CT

On eBay, I bought a Portege 3480CT use it as a good machine to create texts out of office. But now I can not install W2K on it.

    It has an external CD drive and does not install: w2k, Linux, W98 (original)... for my favorite W2K, it says: "could not find NTLDR" (w2k) and: "media entfernen - neustart: taste druecken;

There is no other boot device, no other disc in any location... the disc is my original one, the boot device is passed to 'boot from CD' - the system is used for W2K (there a sticker on the back, which gives me this information).

and now I'm at the point, I have no idea how to continue.

Is it possible to make it work again?
    Thanks in advance

    Hello

If a "NTLDR is missing" message that this indicates that the disk is not bootable.
Many times this is caused when the computer tries to boot from the CD-ROM or a diskette not bootable.
In this forum, many users wanted to install the W2K on this laptop.
First of all, you need a bootable disc.
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=7187&MessageID=24896

If you want to boot from the CD of Win98, you must first create a companion disk. See the page of the Toshiba driver for companion disk files.
